Revision as of 02:01, 14 January 2024 by Addison MacKenzie (talk | contribs)

Dr. Addison MacKenzie, M.D., Ph.D., FASFS is the Commanding Officer of the USS Artemis-A. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts (Earth), Addison is one of the leading specialists in Microsurgery in Starfleet. A non-traditional officer, MacKenzie was educated at some of Earth's finest institutions, earning degrees in sociology, anthropology, and epidemiology, and completed a medical fellowship in microsurgery after attending Starfleet Academy, thus resulting in a slight delay in her commission. It is her hope to one day become Chief of Surgery at Starfleet Medical.

Personal History

Early Years (2365-2383)

Addison MacKenzie was born in the spring of 2365 to Kenneth (an architect) and Priscilla (an anthropologist) MacKenzie in Cambridge, Mass. (Earth). The middle of three children, Addison's early years were searching for ways to stand out. Her brother, Ryan, was the oldest (and the only boy), and her sister Amelia was the baby - all did relatively well in school, and all had varying degrees of interest in the sciences. From a young age, Addison was studious and took her academic responsibilities seriously. As she grew up and her scholastic interests became more defined, so too did the weight with which she approached her studies.

USS Veritas

Sentinel

  • Stardate 239603 - 239605

Addison MacKenzie joins the crew of the Veritas just in time for her first mission. The USS Veritas along with an escort from Task Force 105, the Steamrunner class USS Solaris, were ordered to the Menthar Corridor to investigate why the Vesta class USS Endurance suddenly lost sensor contact with all Tholian ships, and a field of tetryon radiation enveloped the system. Upon arriving, both ships were fired on by Tholian ships, resulting in the destruction of the Solaris.

Doctors MacKenzie and del Vedova set up a triage center to accommodate wounded Veritas and Solaris crew members, and MacKenzie assisted in analyzing wreckage picked up in the debris field. Her analysis concluded that pieces of the various ships had been "stitched" together and were being controlled by an alien defense system known as Sentinel. At the same time, Veritas encountered a badly damaged Tholian vessel, who claimed to be attacked by a Starfleet vessel identical to the Veritas. Later, the crew learned the attacker was the USS Minerva, a Veritas-class vessel lost during the Battle of Astrofori One late last year, which, like the Tholian drone vessels, was also under the control of Sentinel.

After the battle, the crew identified a connection between Sentinel and Menthar ruins on a nearby planet. MacKenzie was dispatched as part of an away team to investigate while Starfleet and Tholian crew members attempted to liberate several ships from Sentinel's control to provide fire support for Veritas, which had once again come under heavy attack by Sentinel's drones, including the Solaris and the Minerva. While on the planet, MacKenzie was responsible for providing emergency aid to Lieutenant Solak, who sustained injuries from a disruptor blast. Seeing no other choice, Captain Rahman on the Veritas made a decision to destroy the ruins, ultimately disabling Sentinel.

Play the Part

  • Stardate 239605 - 239606

Addison meets Ghant Xerix on the USS Veritas after he was reassigned as the ship's helm officer and began a romantic relationship shortly thereafter. Their first date together coincided with the Paris bombing of 2396. Following the death of Xerix's cousin Choupette, MacKenzie and several crew members accompanied Xerix to Betazed to attend the funeral.

On the return trip from Betazed, the group was ambushed by members of the Maquis Reborn, who claimed responsibility for the bombing in Paris. During their escape attempt, Xerix became seriously injured, suffering a severe cerebral hemorrhage. Following the group's rescue by the USS Fesoan, Addison scrubbed in and performed emergency surgery, saving Xerix's life.

The First Colony

  • Stardate 239606 - 239608

Veritas investigates the murder of Commander Armin Illanos, a Starfleet officer on Ketar V, where tensions have been rising between the growing Romulan refugee population and the original Federation settlers of the colony. MacKenzie and Chief Medical Officer del Vedova completed a forensic examination of Illanos' corpse and the crime scene while other members of the crew questioned key employees of the Livernois shipyard, where Illanos served as Starfleet liaison.

Later, MacKenzie was assigned to an away team responsible for rendering aid to a large apartment complex fire. Addison was responsible for providing on-site medical attention and coordinating triage arrangements. While assisting some of the refugees, it was discovered that some of them had come in contact with Felicium. This finding later helped uncover Commander Illanos' involvement in an illegal trafficking operation.

