Plot Elements
V'teridix class warbird
- Romulan Treasure Fleets: During the 23rd century, the Romulan Star Empire employed fleets of V'teridix class warbirds and smaller birds-prey as "treasure fleets" that supplied Romulus and other imperial worlds with goods from across the empire and beyond. Perhaps due to the abundance of shipwrecks scattered across the Shoals, legends of lost Romulan treasure fleets in the area have been pursued by treasure hunters for over a century. To date, no evidence of these lost treasure fleets or their shipwrecks have been discovered, and Starfleet and the Federation Archaeology Council have maintained that there has never been a historical Romulan presence in the region.
- V'teridix class warbird: A type of warbird used by the Romulan Star Empire in the 23rd century. ((For the ship that inspired this class, click here.))
Mission Summary
- Synopsis: On the hunt for a legendary treasure fleet's supposed final resting place within the Shoals, smuggler and part-time adventurer Kallo Ver enlists the help of the USS Veritas crew in his quest while outrunning competing treasure seekers and those looking to collect on his debts.
Act 1
After blowing up his own ship to prevent anyone else from accessing his ship's database, Kallo reveals that he has found the location of a shipwrecked 23rd century Romulan warbird belonging to a lost Romulan treasure fleet. The Veritas is tasked to investigate. Meanwhile, the Orion Syndicate has sent their own agent to go after Kallo and secure the lost treasures for the Syndicate. Three teams are dispatched to the warbird, each with a different aspect of investigation.
- Team Mei'konda -- Explore the ship's cargo hold and find out just what "treasures" the Syndicate was so interested in.
- Team Walker -- Set up a small base of operations/campsite within the ship. Possible secondary objectives: Assess the state of the shipwreck, also clues about what happened to the ship to assist Team Delano.
- Commander Luna Walker
- Commander Blair
- Lt. Commander Core
- Lt. Tuk
- Team Delano -- Explore the ship's bridge and crew quarters. Look for any log entries or details about the ship's mission, or anything else that contained locations for the rest of the fleet.
Once the away teams return, they bring back a few different artifacts from the wreckage of the warbird called the IRW Pellecia. While each artifact they had was extremely useful, one artifact that was housed in a very large metal box has gone missing. The warbird was also described by Evan Delano as being the "final resting place of at least forty Remans and 89 Romulans."
Act 2
The scene opens on the surface of a Romulan colony, long abandoned. Some of the material used in the structures resemble that of the warbird, which confirms a Romulan presence in the Shoals at least 100 years prior. There is also a crashed vessel on the surface, where Captain Rahman and her team encounter Aniliza Tacir, the Orion Syndicate agent who made off with the artifact housed in the large box. Meanwhile, the engineering team back aboard the Veritas have uncovered that the box is composed of a metal called Reskariaehhrr, which is apparently a rare Romulan element. The only records of its existence were recovered from the logs of the Pellecia and indicate it was found only on the northern hemisphere of Romulus. Tacir attempts to provide a distraction for the Syndicate retrieval agents when the Veritas appears overehead to provide support.
Expedition Logs From IRW Pellecia
Expedition Commander’s Officer’s Log. [Stardate 227411.23]. Seventeen hours after entering the Shadows, Pellecia suffered an unexpected failure of its propulsion and the subspace cloak. Without the protection of the cloak, a subspace drag effect created by the dense tetryon fields caused sudden and rapid deceleration. Though inertial dampeners were able to compensate, several systems were damaged and three crew were killed by shifting cargo. Full damage report and the names of the deceased are attached. Let it be known that they died in service of the empire. |
IRW Pellecia. Expedition Commander’s Log. [Stardate 227411.26]. It’s been two days since the loss of the Raze and Sulvian. Despite our best efforts, we have been unable to find any survivors. However, the remains of Commander Dorix were found this morning. With his death confirmed, it becomes my duty to assume the post of acting expedition commander, and the maintenance of this log. On my orders, Centurian Treyalak has placed all her efforts into examining debris recovered from the wreckage of our sister ships to determine what went wrong. Thus far, her efforts have been inconclusive. Yesterday, one of our shuttle teams managed to recover fragments of the Raze’s warp core. With luck, Treyalak will be able to ensure we don’t meet the same fate. |
IRW Pellecia. Expedition Commander’s Log. [Stardate 227506.15]. At the recommendation of my medical staff, I’ve extended the quarantine zone of the ship to include three decks. The virus continues to spread, but these efforts seem to have slowed its progress. Meanwhile, the impulse engines had to be shut down again for more repairs. Treyalak has a new plan to extend their viability... |
