Lael was born two minutes before her twin brother Kellan on Stardate 236610.24 to Adelynn Rosek in Cedar Springs, Michigan. She never met her father and, due to her mother's silence, knew very little about him. From a young age, Lael showed a talent for Mathematics and her curious nature led her to a passion for taking things apart to see how they worked. She spent much of her younger years in fields, studying the local wildlife, even to the point of keeping a nature journal.

As she grew older, she sought more adventurous pursuits, chief among them being sailing, cliff-diving, water skiing, rock climbing, and swimming in local ponds and lakes. When she wasn't hanging out with friends, she spent summers on her Uncle's farm doing chores and helping to care for the animals. This became a passion for her and at age 14, Lael joined her school's FFE club (Future Farmers of Earth). Needless to say, Lael's mother was determined to train Lael in lady-like arts and when Lael was 15, enrolled her daughter in finishing school course she herself taught at the local country club. Lael learned social graces, various dancing styles, and how to play the piano.

Lael was born two minutes before her twin brother Kellan on Stardate 236610.24 to Adelynn Rosek in [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cedar_Springs,_Michigan Cedar Springs, Michigan]. She never met her father and, due to her mother's silence, knew very little about him. From a young age, Lael showed a talent for mathematics and science, her curious nature leading her to a passion for taking things apart to see how they worked. She spent much of her younger years in fields, studying the local wildlife, even to the point of keeping a nature journal. This love of nature extended to the stars. Lael would often spend summer nights with her brother in her backyard studying them through a telescope. She would visit the nearby [http://www.muskegoncc.edu/mathphysical-sciences/carr-fles-planetarium/ Carr-Fles Planetarium] whenever she could.

At age 5, Lael joined her school's Daisy Girl Scout Troop and learned the importance of doing for others. It was also at this age that she first began taking [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazilian_jiu-jitsu jiu-jitsu] lessons to combat bullying at school. Though she was bullied in her younger years because her {{n|Al-Leyan}} heritage, her easy-going and compassionate nature won her many friends. She loved to sing and participated in her school's choir.

Lael began her freshman year at Cedar Springs High School on Stardate 238108.12. She was a member of her school's National Honor Society and participated in such school sports as Track, Cross Country, Basketball, and Dance. In her senior year (Stardate 2385), she was nominated for Homecoming Queen and lost by only three votes.
Though Lael had always been keenly aware of her father's absence from her life, it hit hardest around the tender age of 9 when all of her friends were attending Father-Daughter dances and she was the only one who didn't have a father to go with. One particular year at age 11, she tried to talk her mother into contacting her father to see if he'd be willing to go with her. When her mother refused, Lael was disappointed and conceded that she'd ask her Uncle Thomas to take her. <ref>[https://groups.google.com/d/msg/sb118-astraeus/dYjOst5yiQU/S7BIZ9hBAAAJ| Introspection]</ref>

The idea of Starfleet had fascinated her since she'd attended a camp there at age 14. She spent most of her adolescence dreaming of a career as a Starfleet Officer. Following her graduation from high school on Stardate 238505.25, she took the Entrance Exam and began her first day as a cadet on Stardate 238508.07 intending to follow the Command track.
By age 12, Lael's confidence blossomed and she joined her school's Student Leadership Club (SLC). Her passion for active pursuits led her to join her school's cross country team in 6th grade. Her best friend was a boy named Nicholas Swett, who she remained close with throughout elementary and middle school. He was her first kiss at the tender age of seven. She’d dropped her sandwich at lunch wrestling with a boy named Blake Thomas for pulling her hair. She’d cried at first until Nicholas presented her with half of his and she'd pecked him on the lips to thank him.

'''Notable Relationships'''
{{Frame|Mackinac Island.JPG|150px|CAPTION='''Mackinac Island, Michigan'''|FLOAT=left}}
* Kellan Rosek: Despite having many friends, her twin brother was always her greatest ally and her strongest advocate. To this day, they are quite close and communicate often. He often comes to her for relationship advice and she, in return, leans on him in times of emotional difficulty.
{{Frame|TheRavenrowboat.jpg|100px|CAPTION='''The Raven''', Lael's first major construction project.|FLOAT=right}}
* Adelynn Rosek: Lael's relationship with her mother is extremely strained due to her mother's high, and at times, unreasonable expectations of her.
As is typical for most young children, Lael had a vivid imagination and her play often involved fantastical adventures. One place, in particular, inspired many adventures: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mackinac_Island Mackinac Island], north of Muskegon, Michigan. She, her twin brother, and their friends would swim and explore the shores of the little island. On rare occasions, when her mother was planetside, they'd enjoy meals at the Mission Point Resort restaurant. Heaters would be set up on the outside patio to counteract the cold breezes coming in from the lake and the three would enjoy delicious mugs of rich hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmellows.
* Thomas DeMarcus: Lael had a close relationship with her uncle spending many of her summers until she turned 15 on his farm helping him care for the animals.
* Louise Rosek-DeMarcus: Lael view's her Aunt Louise as "the fun aunt" and enjoys time in her company.

One summer, Lael put her building skills to use and constructed a boat, ''The Raven'', for her and Kellan to take out on Lake Michigan. Having read about old Earth maritime traditions, she insisted on christening her new craft. Unable to obtain champagne on her own, she snuck into her Aunt's cabinet and retrieved a very expensive bottle. When her Aunt found out, she was furious. Lael spent the next month raking out the horse stalls to pay it back. <ref>[https://groups.google.com/d/msg/sb118-chintoka/xQfAs3pLlkg/MeVQARU5AwAJ He Who Is Faithful In A Very Little Thing]</ref>

As she grew older, she sought more adventurous pursuits, chief among them sailing, cliff-diving, water skiing, rock climbing, and swimming in local ponds and lakes. When she wasn't hanging out with friends, she spent summers on her Uncle's farm doing chores and helping to care for the animals. She became skilled at riding horses and participated in several riding competitions as a young teen, winning second place in her first and second competitions and first place in her third competition. She also participated in her town's cattle roping event the year she turned 13. Animals became a passion for her and that same year, Lael joined her school's Future Farmers of Earth (FFE) club. At the Kent County Fair, she was awarded the Division 1 (grades 7-8) Agriscience Fair Award and also took home the second-place award for Outstanding Junior. Outside of her agricultural science interests, she loved sports and joined her school's girls' basketball team as a starting power forward. Her athletic talent helped her lead her team to the State Championships, where they unfortunately lost by three points. Lael was disappointed by the loss but continued to play basketball.

Lael's mother was determined to train Lael in the feminine arts and when Lael was 15, Adelynn enrolled Lael in finishing school course she herself taught at the local country club. Lael learned social graces, various dancing styles, and how to play the piano. During the course, Lael became friends with a fellow classmate, Molly Dalinton, "who professed to hate it as much as she did". <ref>[https://groups.google.com/g/sb118-chintoka/c/TOD2CJHhcII/m/wCN2mS_LAQAJ Surreal Conversations, Part I]</ref> The two would make faces and mock Adelynn's every move when her back was turned. <!--Lael later attended her debutante ball, a tradition from a  bygone era where young women were presented to society. She attended hers with "the hottest guy in her class" as her date. Her mother bought her a dress that made her look "like a walking marshmallow", but at the last minute, Lael went to the mall and purchased something "more sensible". <ref>[Link A Favor]</ref>-->

===='''''Lael's First Year at the Academy'''''====
She was very active in both sports and clubs in high school. She was well-liked by almost everyone and always looked for ways to help others. She excelled academically and was a member of her school's National Honor Society. She participated in such school sports as Track, Cross Country, Basketball, Competitive Cheer, and Dance.

