Captain's Log, Stardate 239312.06

This is the first entry of Captain Roshanara Rahman, assuming command of this vessel under the orders of Admiral sh'Hiel. It's always difficult to begin a new assignment with a new crew, whether captain or crewman. Even during the launch of a brand new vessel, there is an uneasy period where both captain and crew are still learning about each other and ultimately to trust one another.

But this is not a new vessel, and this is not a new crew. They have suffered a tremendous loss with the death of Captain Carrero, and I sympathize, having experienced similar anguish last year when the Invicta crew and I had been informed--incorrectly--that Fleet Captain Kells had been killed. We later were able to retrieve him from his captors, but the Veritas crew cannot look forward to such a development.

All I can do is help them find out who did this and why.

The ship's stores have been restocked and all personnel have been recalled from leave. With navigation putting our ETA to Shadow's Edge at just over three weeks, we cannot afford to wait any longer to begin our investigation. We are scheduled to depart Star Station Esperance later this morning at 0900 hours.

Captain's Log, stardate 239312.19

Thanks to the hard work of our stellar cartography and navigation personnel, we were able to chart a course that shaved off a few days from our journey to Shadow's Edge. We are now in orbit of the colony, and though the scene of the crime--as it were--is no longer still fresh, the colony officials have done their best to preserve the evidence.

I have assigned the following personnel to begin our investigation.

To interview Shadow's Edge Governor Theo Giannakos and other witnesses:

To perform an autopsy on Captain Carrero's body as preserved by the capital morgue and examine forensic evidence analysis collected at the scene:

To investigate how power was cut to the governor's residence, any clues to who did it and why, and what other data, if any, can be retrieved from the security monitoring equipment that was disabled:

Meanwhile, as we entered orbit, we detected a directed transmission at Veritas, seemingly an automated transmission triggered by our arrival.

Lt. Cmdr. Mei'konda, Operations Ofc., Lt. JG Elena Sands, Security Ofc., and Ens. Sofek, Science Officer, remain aboard to examine the transmission with me.

Operations’ Officer's Log, stardate 239312.19

The Veritas is a good ship. Though very different than what I’ve served on in the past, she is more purpose built, more specific in her task. Over the last twenty days, I’ve started to grow accustomed to my quarters and to operations on board this ship.

I don’t have an operations staff, as I have on my prior assignments. It’s been refreshing to be more hands on in my day to day, rather than assigning my subordinates to tasks and taking Bridge duty where I can.

I’m still nervous about Evan. We’ll be in orbit around Shadow’s Edge in one hour. All I can hope for now is that he’ll be in one piece, and have a good explanation for what’s been happening.

Captain's Log, Stardate 239401.20

The Vulcan extremist known as Lenik has fled from Shadow's Edge along with his ship. Rather than pursue him, we've remained in orbit of Shadow's Edge to continue our investigation of Captain Carrero's death, along with the new developments that the away teams discovered.

Given his familiarity with the region and Lenik in particular, Agent Delano has been tasked to serve as a special advisor for the duration of this mission. I suspect he's grown an attachment to the Reya-Laialara, whom he had been assigned to observe, and that is what drives him to come back now to help us. Whether this will become a long-term arrangement or not remains to be seen.

Captain's Log, Stardate 239402.16

The captured pirate known as Sov has provided us crucial intelligence on how to track the vessels of the Kos’karii. We have forwarded the information to the Colonial Marshals, who have begun drafting plans to begin a major counteroffensive against the pirate faction. Veritas will likely be called to support the operation once put into action.

In the mean time, we returned to Shadow’s Edge, where our teams were successful in exposing the conspiracy within the Shadow’s Edge government, linking the proposed agreement with Steadfast Shipping to a long-running campaign of acts meant to terrorize and cause disarray that culminated in the attacks on the governor’s residence and the freighter Falcon. Shadow’s Edge security forces and the Colonial Marshals raided a warehouse that had been identified by our officers, arresting a number of individuals and confiscating jamming equipment and other evidence for prosecution.