Tour de Ketar V

  • Stardate 239608 - 239609

Addison participated in the 'Tour de Ketar V Pub Crawl.' The crawl, organized by Assistant Chief Engineer Wil Ukinix, featured five stops including Welder's Diner, The Settler's Arms Pub, The Singing Shoals Karaoke Lounge, The Explosive Decompression Bar, and The Republic Arms Plate & Pint.

Addison completed her first journal publication in the Starfleet Medical Journal along with co-author Geoffrey Teller, Chief Engineer of the Veritas.

Apparently suffering from a severe migraine, Lt. Cmdr. Sky Blake makes her way to sickbay on unsteady legs and all but collapses onto a biobed. When Doctor Addison MacKenzie examines her, she discovers the problem is far more serious than a simple headache and enlists the aid of Chief Engineer Geoffrey Teller. Exotic metaphasic particles, used years before in an unorthodox and highly illegal medical procedure, have begun to break down within Blake's spine, threatening her life. Working in tandem, MacKenzie & Teller are able to stabilize Blake's condition but the prognosis is grim and the situation is complicated further when they discover that all the files related to the original procedure have been classified. A difficult conversation with the Captain leads them both to pursue new avenues of research and, in the case of Teller, to create a modified EMHMKVI to help them discover a treatment for Blake before time runs out.

Lt. G'var, Wil Ukinix enlists the aid of Geoffrey Teller & Addison MacKenzie to conduct a Klingon Rite of Ascension ceremony in the ships holodeck. Lt. G'var is moved by the gesture and, although she had already undergone the ritual as a child under the cruel gaze of hateful parents, she chose to rededicate herself to her newfound family aboard the Veritas.lt.

Charybdis

  • Stardate 239609 - 239612

Addison is assigned to the USS Diligent as Acting Chief Medical Officer. Tasked with getting the vessel spaceworthy, the skeleton crew spent several weeks making improvements to the ship before needing to move it from the shipyards to prevent damage from an incoming solar storm.

After successfully weathering the storm, Commander Delano left the Diligent to return back to the Livernois Shipyards, leaving Geoffrey Teller in command. He then promoted Addison to Acting First Officer.

Upon the discovery that the USS Veritas had entered a pocket of subspace referred to as The Void, the Diligent entered the Void with a plan to rescue the Veritas. While the Veritas drifted powerless due to the effects of the wisps (entities native to the Void), Addison led an away team to render aid and, in the process, discovered information that proved vital to rescuing both vessels.

Embassy of Duronis II

The Til'ahn Gambit

  • Stardate 239701 - 239703

Just a day after arriving on the Embassy with Lieutenant Commander Geoffrey Teller, the shuttle carrying Commanders Teller, MacKenzie, Pandorn, Lieutenant Garcia and Ensign Wilkins was shot down in an assassination attempt against Rear Admiral Toni Turner as the Embassy crew embarked on a tour of Til'ahn. While tending to the injuries of her colleagues, MacKenzie was captured and taken hostage by the two Romulans, Sojot and V'Tak, responsible for the assassination attempt. She was beaten, shot and interrogated in the cave where the Romulans were hiding until eventually, they received a transmission from a would-be Romulan extraction team. At the end of the message was a secret message from Teller in the form of a sea shanty, suggesting that help was on the way.

After receiving the message, MacKenzie appealed to Sojot, the more rational of the two, and convinced them to rendezvous with their would-be extraction team. As the trio walked through the forest, they were intercepted by a large feline animal, who attacked V'Tak. Sojot and MacKenzie escaped and made it to the rendezvous coordinates, where they were met by a marine rescue squad. At MacKenzie's instruction, they took Sojot prisoner and returned to the Embassy, where MacKenzie received treatment for her injuries.

USS Thor

The Lost Colony

  • Stardate 239704 - 239706

The USS Thor responded to a lost colony world in the Menthar Corridor known as Vel Maijan, thought to have disappeared from existence in 2159. In an attempt to discover what happened to the world and the original colonists, Commander MacKenzie took a team to the surface for the purpose of scientific and medical exploration, only to find that the planet was growing increasingly unstable, like to shift back out of space-time as it had previously.

Upon this discovery, Commander MacKenzie recommended all Starfleet personnel be recalled back to the Thor. When learning that Commander Teller's team had located nearly two hundred survivors, a mass evacuation was planned. MacKenzie oversaw the physical health and onboarding of their new passengers, ensuring that they were properly evaluated and quarantined before joining the ship's population, per Starfleet Medical protocols.