While Lael did well academically, the holovideos and graphic descriptions of torture caused her nightmares and PTSD to the point that she very nearly developed a split personality. She was dropped from the Command track and ordered to undergo counseling. Lael almost quit the Academy to go in search of her biological father, but her twin convinced her to pursue her true passion: fixing and build things.
During her freshman year, she sang in the choir, performing a solo at the final concert that year. As a sophomore and a junior, she was an active member of her school's Athletic Leadership Club (ALC). It was during this time that she acknowledged her attraction to both men and women, becoming a member of the Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA). The summer following her sophomore year, she spent a good deal of time on Lake Huron with then-girlfriend Angie Reed, learning how to sail from Angie's brother, Joel. <ref>[https://groups.google.com/g/sb118-chintoka/c/Wws5ZJRA9is/m/HuzcD_J3AQAJ Anchors Aweigh]</ref>

===='''''Lael's Second and Third Years at the Academy'''''====
As a senior, she developed a brash streak and used her exceptional intellect and talent in mathematics to hustle billiards games. With a fake ID supplied by her friend Aiden, she entered bars and earned herself a number of enemies. On one occasion, her competition found her out and was threatening bodily harm until the bar owner stepped in. She was elected Class President and nominated for Homecoming Queen and lost by only three votes. She graduated Magna Cum Laude and was chosen as valedictorian of her high school class.

Her second year at the Academy, Lael began studying Communications/Operations, Engineering, and Physics. During her second year at the Academy, Lael began dating Ivina Genestra, a Betazoid scientist who was studying on Earth. The two were together for almost a year before they mutually decided that, though there was an attraction between them, they just didn't feel that way about each other. Heartbroken, Lael went rock climbing with her friends that summer to get her mind off the break-up. However, she had an accident that resulted in a severe spinal injury that paralyzed her. She was told she'd never walk again.
The idea of Starfleet had fascinated her since she attended a camp there at age 14. She spent most of her adolescence dreaming of a career as a Starfleet Officer. Prior to her high school graduation, she took the Entrance Exam. She was accepted and began her first day as a cadet on Stardate 238508.07 set on following the Command track.

About a month following the accident, she was contacted by Doctor Gibbons. He was experimenting with the use of nanotechnology to treat otherwise untreatable spinal conditions. The procedure was highly controversial and hadn't yet been approved for Humanoid testing. Despite the risks, Lael agreed to be the first Humanoid subject to receive the procedure. Following the procedure, Lael completed extensive physical therapy to regain her mobility. It was during this time that she met {{n|Elina Kincade}}, who supervised her care and therapy. Through Elina, Lael also became friends with {{n|Rebecca Hollendale}} and with {{n|Dassa Alexander}}, one of Elina's students and an aspiring Starfleet medical officer. Prior to the beginning of her third year, Lael had an intimate liaison with Dassa, leaving the two permanently connected via an unintentionally-formed psionic bond.
====='''Notable Relationships'''=====

* '''Kellan Rosek:''' Despite having many friends, her twin brother was always her greatest ally and her strongest advocate. To this day, they are quite close and communicate often. He often comes to her for relationship advice and she, in return, leans on him in times of emotional difficulty.
As Doctor Gibbons had promised, Lael passed all of her Academy physicals with flying colors and she started classes again in the spring following her accident with no one but her, the doctor, her mother and brother the wiser as to how she'd managed to recover. The nanotechnology offered the added benefit of increasing her already beyond-Human agility and strength as well as marginally increasing her senses; in particular, her sense of smell.
* '''Adelynn Rosek:''' Lael's relationship with her mother is extremely strained due to her mother's high, and at times, unreasonable expectations of her.

* '''Thomas DeMarcus:''' Lael had a close relationship with her uncle spending many of her summers until she turned 15 on his farm helping him care for the animals.
===='''''Lael's Fourth Year at the Academy'''''====
* '''Louise Rosek-DeMarcus:''' Lael view's her Aunt Louise as "the fun aunt" and enjoys time in her company.

[[File:Lael7.jpg|thumb|200px|right|Elopement to Jensar.]] At the beginning of her fourth year during her Engineering Apprentice internship aboard [[StarBase_118_Ops|Starbase 118]], she met Jensar Berel. The two had a passionate relationship. Halfway through the first year of her internship, six months following their meeting, the two eloped on {{n|Risa}}. Neither of their families were happy about the marriage. Six months into their marriage, Jensar's older brother was assassinated, forcing him to return home to fill his brother's role on the {{n|Betazed}} council. Jensar tried to convince Lael to come with him, but she wasn't willing to give up the Starfleet career that she'd fought so hard to keep. Her dreams were in the stars. Lael was devastated and jumped into a rebound sexual relationship two months with an unjoined {{n|Trill}} woman, Alva Tigan. But this relationship inevitably ended when Alva was selected for Joining.

===='''''Lael's Cadet Cruise'''''====

Lael finished her internship in January 2391, then completed her cadet cruise aboard the {{USS|Centris|A}} and graduated with a double major in Helm/Communications/Operations and Engineering as well as a minor in Physics.

<CENTER>'''POST-ACADEMY AWARDS & COMMENDATIONS'''</CENTER>
On her first day of classes, Lael struggled to find her way around campus. Along the walkway headed toward her Birth of the Federation class, Lael literally ran into Ivina Genestra, a Betazoid scientist studying on Earth. The woman had been on her way to meet up with a friend, who was an Associate Professor in the Academy's Xenobiology department. The Betazoid took the whole incident in stride, even offering to help Lael find her first class. An attraction existed between the two from the moment they met and they were always flirting. Lael finally found the courage to ask Ivina out and was surprised when the older woman said yes. Through Ivina, Lael meet friends Michael Zola and Aidia Carter. The four friends spent weekday evenings enjoying Michael's legendary cooking skills and talking about the latest science and engineering developments, going out to bars and dance clubs on the weekends.

During her first year, Lael did well academically, but the holovideos and graphic descriptions of torture caused nightmares and PTSD to the point that she very nearly developed a split personality. As a result, she was dropped from the Command track, and ordered to undergo mandatory medical check-ups and weekly counseling. ===='''''Year Two'''''====
During her second year at the Academy, Lael began studying Communications/Operations, Engineering, and Physics. She did well in most of her classes, but the most memorable for her was her Engineering class during her first semester. The instructor for that class preferred teaching through experiences and she enjoyed the challenge immensely. While most in her class complained about his unconventional teaching style, she came to respect him for it. Seeing how the simulations he threw out barely fazed her, he made it a personal mission to come up with a scenario even she couldn't solve. In the end, he wrote a letter of recommendation that secured Lael's place on the {{USS|Victory}} following her graduation. <ref> [https://groups.google.com/d/msg/sb118-chintoka/jVDg9EQdgh8/QgXzqToyBAAJ System Reboot]</ref>

At the end of her second year, Lael experienced disappointment when her first serious relationship of two years with girlfriend Ivina Genestra ended, albeit by mutual agreement. Though there was an attraction between them, they didn't feel anything for one another beyond friendship. Heartbroken, Lael went rock climbing with her friends that summer to get her mind off the break-up. However, due to her distraction and the foolish choices made by her climbing partner, she fell, resulting in a severe spinal injury that paralyzed her. She was told she'd never walk again.