// IRW Pellecia. Expedition Commander’s Log. [Stardate 227507.02]. ...experiments with the unusual radiation have had a strange side effects on the voluntary test subjects. I’ve ordered the tests suspended, but several Reman members of the crew have protested. Doctor Arlak believes the radiation exposure may have a psychotropic effect that may be addictive with prolonged exposure. Morale continues to be an issue, so I may need to allow testing to resume... |
IRW Pellecia. Expedition Commander’s Log. [Stardate 227509.22]. ...engines were damaged again. Treyalak says we should be able to resume course in three days, but truthfully, it hardly seems worth the effort. I’ve ordered my senior staff to start working on a secondary plan to outfit some of our the shuttles with the new metal… |
IRW Pellecia. Expedition Commander’s Log. [Stardate 227511.19]. ...Remans have staged a small mutiny in the quarantined areas of the ship. Their goal appears to have been to to commandeer some of the science laboratories. The military officer in me says I should send every man I have down there to put the rebellion down, but I don’t want to risk exposing my healthy officers to the virus. Let them have their cursed experiments… |
IRW Pellecia. Expedition Commander’s Log. [Stardate 227603.30]. ...plasma fire spread to the cargo bays. At least forty percent of the remaining food supply was destroyed. We lost 32 crew, and almost twice that number suffered severe burns. The medical bay is overwhelmed, so I ordered the mess hall to be converted into a triage unit. We’re running low on dermal gel, however, we do have an ample supply of pain relievers. I suspect many of us will bear scars of this day for the rest of our lives... |
IRW Pellecia. Expedition Commander’s Log. [Stardate 227604.14]. ...impulse manifold won’t hold out for much longer. Treyalak says it will be three more weeks at the most. Four shuttles are almost ready. It won’t be enough to evacuate everyone, but it will be a chance… |
IRW Pellecia. Expedition Commander’s Log. [Stardate 227605.12]. ...I’ve selected the evacuation teams. We leave today. |
Log Entries
Chief Medical Officer’s Confidential Log, 239504.09 I have received an emergency communication from Lieutenant Commander Lael Rosek, who mentioned an Al-Leyan phenomenon akin to the Vulcan Pon-Farr. She has a few options, but the least pleasurable is death. That means, due to her unique hybrid physiology, I have to figure out a way to trick her body into believing everything’s fine. I may pull it off, or I may cause permanent harm. We shall see, and may I be forgiven if I accidentally break my oath in the process. Computer, end log & restrict access to medical staff and Captain Roshanara Rahman. Authorization Skyfire theta nine seven tango delta |
Captain's Log, Stardate 239504.14 Despite both my doubts and that of the Federation Archaeology Council, our initial analysis of the items recovered from Kallo Ver's vessel confirmed that they were genuine 23rd century Romulan artifacts. Of course, just because Mr. Ver had century old Romulan goods on his ship doesn't mean a whole treasure fleet is lying out there somewhere in the tetryon mist. I can think of a number of ways he might have come across them and even fewer of which are legal. Still, if there really *is* a lost 23rd century Romulan treasure fleet in the Shoals, then Starfleet has seen fit for us to pursue this possibility. To assist us, we've also enlisted the aid of Dr. Timothy Alentonis, a professor from Esperance and a noted expert in both Romulan history and the history of the Shoals. His impressive resume notwithstanding, Dr. Alentonis has had somewhat of a rough adjustment to being aboard a starship, and I've asked that the crew do their best to make him feel welcome as we make our way towards this supposed hidden warbird that Mr. Ver discovered. |
Second Officer’s Log, Stardate 239505.08 Our away mission to the derelict warbird was aborted after just one night. While there were many fascinating mysteries on the ship, and the ship represents an historic archaeological find, I can’t say I’m sorry to leave it behind. Based on our survey of the ship, the warbird is the final resting place of at least forty Remans and 89 Romulans. There’s a fine line between archaeology and grave robbing, and I'm not comfortable having to wonder which side of that line our actions fall under. |
First Officer’s Log, Stardate 239505.08. I almost feel as if we’ve found more questions than answers aboard the Pellecia. Was there anything more to it than a simple Romulan vessel that got lost while passing through the Shoals and which carried a few very interesting artifacts? Hopefully, a further analysis will tell. |