We’re headed back to Star Station Esperance for some much-needed shore leave after the trauma this crew has faced with the loss of their captain. It seems Captain Carrero’s cruel fate was one of pure and unfortunate coincidence. She gave her life defending another, and we now are bringing her home from Shadow’s Edge so that she can finally be laid to rest.

Having restocked our supplies, we're proceeding along to Antor II, the capital of the Colonial Coalition. The crew seems to have enjoyed the reprieve offered by Esperance... well, most of them.

Captain's Log, Stardate 239405.02

We’ve retrieved our shuttle teams from Yorba Station, or at least what’s left of it. The station appears to have been struck by a large freighter, which has fused with a part of the remains. The teams only found one survivor, a Valtese smuggler named Kallo who has had previous run ins with the Colonial Marshals and Commander Blake.

Of concern now, however, is the whereabouts of Dr. Ryan and Agent Delano, who both disappeared during transport. Our best hope is that their signal may have somehow been diverted to the rogue M-class planet we have discovered in this pocket of calm within the Maelstrom. I’ve ordered the ship to head back towards the planet as we plan our next steps.

Captain's Log, Stardate 239405.24

We’re now heading back on course to Antor II, the capital of the Colonial Coalition. Engineering is still repairing the damage from our time in the Maelstrom, and the matter with the rogue planet refugees we’ve recovered remains ongoing, but in the meantime, I’ve been using our journey to take care of some overdue personnel issues.

Chief Medical Officer’s Log - Supplemental, Stardate 239406.05

I have completed several scans of the cybernetic implant inside Lt. jg Danni James’ brain. All results indicate it is indeed repairing the damage as described in earlier logs. I have yet to determine the exact makeup and origin of the implant, as well as its full functionality. There are still so many unanswered questions. As a precaution, I have also ran several diagnostics to rule out the possibility of any outside manipulation or contact. So far, I haven’t found anything to indicate it poses a threat to either Lt. James or the ship. Following protocol, I have file a report with the Captain as well as forwarded all the test results I have collected thus far. Naturally, it will be up to her to decide what further non-medical actions to take. I will continue to monitor Lt. James until I am absolutely certain there are no lingering medical issues.

Captain's Log, Stardate 239406.07

We will be arriving at Antor II tomorrow where the crew will be able to enjoy the rest of their shore leave. However, I felt it was important to honor their efforts in this past mission aboard Veritas. As such, I've called for a general assembly of crew and officers in the ship's auditorium.

Personal Log, Stardate 239406.07

On the eve of our arrival at Antor II, I’ve been invited to attend a recognition ceremony along with the rest of the senior staff. I’m hoping to use the opportunity to talk to the captain about an important decision.

Antor II is a mess. Tragic earthquakes caused by subspace rifts have rocked the planet, leaving a portion of the planet's domes uninhabitable. This has resulted in overcrowding and has led to violence on the planet's surface. Two bombings have taken the lives of many and has left many more in serious condition. Teams are still searching through the rubble for survivors. I've been assigned to work with Commander Blair and Lieutenant Commander Walker, our task: to rebuild the domes that housed the planet's population. We've come to the conclusion that once temporary housing has been established, it would be more efficient to come up with a design that would better withstand any future natural disasters.

Engineering Officer's Log, Stardate 239408.04

We were getting things set up in the mines when Commander Walker sent Commander Blair and I out to retrieve the antimatter from Commander Kelrod's team. Unfortunately, a cave-in occurred and effectively trapped both Lieutenant Thoran and Commander Walker behind a wall of rock. We have no idea of their status since something in the composition of the rock is blocking communicators. Working with Commander Kelrod's team, we've devised a plan to beam the rocks away a little at at time while establishing support beams along the way to prevent further cave-ins. In an attempt to establish some sort of communication, I've jury-rigged my communicator to send a morse code message on repeat using the chirps from the commbadge itself: S-T-A-N-D pause B-A-C-K. I had hoped that one of our missing colleagues would be able to use their communicator to respond in kind, but so far we haven't heard anything. With their already poor air supply decreasing, I'm afraid that if we don't act soon, we'll be recovering corpses instead.