===='''''SCOURGE OF ROMULUS'''''====
===='''''Year Three'''''====
About a month following the accident, she was contacted by Doctor Gibbons.

Lael joined the crew shortly following the [[What_Happened_At_Luxis_III_(Victory)|Luxis III]] mission. She played a role in repairs to the damaged vessel until the crew was temporarily re-assigned to the [https://wiki.starbase118.net/wiki/index.php/USS_Achilles| USS Achilles] while the Victory was in port for repair and refit. The ''Achilles'' was sent to work with the {{n|Romulan Republic}} in hunting down missing vials of the [[Skyfire Cure|Skyfire Virus]]. During the course of the mission, Ensign {{n|Janel Tarna}} noticed a suspicious-looking female carrying what he thought to be the missing vials in a box and immediately gave chase when the woman ran. Lael went after Janel to offer back-up. However, she found herself caught in a firefight and was kidnapped in the chaos that ensued.
As Doctor Gibbons had promised, Lael passed all of her Academy physicals with flying colors, the nanotechnology offering the added benefit of increasing her already beyond-Human agility and strength as well as marginally increasing her senses; in particular, her sense of smell. She started classes again in the spring following her accident and moved into an apartment off campus with friends [[Dassa Alexander|Dassa]] and [[Elina Kincade|Elina]]. The three friends lived together until Lael left for Starbase 118 to begin her Engineering internship at the beginning of what would have been her fourth year.

She awoke to find herself in a shuttle with her captors. Despite her fear, she taunted her captors, refusing to provide them with the information they were seeking. Lael and Janel were held in an unknown facility and tortured for three days by {{n|Sicarius}}. It was later discovered that part of that torture was a drug that enhanced the emotions of its victims, administered on the first day of their captivity. This resulted in a strong sexual attraction between the pair. While Lael and Janel were attempting to escape, Janel took a severe beating which led to a head injury and Lael took a Romulan knife to her right side while attempting to stop the Romulan from claiming Janel's life. They were later rescued by Lieutenant {{n|Tarsii Asmara}} and his team.  After the team recovered the vials, Janel was rushed back to the ''Achilles'', where he underwent surgery and care for his injuries.  Even after the drug was out of her system, Lael found that her attraction to Janel hadn't faded. She stayed by Janel's side during and following his recovery.

===='''''AFTERMATH'''''====
{{Frame|Lael's_Cross.png|125px|CAPTION='''Lael's graduation gift from her grandfather, Adric.'''|FLOAT=left}}

Lael was called to the Captain’s Ready Room, where Nugra commended her on her actions. During this meeting, she requested and was granted a transfer to Helm/Comm/Ops. During the awards ceremony, she was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade and awarded the [[Prisoner of War Ribbon]], the [[Silver Lifesaving Ribbon]], and a [[Purple Heart]]. She later discovered that Janel wasn’t present at the awards ceremony because he had gone AWOL. Consumed by a desire to become a host to a symbiont, he had defied doctor’s orders and piloted a lone shuttlecraft to {{ma|Trillius Prime}}, desperate to make it back in time. Upon his forced return, Lael visited him in his quarters and learned that he had been rejected by the {{ma|Symbiosis Commission}} and his family had disowned him. Neither he nor their blossoming relationship were the same after that. She then underwent counseling for her time in captivity (aka the Temlai incident). <ref>[[SIM:Lael_Rosek_-_In_So_Many_Words,_Part_I_(Victory)|In So Many Words, Part I]]</ref><ref>[[SIM:Lael_Rosek_-_In_So_Many_Words,_Part_II_(Victory)|In So Many Words Part II]]</ref><ref>[[SIM:Lael_Rosek_-_In_So_Many_Words,_Part_III_(Victory)|In So Many Words Part III]]</ref><ref>[[SIM:Lael_Rosek_-_In_So_Many_Words,_Part_IV_(Victory)|In So Many Words Part IV]]</ref>
In her fourth year while completing her Engineering internship aboard [[StarBase_118_Ops|Starbase 118]], she met Jensar Berel. The two had a passionate relationship. Six months following their meeting, the two eloped on {{n|Risa}}. Neither of their families were supportive of the marriage. Lael was devastated and jumped into a rebound sexual relationship with an unjoined {{n|Trill}} woman, Alva Tigan. But this relationship inevitably ended when Alva was selected for Joining.

Lael finished her internship in January 2391, then completed her cadet cruise aboard the {{USS|Centris|A}} and graduated with a double major in [[Academy_Majors_and_Minors/Engineering|Engineering]] and [[Academy_Majors_and_Minors/HCO|Helm/Communications/Operations]] as well as a minor in Physics. Her maternal grandfather, Adric, was always supportive of her Starfleet aspirations and gave her a special cross upon her graduation to reward her efforts. He unfortunately passed shortly after her graduation, the sudden loss devastating Lael. She'd never really been that close with her maternal grandmother and contact with her all but ceased after Adric's death.

* '''Ivina Genestra:''' Despite their chemistry, Lael realized that she loved Ivina, but wasn’t in love with her. They’re now friends.
* '''Aidia Carter:''' The two were in a couple of classes together and met through Ivina.
* '''Michael Zola:''' The two met at the Academy and would often go rock climbing together. He was killed in the same rock climbing accident that paralyzed Lael.
* '''{{n|Elina Kincade}}:''' She and Lael met at Starfleet Medical when she was helping Lael with her physical therapy and recovery. The two have been close ever since with Elina becoming a strong female role model for Lael.
* '''{{n|Rebecca Hollendale}}:''' Lael and Rebecca met through Elina. Though the two often disagree on certain issues, they're good friends nonetheless.
* '''{{n|Dassa Alexander-Dalton}}:''' The two met through Lael's friend, Elina Kincade, and had a one-night stand that resulted in a psionic bond. The two remain friends and have served on multiple ships together. Dassa has provided emotional support and a steady, loyal presence in Lael's life even when they were lightyears apart.
* '''Jensar Berel:''' She and Jensar were together for six months before they eloped despite protests from both families. They were married for six months until they chose to divorce when Jensar’s older brother died and he was forced to return to Betazed to take his brother’s post with the Council.
* '''Alva Tigan:''' Lael’s relationship with Alva was purely sexual and lasted for a period of six months.
* '''{{n|Orson Marshall}}''': The two met during Lael's Engineering internship aboard [[Starbase 118]]. After a fight with a Klingon who'd spilled her drink and refused to pay for it, she shared her victory drinks with Bear. Both single and unattached, they engaged in a flirtation that turned into what Lael intended to be a one night stand. <ref>[https://groups.google.com/d/msg/sb118-montreal/WWkhd0Xg4os/5KmwH8CFBgAJ| Scars]] </ref> But the chemistry between them was undeniable and the two kept in touch, meeting up when time allowed, resulting in a series of one night stands. Ironically, the two had a good deal in common and became good friends.