Captain's Log, SD 239505.24 Following our excursion to this uncharted world in search of Romulan treasures, we remain in orbit with the Orion Syndicate’s frigate apprehended. We have notified the Colonial Coalition Marshals, and they have dispatched one of their cutters to rendezvous with us once we clear the Shadows. I’ve decided to allow the crew some brief R&R on the planet before we depart. The time also allows me to have an important conversation with my first officer. |
Engineering Officer's Log, 239505.25 We’ve made some headway with our investigations into the Romulan element Reskariaehhrr, but most of what we have is based on simulations. As easy as it would be to just use bits of the box for further study, I can only imagine that the Captain and Headquarters want it intact. This really leaves little option but to take a team down to the planet in hopes of finding enough of the element to continue investigating its properties as well as the possibility that we could create an isotope that is similar enough in composition to its parent while being easier to replicate. |
Commander Kelrod's Log SD 239505.25 After an interesting away mission that started as an archaelogical one but turned out to be a place with interests from the Orion syndicate I’ve decided that from now on, anytime a SAR team member is to go with an away team, it’ll bring the phaser rifle, except in diplomatic missions or if stated directly by the Captain or the FO. The fact that we found ourselves against an armored shuttle only reinforces the feeling that the Shoals need a new way to do things from a Starfleet point of view. While not giving away our principles we need to remain alert, more than in other places of the quadrant as we can find surprises both, naturally occurring or by the inhabitants of the Shoals. That also taught me that we’ll need to modify a bit the SAR training program to include more scientific knowledge to deal with things like the type of radiation that we’ve found on this area, or the bombs that ruptured subspace on Antor II. |
First Officer’s Log, Stardate 239505.26 Repairs on the Veritas are progressing nicely, and we’ve brought the geological survey lab online full time while we map this previously unknown M class planet in the Shadows. I’m looking forward to spending some time planetside and exploring what this new world has to offer. In a few minutes, I have a meeting with Captain Rahman, and after that, we’ll be assembling teams to head to the surface. |
Duty Log 1.1 -- T'Katt Dugoras, Ships counselor, first entry. (SD 239505.27) I am finished with my part in the latest mission of the USS Veritas. For me, this was the first mission I have been on since joining Starfleet. I was glad to be able to serve on an away mission, unfortunately, my skill set did little for us during our time aboard the Romulan warbird. I may have overlooked details during my examinations that could have saved us time in our pursuits. While aboard we found the remains of a Romulan and Reman crew. My medical tricorder picked up feint, trace signs of a bacterial or viral infection. I was unable to determine the properties of the readings and failed to do a proper cross analysis of common viral and bacterial infections among the Romulans and Remans. I also failed to analyze the effects the radiation in this area of space could have had on these bacteria and virus. I believe I could have preformed better and I intend to take action on the lessons I have learned from this experience. |
Personal Log 1.1 -- T'Katt Dugoras, Ships counselor, first entry. (SD 239505.27) I'm intrigued by the use of a counselor on an away mission by the captain. Sure it's not entirely unusual as one would expect the counselor to have knowledge of the region and species relevant to the mission that could certainly be useful while exploring crew logs. But I had no such knowledge... my knowledge of the Romulans was common and mediocre at best, in addition, I allowed myself to possibly overlook simple details and in turn, I offered flawed advise and explanations while on this mission. I find myself perplexed by my actions during this event. It was as though I had just blindly walked through that ship without a thought. I think that my self-doubt and my constant zoning out is becoming a problem. I lose reality in my thoughts and tune out the world around me, this cannot happen anymore it will undoubtedly cause problems for the rest of the crew. As for my insecurity, I believe it's time for me to consult another mind on the matter. It's funny a doctor and a counselor and I cannot seem to help myself... |
Captain’s Log, Stardate 239506.12 Commander Mei’konda and I will be departing from Veritas shortly to attend the annual Admirals’ Banquet. This year’s event is being held on Starbase 11. It’s going to be a tight schedule, but once he and I get to Esperance, we’ll be able to secure transport on a slipstream transport back towards the Federation core. But first, I’ve assembled the crew in the auditorium to give special recognition of their efforts this last mission. And to start, we’ll begin with a very personal recognition… |