Captain's Log, Stardate 239408.06

Though a few fires remain in the city and rescue crews continue to sweep the area for any other survivors, the initial response to the attack on New Macau has mostly finished. The city's medical facilities are overrun with the injured and dying, and Veritas' own medical department is doing what it can to help with some of the severe cases.

Shortly ago, our science officer made a disturbing discovery on the origins of the tricobalt device, and I've assembled the senior staff along with Governor Blackhurst's over remote coms to go over the findings and its implications.

Chief Medical Officer's Log - Stardate 239408.08

The medical staff has been working exhaustively in cooperation with Antor II’s Department of Emergency Services. While unlikely that we will find many more survivors, we haven’t given up. We will continue our efforts until the Captain and the Antor II government decide otherwise.

Unfortunately, during our efforts to help several of our officers were injured in the process. The more serious injuries include Lt. Commander Raissa Moonsong and Lt. Commander Luna Walker, both who sustained head injuries and will remain under observation for the next 24 hours, and Lt. Ki Shandres who remains in serious but stable condition.

Welcome back to the Invicta. Okay, Veritas, but most of the faces are familiar. It's more or less the same crew, just on a different ship. I've changed, they've undoubtedly changed, and my first few days back Murphy decides to pick on me again. One person on this ship will likely not be happy to see me due to past shenanigans on the Excalibur.

Still need to check in with Mei'konda, still need to get my room assignment sorted, still need to set up an appointment with Ris, still need to pay a social call to a few people.

Oh, and Murphy: shove off.

As Governor Blackhurst was preparing to give her speech, the Veritas was attacked by Romulan and Cardassian ships. While this attack was underway, individuals who had been able to successfully bring aboard otherwise innocuous items constructed weapons. The facts of the situation indicate they were planning the onboard attack as both an attempt to rid the region of Starfleet interference, which they believed to be a threat to the stability of their world. Further evidence points to an attempt Governor Blackhurst's life because she supported Starfleet officers aiding the planet in it's distress. We were unable to apprehend the individual who claimed responsibility for the attacks on Antor II. He remains elusive and at large in the region. Only time will tell if we will eventually be able to track him down and put a stop to his acts of mass murder and terrorism.

Captain's Log, Stardate 239409.06

It’s been two days since we first arrived at Antor II, and though the fires have been put out, the recovery and response efforts to the disaster are far from over.

After the attack on her chief of staff, Governor Blackhurst has requested the use of Veritas as a more secure stage for a major speech outlining the Antor government’s plan moving forward as it relates to both rebuilding and the threat of Jilor and the Kos’karii.

However, mere hours before the governor’s scheduled speech, I was informed that another attack could be imminent, this time on Veritas itself. Fortunately, we seemed to have caught a lucky break.

Rahman3.jpg
Captain
Roshanara Rahman

Captain’s Log, Stardate 239409.18

While we may not have Jilor, we do have a number of his men. A small squadron of Colonial Coalition Marshal cutters have joined us to supplement Antor II’s defenses and confiscate the captured Kos’karii vessels. The pirates being treated in sickbay have been arrested and are likewise being transferred to the Marshals. While in the wake of such death and destruction, it may not seem like much, I can’t help but feel we have made significant steps towards capturing the pirate king himself and bringing him to justice.

Following the unexpected interruption, Governor Blackhurst was able to go on with her speech to Antor and the rest of the Colonial Coalition from Veritas. I’m not a political analyst, but it seemed the press and others in attendance were pleased with what she had to say.

For now, we remain in orbit of Antor, continuing to offer our assistance to its people and the governor’s staff. I have asked the Governor to join me before she returns to the surface.

I’ve occasionally imagined what it must have been like in the twenty second and twenty third centuries, for crews on those older ships to be exploring at the speeds we’ve been traveling through the Shoals at. The Veritas is a fairly comfortable vessel. Under other circumstances, we’d be traveling much faster, and have more frequent access to shore leave. Back then, it must have been an entirely different job.

