Background
Salkath was raised in a traditional manner on his homeworld of Vulcan. As a second child, he did not have the expectations placed on him that his older sister faced, and instead of being pressured into a scientific field of study as she had, he had the freedom to explore his mechanical and artistic aptitudes.
After receiving a diverse and well-rounded education on Vulcan, Salkath served two terms of service on a Vulcan exploratory cruiser as an engineer and medic. He found the experience satisfactory, but the limited scope of the Vulcan missions left him feeling vaguely unfulfilled. Upon the advice of a trusted mentor, Salkath considered a Starfleet career, and successfully applied for Starfleet Academy.
Unlike many Vulcans drawn to Starfleet service, Salkath did not have the early life experiences of mercantile or diplomatic exposure to the other races of the Federation to prepare him for how trying IDIC could be in practice. However, he is dedicated to finding a balance between honoring his Vulcan societal logic values and interacting successfully with others who do not necessarily follow those same ideals.