Following the awards ceremony and shoreleave, the ''Victory'' was again underway. Once out of dock, {{n|Harrington James}}, a space pirate and captain of the SS ''{{n|Lady Adventure}}'', contacted the ''Victory'' and provided Captain {{n|Nugra}} with the coordinates to a Starfleet vessel, the ''USS Arrow'', an Archer-class vessel lost in the early 23rd century. James came across the distress signal from the vessel and decided to pass the information along. Nugra pursued the lead and had Lael set a course to retrieve the ship. Upon arriving, Nugra assigned away teams to investigate. However, due to minerals in a nearby asteroid field that were confusing sensors, the teams were forced to use shuttlecraft out of concern that the same minerals would interfere with the transporter signal. Lael picked up some strange readings but couldn't get an accurate scan due to the interference from a nearby nebula. Though the readings weren't clear, the pattern indicated it might be another ship.
{{LCARS-bar-left|POST-ACADEMY: {{USS|Victory}}|100|COLOR=maroon}}
{{Frame|Rosek.jpg|150px|CAPTION='''Lael aboard the {{USS|Victory}} (2392).'''|FLOAT=left}}

Once the away teams were on board the ''Arrow'', the readings grew stronger and became more clear as the vessel approached and made contact with the ''Victory'', stating that the Federation ship was in {{n|Tholians}} space and must leave immediately. However, they could leave until they had retrieved the away team. With the clock ticking and sensors limited, Lael and the Asmara work to find a way through the faraday field preventing them from rescuing the stranded away teams. The two were able to work a solution that used the Veritas orbs, lining them up to create a subspace relay of sorts, allowing them to extend their sensor range and target an asteroid. This would create a hole large enough in the field for the ''Victory'' to fit through.
Upon graduating on Stardate 239202, Lael was assigned as an Engineering Officer aboard the {{USS|Victory}} and arrived aboard just after the ship had been severely damaged by the events at [[What_Happened_At_Luxis_III_(Victory)|Luxis II]]. Her first tasks as a green ensign were focused on repairing the damage to the ship.

However, before the plan could be implemented, the enemy ship attacked with {{n|Tholians}} webs that caused radiation leaks on Decks 5, 6, & 7. Lael reported to help evacuate the affected decks and treat the evacuated crewmembers. She donned an environmental suit and met Janel and {{n|Danny Wilde}} on Deck 5. Lael used the Jeffries Tubes to travel down to Deck 7 to find anyone left behind, then work her way up. While on Deck 7, she set up a containment field so the leak didn't reach the lower decks. During the course of her search, she came across {{n|Michael Goodwell}}, a suited up security Ensign who aided her in her search. They brought a few groups back to be inoculated.
Before the repairs could be completed, Captain [[Nugra]] and the crew were given new orders that resulted in them temporarily being assigned to the {{USS|Achilles}} with the mission of hunting down a missing vial of the [[Skyfire Cure|Skyfire Virus]] in conjunction with the [[Romulan Republic]]. However, the mission didn't go as planned and while chasing a young woman her colleague, Ensign [[Janel Tarna]] suspected of having the missing vial, both she and [[Janel Tarna|Tarna]] were captured and tortured by an organization called [[Sicarius]]. The two were eventually rescued, but not before both received severe injuries with [[Janel Tarna|Tarna]]'s being life threatening. After retrieving the vial, they returned to the ''Achilles'' for treatment and counseling.

Leaving Goodwell behind to wait for the next group, Lael went back down alone to check the remaining sections. However, she experienced hallucinations and passed out. When she awakened, she realized that her environmental suit was ripped and that the hallucinations were most likely caused by radiation exposure. She was able to seal the crack in her suit with duct tape, but she had already been exposed. She hurried to finish her search and report back for inoculation. By the time Lael got the last small group back to the meeting point, the {{n|Tholians}} had taken over Sickbay. Working with Goodwell, she inoculated everyone, hoping to delay onset for the less severe cases. Goodwell inoculated her, but she had a severe reaction to the inoculation and began seizing.
After a well-earned shoreleave, the crew of the ''Victory'' returned to their ship. Once out of dry dock, they encountered Captain [[Harrington James]] of the ''SS Lady Adventure'' who shared information about the ''USS Arrow'', a ship that had been lost in the 23rd century. While the away team was aboard the lost ship investigating, the ''Victory'' encountered a group of hostile [[Tholians]] who demanded the ''Victory'' leave their space, forcing the crew to work quickly to retrieve the stranded away team. The [[Tholians]] attacked with webs and caused radiation leaks on decks 5-7. Lael was a part of the team that evacuated those decks, first getting sick from the radiation and then seizing from an allergy to the inoculation. She was treated in Sickbay and made a full recovery.

{{LCARS-bar-nolink|POST-ACADEMY: {{USS|Gorkon}}|100|COLOR=maroon}}

After the away teams returned safely to the ''Victory'', the {{n|Tholians}} left abruptly and the ''Victory'' managed to use a tractor beam to tow the ''Arrow'' back to drydock. When Lael awakened, Janel filled her in on what happened. She then joked about how they haven't had a real first date and the two briefly discussed the possibilities before she placed calls to her worried mother and brother. She and Janel attended the awards ceremony together. She was awarded a {{n|Medical Science Ribbon}} for her part in rescuing and inoculating the crew. Following the presentation of the awards, Janel revealed to Lael that he had been transferred to the {{n|USS Darwin-A}}. While Lael was saddened by the news, she was determined that they would make the relationship work. When shoreleave was over, she reported for her new assignment, Helm/Comm/Ops aboard the {{n|USS Gorkon}}.
{{Frame|Lael Rosek.png|150px|CAPTION='''Lael aboard the {{USS|Gorkon}} (2392).'''|FLOAT=right}}

Following the decommissioning of the ''Victory'' on Stardate 239207.17, Lael transferred to the {{USS|Gorkon}}. While adjusting to life aboard her new ship assignment, Lael experienced lingering nightmares from the [[The_Spider%27s_Web_(Victory)|Tholian incident]] and went to Sickbay, where she met Doctor [[Jansen Orrey]], who she felt an instant attraction to.

'''Notable Relationships'''
Shoreleave soon wrapped up and the ''Gorkon'' crew responded to a distress call from the ''USS Tharsis'', which was caught in a gravity well. Lael beamed over with a team led by Commander [[Chen]] in an attempt to free the trapped ship and save the crew. Little did the away teams know a flying creature had accidentally been set loose that bit the crew, causing them to hallucinate and become violent. While trying to escape those hunting them, Commander [[Chen]] was rendered unconscious by a phaser blast, forcing the remaining members of the team to carry him to safety. While the away teams and some of the ''Tharsis'' crew were safely retrieved, the ''Tharsis'' and all remaining hands were lost when the gravity well tore the ship apart.