In about fifteen minutes, we’ll be passing one of the road waystations and entering the road itself. It feels almost like we’re about to reach a new warp factor for the first time. I’m looking forward to it.

Veritas has arrived at Outpost 3, a small way station just under a week’s travel from Antor. The station was heavily damaged after a Klingon pirate raid earlier this year, and despite several months of repairs, it looks to be in a dilapidated state. I’ve beamed over to conduct a tour of the facility with the engineer in charge of the repairs to see just what exactly he’s supposedly been doing for the past sixty days.

A few days ago, I was feeling good about the shuttle retrofit project. We had a solid plan that would get both shuttles operational and up to the SAR team specs within a few weeks. Today, half of the senior staff, including yours truly, was assigned to find a way to make it happen in a few days. And we’re doing it as a competition. Normally, that wouldn’t bother me, but Mei’konda’s been assigned to lead the opposing team. I haven’t had the chance to work much with Commander Kelrod, who will be leading my team, so I'm looking forward to getting to know him a little better. That said, if we’re going to win this thing, he's going to have to be a damn good pilot to keep up with Mei.

SAR Leader's Log (Stardate 239410.20)

Computer start record.

The last days have been... unique, to say the least. We've been to Antor II where the Klingon Jilor attacked the planet with a quantum torpedo, pressumably stolen and created a subspace tear within the planet, on the impact site. More surprisingly the tear didn't dissapear inmediately, but remained, threatening to grow and provoking a genocide. We've averted it and found a secret installation but before we could discover what's there, we found some mercenaries, including a Cardassian and we were forced to leave. But what make those last days really unique were a... incredible news. I've been dating Ensign Stiftani Harik, here and there, we shared some ... chemistry, she wasn't afraid of me, nor suspicious, just gentle, caring, ... we've had our passionate days, somehow she made me feel ... free, to be myself, made me feel important, on a personal level, no distrust, no doubts... she was like Raj, but being a woman. Oh my... when Raj finds out... he won't believe it.

The important fact is that ... oh, it's amazing,.... she told me that... I'm to be a FATHER! Me! Can you believe it? Oh, maybe you're listening to this. I still don't know if you're a boy or a girl, but I don't care. I was stunned, shocked, freezed, when she told me. I've reacted like a retard, I confess. But after ... how much it was... two hundred,... three hundred years bodyless, then merging with Marcus and seeing life through his eyes, seeing him with Vojana, I'd lost all hopes for something like this to happen to me. But,... here we are.... with me realizing that my hands shaked, my voice trembled, my legs melted... My father left my mother when I was so young, I never forgot nor forgiven him for that, even when he reached to me when I was coming of age. He didn't deserves me, my mother raised me alone, fell ill and finally died without having the chance to live a full life, I had to grow up quick, be strong, no time or money for good comodities or to enjoy summers together as we would have liked.

Because of this I've realized that I don't want you to doubt that I'll love you forever, I might become hard on some aspects with you, but it's only because I plan to be the father that I lacked. Forgive me for any mistake that I might make on the road that we'll walk together and I hope that someday, you'll be able to walk your own path and that you'll have the tools and the assurance that I love you and hope that you'll love me too. Anytime, anywhere, no matter what, no matter when, no matter why, I'll be your father and I'll be with you.

Ever had to work outside your element? Here I am, working on an engineering project. Lt. Greyson makes some crack about me in a gold uniform, then I'm suddenly reminded of when I was teasing Alex about wearing teal. Alex replied "If that ever happens, run away." I guess I can't make the same joke about gold, but here's hoping I don't amputate a crucial system off my patient, Prospero.

I wonder if I'll be needing to find all my engineering PADDs from the academy just to keep up with Alex. I also wonder if I can get away with dressing up as an engineer for the Halloween party.