Hammerfall

  • Stardate 239707.03 - 239708.18

After a mine of unknown origin struck the USS Thor, Addison was responsible for coordinating the medical response of mass injuries. After the decision was made for the majority of the crew to abandon the ship, Addison oversaw the response effort. For her service on this mission, she was awarded the Captain's Commendation, Lifesaving Ribbon, Explorer's Ribbon and the Purple Heart. She was then reassigned to the USS Resolution as First Officer.

USS Resolution

Unity

  • Stardate 239707.20 - 239709.13

En route to their first mission within the Borderlands, the USS Resolution discovers a derelict ship adrift not far from the Klingon neutral zone border. The ship is identified as the USS Unity, a Constitution-refit class (one of the last) that had gone missing and presumed destroyed over 50 years ago. Commander MacKenzie led an away team over to the ship to make an attempt to figure out what happened and to try to restore power so that she could be taken back to Starbase 118 to be decommissioned properly.

When the away team arrived, they discovered not only the complete lack of power and life support, but the dead bodies of the entire crew all over the ship. Because of the lack of oxygen, the bodies didn't decay as they normally would have. When power was restored, some kind of automated system was activated, causing the Unity to fire on the Resolution. Meanwhile, the team was unable to immediately disable the weapons or deactivate the shields to beam back, the telepathic members of the away team found themselves struggling with an entity attempting to make contact with them, including strong emotional feelings and visions. Fortunately, Lieutenant MacNemar risked her personal safety to enter a radiation-flooded area, disable the phasers, lower the shields and allow the team to beam back.

Once back on the Resolution, the crew discovered there was a noncorporeal creature in the Unity's computer core. After making contact with the creature, the Resolution towed the Unity to a nearby nebula, returning the creature to its home, before taking the Unity back to Starbase 118 to be decommissioned.

Come What May

  • Stardate 239709.29 – 239711.16

The Resolution was dispatched to the Da’al homeworld after Starfleet received a request for assistance from the government’s military advisor, Zeneth, who cited a potential Klingon invasion. The Da’al, a non-violent warp-capable species, had previously refused to establish formal relations with either the Federation or the Klingon Empire, citing their desire to remain independent.

Commander MacKenzie led an away team to the surface to investigate the motives behind the Klingon occupational force. The away team learned that the Da’al and the Klingons share a common ancestry, and the Klingon force was sent to welcome the Da’al into the Empire. The military advisor attempted to advocate for the continued separation of their peoples and asked for the Federation’s intercession, but when Starfleet tried to mediate the dispute, the prime minister moved to assume total control of the government. After MacKenzie questioned the prime minister, which was accidentally widely broadcast throughout the Da’al home world and its outlying colonies, the prime minister’s true intentions were revealed and he was faced with immediate protests by the citizens under his jurisdiction. He was immediately placed under arrest and is awaiting trial.

Before Starfleet departed, the advisor responded favorably to the idea of establishing peaceful relations with the Federation in due time. The Klingons left the system without incident.

The Saural Inquisition

  • Stardate 239712 – 239802

The crew of the Resolution is informed that the freighter Andalucia has gone missing. When entering the Celendi Nebula after finding a faint energy trail from the freighter, the Resolution is pulled into a gravimetric distortion. It quickly becomes apparent that this was the fate of the Andalucia as well and they quickly discover they have jumped thousands of years into the future.

Addison led an away team to Saural V on a covert mission to recover the Andalucia's crew, but upon the team's discovery, that effort turned into an assault on the compound where they were being held. After being rescued by the Resolution, MacKenzie learned of Captain Nicholotti's incapacity, assumes command, and sets a course for Vulcan where Nicholotti can receive treatment.

The Ties That Bind

  • Stardate 239802.28 – 239804.07

With Captain Nicholotti grounded by Starfleet Medical and Addison MacKenzie as Acting Captain, the crew of the USS Resolution is sent Vionus IV to negotiate claim to the planet between the Thama, a people of science and exploration, and the Nascaik, who want rights to the planet for mining related to their military agenda.

Commander MacKenzie worked with Counselor Meidra Sirin and Ensign Etan Iljor to determine a plan of action and the motivations of the Thama and Nascaik while other members of the crew worked to make modifications to the Resolution to accommodate the other races. After both delegations arrive, MacKenzie led the mediation, which was interrupted when the Thama aide, Ashal Koas, detonated an explosive device that crippled the Resolution and allowed Koas to kidnap the Nascaik delegate, Rossk Ar-Dev.

The Resolution pursued Koas to the lost colony of Aspiration where MacKenzie ordered a team to retrieve Ar-Dev. While they were able to successfully retrieve Ar-Dev, they were not able to apprehend Koas before she detonated a bomb.