* {{n|Janel Tarna}}: Lael and Janel developed feelings for one another while both were held captive and tortured. They dated for a period even after Janel was transferred, but mutually ended the relationship due to the distance.
Following the ''Tharsis'' mission, the crew was prepared for the awards dinner, a masquerade theme set on Astrofori One's Holodeck 666 in a creepy Victorian mansion. But they soon found themselves in the midst of a very real murder mystery when the body of the deceased Cardassian envoy, Kotan Jara, was discovered in the library and attempts to shut down the program led them to realize they were trapped in the simulation. They began their search for clues and the culprit, leading them to a creepy basement with remnants of what they suspected to be blood. Lael and [[Jansen Orrey|Jansen]] were then separated from the group when [[Jansen Orrey|Jansen]] accidentally triggered a trap door. They tumbled down into an underground labyrinth and searching for a way back to their team. As they went, they found evidence that someone had been living there and that the holodeck systems were failing. At last, they escaped and rejoined their team only to find that Commander [[Walter Brunsig|Walter Brunsig]] had been shot by a bullet meant for Captain [[Quinn Reynolds|Reynolds]]. When they moved him back to the mansion, they found Commander [[Alucard Vess|Vess]] wounded as well. Once they had successfully found a way to deactivate the program, both men were beamed to Sickbay for further treatment.
* {{n|Tarsii Asmara}}: Though the two only served together briefly, she came to highly respect his intelligence and his dedication to his duty.
* {{n|Nugra}}: Despite her initial hesitation, she came to highly respect him as a commanding officer and as a colleague. She enjoyed working with him and was sad to see him step down from command of the ''Victory''.

'''Full Timeline'''
After the mission, while being treated in Sickbay, Lael asked after [[Walter Brunsig|Brunsig]]. Once she was cleared, she returned to her quarters to catch up with her friends and her brother. In pain and scared, Lael finally confessed to [[Jansen Orrey|Jansen]] the complications with her spinal injury and he offered his help. The day after, they went on their first date on the holodeck.

'''Mission Logs'''
With shoreleaave over, it was back to work. What started as a standard mission scanning a nebula soon turned disastrous as some unusual readings led to them being pulled into an alternate universe ruled by the Dominion where the Federation didn't exist and its former officers were hunted by Dominion solders and loyalists. They spent months on the run, keeping a low profile as they repaired the damaged Gorkon and returned to their own universe. They were led by a man named Connor Lucas to a group of Romulans who offered the parts they needed in exchange for the rescue of a Romulan crew taken prisoner by [[Erik Jansen|Erik Jansen]], [[Alucard Vess|Vess]]'s evil alternate universe counterpart. The team managed to lie their way aboard [[DSX|Deep Space Ten]] where the prisoners were being held and they split into two groups to locate the prisoners. Once their mission had been completed, they returned to the ''Gorkon'' aboard Lucas's shuttle, but Lael was injured in the process, the intense pain of her spinal injury, exacerbated by a collision with a bulkhead, had caused her to pass out. She was taken to the ''Gorkon'''s sickbay for treatment.

About a month after the DSX incident, she encountered [[Chythar Skyfire|Chythar Skyfire]] in the Sto'vo'kor Lounge and, despite resenting him for the pain the Skyfire Virus and subsequent [[Skyfire Cure]] had brought into her life, the two quickly became friends. Not long after, the crew found a way home via a Romulan deflector array used to open another fissure like the one they'd been pulled through months ago and managed to evade [[Erik Jansen|Erik Jansen]]'s ships to find the {{USS|Yahrala}}, under the command of Commander [[Walter Brunsig|Brunsig]] waiting on the other side to tow them back to Earth.

Section Under Construction
Shortly after her spinal replacement surgery, Lael followed her transfer orders with her friends [[Dassa Alexander|Dassa]] and [[Chythar Skyfire|Chythar]] to the {{USS|Za}} where [[Alex Blair|Alex]] was already waiting. Not long after her arrival, she reported for her first duty shift on the bridge where she was a part of the first contact with a bear-like race called the [[Hocktin]]. Lael was assigned to [[Alex Blair|Alex]]'s team to help with setting up a ship to ship network to exchange information. However, the mission quickly went sour when a crewmember was bitten by a flea-like creature and was exposed to a deadly virus.

===='''''AFTERMATH, CONT'D.'''''====
To make matters worse, Lael and [[Alex Blair|Alex]] were bitten while aboard the [[Hocktin]] vessel, and Captain [[Keelah Rhani|Rhani]] her team were taken hostage by a militaristic faction. The situation was further exacerbated when [[Hocktin]] scientist Professor Mindor beamed aboard without following proper quarantine procedures and exposed the whole ship to the virus. Lael and [[Alex Blair|Alex]] learned that the Captain had been taken and had to they fight against time to get a blood sample from the immune [[Hocktin]] to save the crew and locate the Captain before the disease reached its final stage. The energy they expended in their efforts took a severe toll on them both and they barely returned to the ''Za'' in time to receive the cure the Medical team had synthesized.

After settling into her new quarters, Lael went to the observation lounge for a drink and encountered Adam Haase there. They engaged in a brief conversation before the two parted ways to get some rest. The next day, Lael checked in with Captain Reynolds and is asked to analyze the security footage with Danny Wilde from "The Spider's Web" incident, resulting in suspicions that the Tal'Shiar is behind the recording device found. They made little real progress and with the party drawing near, Danny insisted Lael go enjoy herself. Lael then promised to help him in the morning if he didn't find anything. At the ceremony, she was awarded the Medical Science Ribbon for her part in rescuing the trapped crew.
Lael transferred to the {{USS|Veritas}} on Stardate 239407.07 after the decommissioning of the {{USS|Za}}. When she, [[Chythar Skyfire|Chythar]], and [[Alex Blair|Alex]] beamed down to New Macau, the [[Antor II]] capital, they were shocked at the devastation they found. When they beamed aboard the ''Veritas'', they checked in with Captain [[Roshanara Rahman]] where they learned that rifts in space had caused disastrous earthquakes that had damaged many of the planet's dome environments and made them uninhabitable on top of leaving many people dead.

During this time, Lael began to experience nightmares and contacted her friend, Elina, for reassurance. Lael admitted that she was having trouble coming to terms with them. After a heart to heart, Lael decided to head to Sickbay for a sedative. Doctor Jansen Orrey, who she'd met checking in on the bridge, was on duty. The two engaged in a brief conversation with Orrey offering her tea and a listening ear. To her surprise, she found that he was very easy to talk to. He gave her the sedative she came seeking and offered a friendly ear should she ever need one.
Lael was assigned to work with [[Alex Blair|Alex]] and [[Luna Walker]], the ''Veritas'' Chief Engineer, to repair the domes. While they determined a more sustainable, longer term solution, they beamed down to establish temporary housing in some old mines that would protect the inhabitants from dangerous levels of tetryon radiation. However, they became caught in a cave-in. While Lael and [[Alex Blair|Alex]] escaped unharmed, [[Luna Walker|Luna]] and [[Anjar Thoran]] became trapped.