Captain’s Log, Stardate 239411.05 With our shuttle teams currently away conducting their trials, Veritas has remained at Outpost 3, continuing to assist in the repair efforts while also investigating the felicium. The last few weeks have been tedious and exhausting. The trail seems to have gone cold… as if it had ever been anything else… in our investigation of the felicium found hidden in the bulkheads of Outpost 3. I am, however, happy to report that after testing the crew of the Outpost 3, none of them tested positive for drug usage. Lt. Commander Blake and I have been busy sweeping the outpost to make sure every last bit of the drug has been accounted for and safely secured. With the help of Paxton and Lt.jg Sepek, we are in the final stages of securing and cataloguing the felicium.

The last two weeks have been filled with hard work, but it’s the sort I find particularly gratifying. It’s not often that I get to dig into the guts of a spacecraft any more, not in my position. I may not be as good at it as Walker and Blair, but what I’ve done has been satisfying. We’ve just launched the Prospero, and we’re en route to the coordinates laid out by the Ferdinand to begin the trials for our modified shuttles.

We've finally made it a reality. The modification of the Type 10 shuttle for the SAR team that will be known from now on as Shadow. We've also been tasked to modify a second shuttle, the Prospero, so the Veritas will be even more versatile and we'll be engaging some trials in a few hours to check their performance in the Shoals. I'm confident with the Shadow as I've had the help of Luna, commander Walker, the Chief engineer of the Veritas. I've served with her for a few years on different ships and if she says something will work, I'll believe her. I'd like to recognize too Lieutenant Commander Delano and ensign Wolfe, a new science officer, that helped with the sensors and scientific approach of the shuttle. So, it seems that I'm settling in as the SAR leader, gaining confidence everyday, with every mission. Once I'm back from this trials I'll need to have a talk with the captain, I'd like to tell her that I'll be the father to Harik's child and that we intend to live together. I still have to talk and meet her parents, that'll come with time and I hope I'll be ready for it. It still amazes me that I could feel this way after more than a century of existance... But I've never been a father, so... I guess it's normal.

Aside from that personal feeling, I still find difficult to interact with some of the crew, they're specially,... ellusive, or just not interested in interpersonal relationship with my persona. I wonder if it's something natural on them but something tells me that they still don't feel comfortable with me as they still can see Marcus on me. Talking about that, he's also happy for the baby news, but is somehow hesitant to feel the full extent of joy, because in his mind he expects something to go wrong and be deceived again. I have to admit that part of those thoughts and feelings permeate me and I can't avoid it, but I'm eager to try to put them aside and be happy with Harik and the baby.

Just in case something happens I'd like to leave here that I love Frankie a lot and that despite that I still don't know you, I love you my child and I want you to grow happy and strong, be good with your mother and made us both proud of your accomplishments.

End log.

We’ve retrieved all three of our shuttles. The trials for our modified Type 10s are on hold for now as we look into the strange electrostatic radiation field that Commander Mei’konda reported responsible for an unexplained power loss to both shuttles that were participating in the trials.

As soon as we informed the Klingons of our detection of a small Orion vessel, they hastily departed to give chase into the Shadows. Veritas, however, will be sticking around Outpost 3 for the time being. The outpost still needs much work done—especially if Commander Core is intent on seeing it brought back to operational status. Furthermore, there is still the matter of our shuttle trials that have yet to be concluded.

We might not have gotten all the answers yet over these last few weeks, but we’re left with a number of substantial clues we’ve begun deciphering. And with the appearance of that Orion vessel, there is one thing I have no doubt about: this isn’t the last we’ve seen of the infamous Orion Syndicate. After re-emerging into the galactic consciousness during last year’s so-called “War of Shadows,” it seems they’ve decided to make the Shoals their newest territory.

Their mistake.

I’ve got a chair on the Bridge.

Now I guess we’ll see if the Captain will let me keep it. Several days ago, we left the derelict Rockhound along with a warning beacon about the radiation. We still haven’t completely determined whether it was an intentional trap, but my gut says yes.