After Ar-Dev returned to the Resolution, the true motivations for each races' plans were revealed, particularly when it was discovered that the Nascaik intended to use the materials extracted from the planet to genetically modify their superior third gender: hypermales. Addison is able to get both sides to agree to a joint program for research into the plights of both of their worlds with a non-aggression agreement from the Nascaik and a transitional offering of two worlds taken by them from the Thama, back to the original settlers.

Stranded

  • Stardate 239805.03 – 239806.13

The crew of the Resolution set out for the Briar Patch in search of the mission Federation survey ship Hanno. They are joined by Senator Vreeya of the Romulan Star Empire, who joins them in search of two missing Romulan ships that appear to have met a similar fate. When arriving at the planet where the ships were suspected to have gone down, the Resolution was hit with a gravitational wave and pelted by rocks. With various systems losing power for unknown reasons, Captain Nicholotti ordered a Blue Alert.

The ship had a hard landing on the surface of the rogue planet. An away team found the Hanno and determined the area to be recently abandoned. After being "attacked" by a rock-like creature, they followed its escape route only to find it was with the remains of the Hanno and Romulan survivors. After an encounter with the Skarn, the away team made their way back to the Resolution, who managed to restore power, at which point they rescued the crews of the Hanno and Romulan ships.

Time in a Bottle

  • Stardate 239807.21 - 239808.20

The crew of the Resolution was pulled through a loop, which was actually the work of CloQ, a member of the Q Continuum, who forces them to relive the five minutes leading up to their deaths at the hands of a Klingon D-7 cruiser over and over again. With each passing instance, the crew remembers more and more of what had previously happened, until eventually Addison and several members of the crew are brought into CloQ's universe, at which point they manage to determine that the way out of the loop is to start smashing several of CloQ's timepieces, after which CloQ resets the timeline for good.

After the mission, Captain Nicholotti falls ill and Addison and Genkos Adea take her to Vulcan to undergo extensive experimental treatment.

Cats Among the Pigeons

  • Stardate 239809.20 - 239810.16

Addison remains on Vulcan to see to the care of Captain Nicholotti while Genkos Adea is left in command of the Resolution. During its investigation of Rinascita Research Station, they are tricked by several Suliban, who detonate a Genesis Device on board the Resolution, destroying the ship. Addison and Kalianna return to the ship just in time to watch its destruction from a nearby shuttlecraft.

USS Excalibur-A

Shadow Out of Mind

  • Stardate 239811.25 - 239901.09

The Excalibur and her new crew is sent by Starfleet to investigate elevated radiation levels on the uninhabited planet of Cytarix V. Prior, the planet was habitable, but uninhabited, and lacked enough resources to be of interest. While enroute, it is discovered that there appeared to have been some gravitational forces at work. An object that originated from Cytarix V "launched" towards the fourth planet and seemed to slingshot around it displacing several asteroids in the process.

Upon arrival, Addison lead an away team via shuttlecraft to gather samples to be studied. After gathering samples and returning to their shuttle, Ensign Dakora was "attacked" by an unknown object that seemed to come out of the ground. The attack was both physical and telepathic. During the attack he was able to see what was happening via the other team members eyes, seemingly occupying their bodies. After a narrow escape/extraction conducted by Commander Yalu while their shuttle was sinking into the ground, they returned to the Excalibur.

Upon returning to the Excalibur after being rescued by Commander Yalu, everything seemed normal until members of the crew suddenly found themselves in swapped in one another's bodies, though their minds and memories were intact. After some speculation, it was decided to send an away team back down to the planet.

After making contact with an orb in the cave, it was discovered that the orbs were arks carrying a non-corporeal civilization, whose beings seem to communicate telepathically. After finding a way to communicate with the orbs, the creatures allow the Excalibur to help them. Shortly after returning to the Excalibur, the crew is returned to their rightful bodies and the USS Chesapeake assists in finding a new home for the aliens.

In Plain Sight

  • Stardate 239902.01 - 239904.01

The crew of the Excalibur was tasked by Starfleet Intelligence to go undercover on the planet Demes II to investigate a sudden advancement in their level of technology. After spending several weeks at play and with the help of several locals, it was discovered that the advancement was actually due to a Starfleet accident that had attempted to be covered up.