Just before the next mission, she received a communique from Janel updating her on what had been going on with him. She responded in kind, attaching a holoimage for him to keep of her.
Lael, [[Alex Blair|Alex]] and the Search and Rescue (SAR) Team led by Commander [[Kelrod]] and Lieutenant, Junior Grade [[Carter Greyson]] worked desperately to free the two trapped officers. At last, they were able to safely retrieve [[Luna Walker|Luna]] and [[Anjar Thoran|Anjar]] and transport them to Sickbay to be treated for their injuries.

===='''''A SINKING SHIP'''''====
{{LCARS-bar-left|POST-ACADEMY: {{USS|Montreal}}|100|COLOR=maroon}}
{{Frame|RosekFirstOfficer.png|150px|CAPTION='''Lael aboard the {{USS|Montreal}} (2396).'''|FLOAT=left}}

The Gorkon crew received a distress call from the USS ''Tharsis'' and learned that it was caught in a gravity well. Enroute to the location of the ship, Captain {{n|Quinn Reynolds}} assigned Commander {{n|Chen}} to lead an away team consisting of Lael, {{n|Cory Stoyer}}, and {{n|Bren}}. The team beamed aboard the ''Tharsis'', which was strangely quiet and seemingly abandoned. This made Lael very nervous. They began running diagnostics in an attempt to find out what happened when Lael heard someone moving on the upper catwalks. Chen climbed a nearby ladder, encouraging the others to cut off the man's escape route. When they finally cornered the man they realized that he was gravely injured and in need of immediate medical attention. However, when Chen tried to contact the ''Gorkon'' and the other away team for help, they realized that their combadges weren't working.
The ''Veritas'' was scheduled to meet with the ''Montreal'' to transfer Lieutenant Commander [[Sky Blake]]. However, the vessel arrived early at the rendezvous badly damaged with Commander Zhou Tai-Sheng seriously injured. Lael was ordered to gather a team to aid with repairs and Commander [[Mei'konda]], unknown to Lael, was instructed to take command of the vessel. <ref>[https://groups.google.com/d/msg/sb118-veritas/xgrfM3u-238/GO2ncIFqAgAJ| A Different Kind of Responsibility]</ref> Not long afterward, [[Mei'konda]] invited Lael to his ready room and offered her the position of first officer.<ref>[https://groups.google.com/d/msg/sb118-montreal/xHDv1PQYX8Q/0gy1n8vOCAAJ| An Offer Too Tempting To Refuse]</ref>

With limited options, Lael and Stoyer disagreed about how to proceed. Lael felt they needed to focus on the injured man, believing he might be able to tell them more about what happened. Stoyer felt that they needed to locate the spare parts in the storage bays to salvage the ship. In the end, Chen decided they'd take the man to Sickbay and hopefully locate the parts they need on the way. Lael and Stoyer worked together to jury-rig a travois, a form of stretcher, to move the man. A strange malfunction threatening a warp core breach threatened to box them in and the anomalies begin to tear Engineering apart. They had to escape. Once they had the man loaded up, they escaped into a maintenance conduit with Lael pulling the travois and Bren covering the rear.
Their first mission as a crew was one of the more memorable ones of her career. News reached her in the ''Montreal''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s Engineering from Commander [[Mei'konda]] that the Tholians had destroyed [[Astrofori One]], a rather large Federation outpost. It stunned her that the Tholians would do something so bold and brazen. She ordered Lieutenant [[Anjar Thoran|Thoran]] to take a team down to the torpedo launchers and help load them since their autoload was still offline. Before heading to the bridge, she gave Ensign [[Jacob Harkrow]] an encouraging pep talk. <ref>[https://groups.google.com/d/msg/sb118-montreal/q7JfqtAhOoY/YIaafpkfAwAJ| A New Perspective]</ref>

They soon ran into a problem: a forcefield blocked their path. Though she offered to disable the forcefield, Chen was concerned it will take too much time so they forged ahead, going around it. They left the dying man behind, much to her dismay, and crossed the corridor one at a time, the others laying down cover fire. However, they soon ran into another forcefield and she began to feel like "a rat trapped in a maze". Stoyer, agreeing that all the running was getting them nowhere, offered to draw out their attackers using himself as bait. Lael was reluctant, concerned that he'll be an easy target, and offered to cover him.
Once she arrived on the bridge, she took her place at Commander [[Mei’konda]]’s side. Not long after she sat down, Lieutenant [[German Galven]] detected a temporal rift. Concerned, Lael instructed Ensign [[Mesda Chatva]] to keep them well away so they didn’t get pulled in like the ‘’Gorkon’’ had during one of their missions. <ref>[https://groups.google.com/d/msg/sb118-montreal/QT_mBWIoOGA/cGa5PICuBAAJ| Sneaky, Sneaky]</ref><ref> Reference to the Gorkon missions, [[Annus Horribilis (Gorkon)| Annus Horribilis]] & [[Annus Horribilis, Part 2 (Gorkon)| Annus Horribilis, Part 2]]</ref> Commander [[Mei'konda]] contacted the ''Veritas'' to warn them about the rift as well as to advise that Tholians were closing in on their position. Once the comm was cut, he ordered helmsman Ensign [[Mesda Chatva|Chatva]] to move them toward the ''Veritas''. Once they were in range, Lieutenant [[German Galven|Galven]] and Ensign [[Esbrun Vardai]] began to work on closing the rift.

But Chen vetoed the idea and instead instructed Lael to disable the forcefield. Chen, meanwhile, set Stoyer's phaser to explode in an attempt to distract their pursuers. It did the job and left Lael's ears ringing from the volume of the blast. She and Stoyer got to work cutting power. In frustration, Stoyer smashed the boxes. Taking a cue from him, Lael did the same with the box she was working on, much to the amusement of Chen and the other two. They then headed for the storage bays, hoping to find the parts to fix the ship. When they next stopped, Lael thinks she's figured out how their pursuers are tracking them and how they can counter the system.
With that done, the crew then turned their attention to locating the Tholian ships. Ensign [[Esbrun Vardai|Vardai]] reported three Meshweaver class frigates. Not long after they'd visually confirmed the presence of the ships, Tholian Commander Taroka hailed the ''Montreal'' and demanded their immediate surrender. When Commander [[Mei'konda]] didn't comply with the Tholian Commander's demand, the Tholian vessel opened fire, forcing the ''Montreal'' to defend themselves. <ref>[https://groups.google.com/d/msg/sb118-montreal/dbbD4ZHi3h4/E0zLEKycBQAJ| Teamwork]</ref> Commander [[Tal Tel-ar|Tel-ar]] was successful in damaging and driving off one of the Tholian ships, leaving two for them to deal with. Both Lieutenant [[German Galven|Galven]] and Ensign [[Esbrun Vardai|Vardai]] had possible options for disabling the ships. After weighing the risks of both plans, Commander [[Mei'konda]] ordered them to proceed with Ensign [[Esbrun Vardai|Vardai]]'s plan to use a reverse tractor beam to set off the [[Tholian]]s' torpedos, therefore disabling both ships. In the end, the ship closest to them was destroyed and the second ship was disabled. The battle won, the ''Montreal'' rejoined the ''Veritas''. <ref>[https://groups.google.com/d/msg/sb118-montreal/NgR_8KQ8xnA/OIUVJJMkBgAJ| Not The Ending I Would Have Preferred]</ref>

They had planned to climb down a turbolift shaft, with Lael experiencing anxiety about the climb down, when Chen got struck by weapons' fire. He was alive, but unconscious. Forced to develop a plan B, Stoyer jumped onto the top of the turbolift, while Bren lowered the unconscious Chen down and then jumped himself with Lael all the while laying down cover fire. Once Stoyer, Bren, and Chen were safely inside the lift, she jumped as well and climbed inside. They then discussed next steps. Stoyer wanted to hide Chen somewhere, but Lael disagreed, afraid that Chen might not be safe on his own with the crew of the Tharsis hunting people like animals. They decide to stick together and continue moving.
'''Supplemental Data File: [[Lael_Rosek/USS_Montreal_Service_Jacket|Montreal Service Jacket]]'''.