Engineering is still working to see if they can restore any of the damaged isolinear chips that we recovered from the Rockhound, and I’m hopeful that we’ll get something off of them. At first glance, the Captain’s log appears to be entirely routine, aside from a mention of sensor shadows picked up the day before their last log entry. Could this have been the Orion ship, shadowing them? If there are sensor records on those isolinear chips, maybe they’ll be able to tell.

I’ve ordered a briefing to discuss the results of the first trials of the two type ten shuttles. Computer, conclude log entry.

Though the sting of Alex's sudden departure hasn't quite faded, recent events have given me something to look forward to. Yesterday, the Captain promoted me to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. It was bittersweet in a way, given both Alex's absence and Chythar's struggles to regain his rank, but today is a new day and I'm thoroughly excited about the possibilities. Never would I have imagined a year ago after having returned from a year in hell that I would see this day. It continues to amaze me how much difference time has made in healing old wounds. Maddy, my young ward (and I hope soon, my adopted daughter) has given me so much strength. Being responsible for her has pushed me to overcome my fears. Another blessing in disguise that I hadn't counted on is Jon. He's been amazingly supportive and patient as I try to be better at opening up to and trusting others. I hope that progress continues as I seek guidance from Evan Delano on gaining better control over my emotions and as I attempt to build a trust with Commander Walker.

We’re moments away from arrival at the Astraeus’ location, and sensors indicate she’s under heavy attack from multiple targets. While readings are always difficult to verify, it would appear that she’s still putting up a fight, and I’m hoping that the damage she’s sustained while waiting for us to reinforce her is minor.

I’ve ordered shields up and weapons charged. With any luck, we’ll be able to end this attack with a minimum of death today.

Kallo Ver & The Hunt for the Lost Romulan Treasure Fleet

Captain's Log, Stardate 239504.14

Despite both my doubts and that of the Federation Archaeology Council, our initial analysis of the items recovered from Kallo Ver's vessel confirmed that they were genuine 23rd century Romulan artifacts. Of course, just because Mr. Ver had century old Romulan goods on his ship doesn't mean a whole treasure fleet is lying out there somewhere in the tetryon mist. I can think of a number of ways he might have come across them and even fewer of which are legal.

Still, if there really *is* a lost 23rd century Romulan treasure fleet in the Shoals, then Starfleet has seen fit for us to pursue this possibility. To assist us, we've also enlisted the aid of Dr. Timothy Alentonis, a professor from Esperance and a noted expert in both Romulan history and the history of the Shoals. His impressive resume notwithstanding, Dr. Alentonis has had somewhat of a rough adjustment to being aboard a starship, and I've asked that the crew do their best to make him feel welcome as we make our way towards this supposed hidden warbird that Mr. Ver discovered.

Without the protection of the cloak, a subspace drag effect created by the dense tetryon fields caused sudden and rapid deceleration. Though inertial dampeners were able to compensate, several systems were damaged and three crew were killed by shifting cargo. Full damage report and the names of the deceased are attached. Let it be known that they died in service of the empire.

Our away mission to the derelict warbird was aborted after just one night. While there were many fascinating mysteries on the ship, and the ship represents an historic archaeological find, I can’t say I’m sorry to leave it behind. Based on our survey of the ship, the warbird is the final resting place of at least forty Remans and 89 Romulans. There’s a fine line between archaeology and grave robbing, and I'm not comfortable having to wonder which side of that line our actions fall under.

I almost feel as if we’ve found more questions than answers aboard the Pellecia. Was there anything more to it than a simple Romulan vessel that got lost while passing through the Shoals and which carried a few very interesting artifacts? Hopefully, a further analysis will tell.

It’s been two days since the loss of the Raze and Sulvian. Despite our best efforts, we have been unable to find any survivors. However, the remains of Commander Dorix were found this morning. With his death confirmed, it becomes my duty to assume the post of acting expedition commander, and the maintenance of this log.