The One With All the Timezones

  • Stardate 239905.31 - 239906.30

The crew of the Excalibur is paid another visit by CloQ, who has another set of trials in store for them. The crew is split up and forced to relive various traumatic historical events. Addison's group was dropped into the Battle of Medara on Betazed during the Dominion War and encountered Dakora's mother and his younger self. Then, they were dropped in late 20th century New York where they run afoul of local law enforcement and have an encounter with CloQ, who seemed to take perverse delight in mentally torturing them. Then, they found themselves aboard the USS Oriskany where Commander Niac 'saves' his first host, potentially violating the Temporal Prime Directive - before his group were displaced aboard the fateful SS Titanic where they narrowly avoid dying.

After an encounter Commodore Nicholotti and her team, CloQ returned the senior staff to the ship at precisely the moment from which they were stolen.

The Trouble With Tacos

  • Stardate 239909.17 - 239911.30

The USS Excalibur-A is tasked with mediating a dispute involving the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Republic and the Son'a Solidarity. But mysterious malfunctions aboard the ship threaten to scupper the talks before they have even begun. Shortly before departure, someone infiltrated the ship and messed with the ship's computer before being extracted by parties unknown and assassinated. Preparations for the negotiations - and for the newly instituted "Taco Night" - were promptly derailed by an apparent spate of replicator malfunctions across the ship that render them unable to synthesize anything other tacos and fillings.

At that point, each of the ambassadors fall ill in what is discovered to be an assassination attempt on each of them, during which point the crew of the Excalibur raced to find an answer to avoid an interstellar incident.

Hide and Seek

  • Stardate 239912.30 - 240002.02

Addison receives a message from an unknown contact who claims to have information about who poisoned the delegates in the Excalibur's previous mission. She enlists the help of Talos Dakora to investigate. The two requisition an old Maquis vessel, Daisy, to check out the lead, which takes them to K-7. After following their contact, they are captured by a group of Klingons who kidnap them and torture them aboard the Daisy, while heading back to seek revenge on the Excalibur.

When the Daisy arrives, they launch a probe carrying a computer virus which disables the Excalibur. Meanwhile, Dakora and MacKenzie managed to escape the cargo container in which they were held, and make their way through the Daisy until, after receiving weapons from the Excalibur, they manage to storm the bridge and retake the ship.

USS Artemis-A

Impact

  • Stardate 234002.18 - 240004.17'

The Artemis was dispatched to the Da'al homeworld to assist with relief efforts following a meteor impact, which left approximately 10,000 Da'al dead and thousands more wounded and/or unhomed. Shortly after arriving the crew starts noticing - and then experiencing - strange behavioral modifications. The telepathic members of the crew and all of the Da'al in the immediate vicinity were impacted by particles deposited on the planet from the asteroid, which caused them to act irradically.

Drill

  • Stardate 240005.26 - 240007.19'

The crew of the Artemis splits up to engage in some friendly war games designed to test the Artemis's preparedness, with half of the crew heading up the USS Berlin under Commander Adea. The ships faced off in a mostly-simulated combat in a nearby nebula. Things were going according to plan until a group of Suliban pirates observing the battle decided to intervene and attempt to take over and/or destroy both vessels.

Both Sides Now

  • Stardate 240009.09 - 240012.01'

The crew of the Artemis found themselves against their doppelgangers from another universe, who were less technologically advanced and war-torn. After providing aid to their Shint-universe counterparts and repairing their ship, the doppelgangers tried to take over the Artemis. After repelling their assailants, the crew of the Artemis used technology from the doppelganger's crew's adversaries to send them back to the proper universe.

Background

  • Strengths: Steadfast and determined
  • Weaknesses: Sometimes blinded by own pride
  • Ambitions: Hopes to one day be the Chief of Surgery at Starfleet Medical
  • Hobbies/Interests: Horticulture, cooking, extreme sports, performing arts (plays the oboe), exploring unique cuisine, spending time with family
  • Dislikes: Addison has always been a highly motivated and ambitious individual. Performing well academically, she has always been a "by the book" person, but has needed to come up with creative solutions due to her specialty in microsurgery. As a way of releasing stress, she has been known to engage in extreme sports and dangerous recreational activities.

Relationships

  • Geoffrey Teller and Addison met on the USS Veritas in 2396 after she was assigned as one of the ship's medical officers. Since then, they have developed a close working relationship together, including co-authoring an article in the Starfleet Medical Journals. They have worked together on several medical prosthetic operations, and when Teller assumed command of the USS Diligent, he appointed Addison as his first officer.
  • Ghant Xerix and Addison met on the USS Veritas in 2396 after he was reassigned as the ship's helm officer and began a romantic relationship shortly thereafter. Their first date together coincided with the Paris bombing of 2396. The relationship continued to grow but after Xerix's decision to transfer to the Gorkon the two made a mutual decision to break up due to the distance between them.