When wandering the corridors, they encountered Doctor Ana Mirovan, a member of the Tharsis crew, who seemed to be normal and running from the others. More buckling of the hull indicated that structural integrity was close to failing, so they decided they needed to repair the ship to stand the best chance of saving themselves, the crew of the Tharsis, and the other away team. Dr. Mirovan agreed to stay with Commander Chen. Again, Stoyer insisted on trying to repair the ship, but Lael again disagreed, stating that they needed to make the crew a priority. Reluctantly, Stoyer agreed. Just as they began moving toward the computer core, they received a message from the other away team, indicating that communications were working again. They then discover that the cause of the crew's psychosis was a virus transmitted by an alien insect. They are able to bring the away teams safely and some but not all of the Tharsis crew.

After Captain [[Mei'konda]]'s promotion ceremony, the crew settled into a new routine aboard their new ship, the {{USS|Astraeus}}. The vessel began its maiden voyage on stardate 239607.02, launching from the station in orbit of Cait. <ref>[https://groups.google.com/d/msg/sb118-astraeus/y7ZAbx18gYc/5bogg-uRCgAJ| Almost Unbearable Excitement]</ref> Their first mission serving on the new vessel began with a request from the Bajoran government. The ''Astraeus'' crew was provided a list of names whom the Bajoran government claimed had been missing since the Occupation of Bajor. The Bajoran government asserted that these individuals had been taken and had not been returned to their homes following the war. The ''Astraeus'' crew would be part of the investigation and the talks in seeing these individuals returned. As part of their arrival at Deep Space Nine in orbit of Bajor, they'd be taking on new personnel and during the briefing, Captain [[Mei'konda]] tasked her with seeing to the crew transfers. <ref>[https://groups.google.com/d/msg/sb118-astraeus/TIY9E59bo-k/-rlSZnKsCwAJ| The Proof Is In The Records, Part I]</ref>

Following the mission, Lael was checked out in Sickbay by Jansen who, due to her ankle injury, carried her to her quarters. They spent some time talking, which led to Lael inviting Jansen to her friend's upcoming birthday party. They had a good time, including a couple of opportunities for them to dance together.
When they arrived in orbit of Bajor, they discovered a mysterious buoy containing numerous Cardassian records that they hadn't detected before arriving in the system. Some of the senior staff had their suspicions regarding its origin, but Captain [[Mei'konda]] had it beamed aboard for careful examination by the Engineering, Science, and Security departments. Meanwhile, Lael along with Captain [[Mei'konda]] and Lieutenant [[Riley Delar]], the ''Astraeus''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s mission specialist were to meet up with Bajoran minister Dalen Martov. <ref>[https://groups.google.com/d/msg/sb118-astraeus/uNXVVPi2Lps/z2r2GPRpDgAJ| No Way We Got That Lucky]</ref>

A couple days later, the awards dinner was held in Holodeck 666 on Astrofori One with a Victorian masquerade theme. Lael attended with Jansen, dressed in a gothic Victorian gown. At the dinner she is presented with a Captain's Commedation for saving Commander Chen's life and a Medical Science Ribbon presented to all who participated in the away mission aboard the Tharsis. Following the presentation of the awards, Lael congratulated Jansen on his and they danced. After some socializing, Lael and Jansen along with a few of the other crew decided to retire to the library only to come across the body of the deceased Cardassian envoy, Kotan Jara. The scene evokes a flashback for Lael to Temlai and it takes a few moments for her to regain her scattered wits. Captain Reynolds analyzed the situation and asked Lael to gather the senior staff, but Lael was unable to locate Lieutenant Commanders Eerie and Skyfire as well as Lieutenants Stoyer and Sharpe, who later arrived on their own.
{{LCARS-bar-left|POST-ACADEMY: {{USS|Atlantis}}|100|COLOR=maroon}}

Once everyone had been briefed on the situation and they had discussed their options, Lael was assigned to a team comprised of Jansen, Anya, Captain Reynolds and Doctor Chandur to investigate the scene of the crime. However, the culprit had clearly cleaned up well, leaving no obvious physical evidence behind. As they were wrapping up their perusal of the room, Commander Brunsig arrived and the group then headed to explore the basement. When they entered the basement, they found an operating table with evidence of blood. Seeking a placed to rest, Jansen leaned against a lever that sent him and Lael tumbling down a chute. Once they had their bearings, they realized that they had fallen into an underground labyrinth. During their search they found a room where someone had recently been sleeping.
{{Frame|LaelLtCmdrGoldIntEngBckgd.png|150px|CAPTION='''Lael aboard the {{USS|Atlantis}} (2397).'''|FLOAT=left}}

As they began the search for the culprit, they saw indications that the holodeck malfunction was getting worse. They thought they saw someone and as they ran after them, Lael heard Captain Reynolds calling out, sounding very alarmed. They rushed in the direction of her voice only to find Brunsig injured by a bullet. Lael watched as Jansen operated on Brunsig, removing the bullet and sautering the wound. They then decided to move Brunsig back to the mansion to better treat him, but when they arrived they saw that Vess had been injured as well. Jansen took responsibility for the care of the two wounded while the rest of the team began theorizing on possible suspects. In the meantime, a few of them were able to get the program shut down. Vess and Brunsig were immediately beamed to Sickbay. They managed to track the suspect to the docking ports. She joined LtCmdrs. Skyfire and Eerie as well as Lieutenants Sharpe and Shapiro in pursuit of the suspect. Lael and Skyfire broke off from the others to isolate the suspect, but in the process, Skyfire was injured. Despite their best efforts, the suspect escaped.
Lael received her transfer orders for the {{USS|Atlantis}} shortly after the conclusion of its recent mission. The crew was in the process of transferring to their new ship, the {{USS|Chin'toka}} where they would serve while the {{USS|Atlantis}} underwent repairs and upgrades. Not long after her arrival, she and other members of the {{USS|Atlantis}} crew attended an awards ceremony where Commander [[Jarred Thoran]] was promoted to the rank of Captain. However, he collapsed suddenly in the midst of the ceremony and passed not soon after.