On my orders, Centurian Treyalak has placed all her efforts into examining debris recovered from the wreckage of our sister ships to determine what went wrong. Thus far, her efforts have been inconclusive. Yesterday, one of our shuttle teams managed to recover fragments of the Raze’s warp core. With luck, Treyalak will be able to ensure we don’t meet the same fate.

Captain's Log, SD 239505.24

Following our excursion to this uncharted world in search of Romulan treasures, we remain in orbit with the Orion Syndicate’s frigate apprehended. We have notified the Colonial Coalition Marshals, and they have dispatched one of their cutters to rendezvous with us once we clear the Shadows. I’ve decided to allow the crew some brief R&R on the planet before we depart. The time also allows me to have an important conversation with my first officer.

We’ve made some headway with our investigations into the Romulan element Reskariaehhrr, but most of what we have is based on simulations. As easy as it would be to just use bits of the box for further study, I can only imagine that the Captain and Headquarters want it intact. This really leaves little option but to take a team down to the planet in hopes of finding enough of the element to continue investigating its properties as well as the possibility that we could create an isotope that is similar enough in composition to its parent while being easier to replicate.

After an interesting away mission that started as an archaelogical one but turned out to be a place with interests from the Orion syndicate I’ve decided that from now on, anytime a SAR team member is to go with an away team, it’ll bring the phaser rifle, except in diplomatic missions or if stated directly by the Captain or the FO. The fact that we found ourselves agains an armored shuttle only reinforces the feeling that the Shoals need a new way to do things from a Starfleet point of view. While not giving away our principles we need to remain alert, more than in other places of the quadrant as we can find surprises both, naturally occurring or by the inhabitants of the Shoals. That also taught me that we’ll need to modify a bit the SAR training program to include more scientific knowledge to deal with things like the type of radiation that we’ve found on this area, or the bombs that ruptured subspace on Antor II.

Repairs on the Veritas are progressing nicely, and we’ve brought the geological survey lab online full time while we map this previously unknown M class planet in the Shadows. I’m looking forward to spending some time planetside and exploring what this new world has to offer. In a few minutes, I have a meeting with Captain Rahman, and after that, we’ll be assembling teams to head to the surface.

Duty Log 1.1 -- T'Katt Dugoras, Ships counselor, first entry. (SD 239505.27)

I am finished with my part in the latest mission of the USS Veritas. For me, this was the first mission I have been on since joining Starfleet. I was glad to be able to serve on an away mission, unfortunately, my skill set did little for us during our time aboard the Romulan warbird. I may have overlooked details during my examinations that could have saved us time in our pursuits. While aboard we found the remains of a Romulan and Reman crew. My medical tricorder picked up feint, trace signs of a bacterial or viral infection. I was unable to determine the properties of the readings and failed to do a proper cross analysis of common viral and bacterial infections among the Romulans and Remans. I also failed to analyze the effects the radiation in this area of space could have had on these bacteria and virus. I believe I could have preformed better and I intend to take action on the lessons I have learned from this experience.

Personal Log 1.1 -- T'Katt Dugoras, Ships counselor, first entry. (SD 239505.27)

I'm intrigued by the use of a counselor on an away mission by the captain. Sure it's not entirely unusual as one would expect the counselor to have knowledge of the region and species relevant to the mission that could certainly be useful while exploring crew logs. But I had no such knowledge... my knowledge of the Romulans was common and mediocre at best, in addition, I allowed myself to possibly overlook simple details and in turn, I offered flawed advise and explanations while on this mission. I find myself perplexed by my actions during this event. It was as though I had just blindly walked through that ship without a thought. I think that my self-doubt and my constant zoning out is becoming a problem. I lose reality in my thoughts and tune out the world around me, this cannot happen anymore it will undoubtedly cause problems for the rest of the crew. As for my insecurity, I believe it's time for me to consult another mind on the matter. It's funny a doctor and a counselor and I cannot seem to help myself...

The medical bay is overwhelmed, so I ordered the mess hall to be converted into a triage unit. We’re running low on dermal gel, however, we do have an ample supply of pain relievers.