While she was being treated in Sickbay, Lael asked after Brunsig, who is still in a coma. As much as she didn't like the man, she found herself feeling compassion for both him and for Captain Reynolds. She thought back to when she and Jansen had come onto the scene to find Brunsig injured and the conversation that made it clear that he had taken the bullet for Captain Reynolds, thinking it really romantic. After she was cleared and had returned to her quarters, she contacted her friends Rebecca and Elina to catch up, then placed a call to her brother.

Despite the sudden loss of her captain, a man she had come to highly respect, Lael was pleased to again be working with Captain [[Mei'konda|Mei'konda]]. Following its launch, the Chin'toka was ordered to resume the Atlantis's previous edict to explore the Par'tha Expanse. {{Frame|Rosek_LtCmdrRedBkgd.png|150px|CAPTION='''Lael aboard the {{USS|Chin'toka}} (2398).'''|FLOAT=right}}The crew of the Chin'toka was invited to a diplomatic dinner in their honor by Valcarian Grand Admiral Lorrein Dels’an. However, upon their arrival, they discover that the Grand Admiral had an ulterior motive. Dels'an had reason to believe the life of her newly appointed aide, [[Dehan Strin]], was in danger and she wanted the crew's assistance in protecting him as well as to help prevent a civil war. While the away teams worked on the surface, Lael remained aboard with Lieutenant Commander [[Serala]] and Ensign [[Varik Tal'Aura]] to keep an eye on the situation from orbit. The ship was later attacked by a Valcarian cruiser and was forced to defend itself. They are able to successfully disable their attacker with the Chin'toka sustaining only minimal damage. Having thwarted the assassination attempt on the Grand Admiral's life, the away teams returned to the ship and left Dels'an to deal with the fallout as she saw fit.

A couple days later, after a restless night's sleep, Lael gathered the courage to talk to Jansen about the complication with her spinal injury, confessing that the nanites are degrading fast--faster than she can replace them. It's also during this conversation with Jansen that she revealed that she and Janel had ended their relationship. They're interrupted by Jansen being paged to Sickbay, but he said he'd make it up to her.

The next day, she received a message from Jansen to meet her on the holodeck dressed warm. He surprised her with an intimate cabin amidst a winter wonderland. They enjoyed flirting, a snowball fight, and a dinner Jansen prepared. They enjoyed time together and Lael developed an appreciation for Ligonian spiced tea and Romulan cuisine, in particular Romulan Mollusk and Viinerine.

===='''''ANNUS HORRIBILIS'''''====

What started as a standard mission scanning a nebula soon turned disastrous as some unusual readings resulting in them being pulled into an alternate universe. At first, Lael, like the others, wasn't sure what had happened--only that there had been a jolt and the nebula that they had been scanning before wasn't the same one they were currently looking at. Before they could blink a Defiant-class ship had suddenly appeared on sensors and sent a message. After speaking with Captain Brunsig of the ''USS Triumphant'' and looking into the reports of an alternate universe the ''USS Invicta'' encountered, they were able to ascertain that they are in that universe, one in which the Federation lost the Dominion war and no longer exists. Lael was assigned to the team that would figure out how to get the ship home. Further research and discussion revealed that they couldn't simply go back the way they came or they risked destabilizing the nebula. They needed alternatives. At this point, they sought aid from their counterparts on the ''Triumphant''.

While talking with her counterpart aboard the ''Triumphant'', Lael learned just how different her counterpart's life had turned out. Lael (alternate) had met and married Jansen's alternate counterpart and they had a beautiful son, Jax, still an infant. While Lael had never known her father, Lael (alternate) had never known her mother, who had died in childbirth. Also, Lael's alternate counterpart was a civilian consultant who had lived her life on Luraul with her father, Aldek (alternate) and his family.

Later while Lael was on duty, they encountered another ship whose configuration they don't recognize. It was at this precise moment that Captain Reynolds returned to the bridge with two new faces--one of them was Commander Alex Blair, who was aboard a shuttle set to arrive for orders when he was also sucked into the nebula. They tried using sensors to get a better idea of the ship on the edge of their sensors but the nebula had interfered with the readings. Lael was then ordered down to Engineering with Commander Blair and Shapiro to help with repairs.

While down in Engineering making repairs, the ship came under attack. Given the earlier sensor ghosts, Lael suspected Dominion ships. She worked with Ensign Anjar Thoran to get shields and weapons operational. During the fire fight, the fissure had closed, leaving them stranded. They had managed to evade the Dominion ships, but had lost the ''Triumphant''. Fortunately, they'd managed to transfer many of the ''Triumphant's'' personnel before its destruction, including Lael's counterpart and her family. Seeking a place to lie low, they had found a planet with a strong magnetic field that would hide them from Dominion sensors.

Later, Lael talked to her alternate counterpart's brother, Kellan, who was concerned for her counterpart. He convinced Lael to talk to her counterpart about seeking counseling for the woman's obvious depression. However, Lael had issues of her own. She was still struggling to find a solution for the failure of her nanites. While in the Science lab off-duty, Sevo came in and Lael hurried to hide what she'd been working on. It turned out there had been a glitch with the computer and this Science lab had been double-booked. Even after the awkward moment, Lael found herself sharing with Sevo that she and Jansen had been dating since around Christmas. After a little more light conversation, Lael asked Sevo for advice regarding her attempts. While Sevo was hesitant to get involved due to the controversial nature of the project, she gave Lael some good leads on potential ways to solve the problem.

Some time into their stint in Hell, Lael decided to take Anjar up on his offer for some fun while they were taking reprieve at a station, the Helase, which boasted a casino. Anjar, ever the avid gambler, invited her to join him at the tables. However, they soon suspect that they are being watched. They were forced to create a diversion in an excuse to leave. In the end, they got back to the ship, but not without drawing a lot of attention to themselves. Though they'd thankfully been wrong about being tailed, Lael had had the feeling that it wouldn't be long before the casino owner realized who they were and reported the sighting to Vess's alternate counterpart, who it had turned out was a spy for the Dominion.

EARLY LIFE

Lael As A Young Child

Younglael2.jpeg
Lael, Age 5

Lael was born two minutes before her twin brother Kellan on Stardate 236610.24 to Adelynn Rosek in Cedar Springs, Michigan. She never met her father and, due to her mother's silence, knew very little about him. She would visit the nearby Carr-Fles Planetarium whenever she could.

At age 5, Lael joined her school's Daisy Girl Scout Troop and learned the importance of doing for others. It was also at this age that she first began taking jiu-jitsu lessons to combat bullying at school. Though she was bullied in her younger years because her Al-Leyan heritage, her easy-going and compassionate nature won her many friends. She loved to sing and participated in her school's choir.

Mackinac Island.JPG

TheRavenrowboat.jpg
The Raven, Lael's first major construction project.

As is typical for most young children, Lael had a vivid imagination and her play often involved fantastical adventures. One place, in particular, inspired many adventures: Mackinac Island, north of Muskegon, Michigan.

One summer, Lael put her building skills to use and constructed a boat, The Raven, for her and Kellan to take out on Lake Michigan. [2]

Lael in Middle School

Laelat14.jpeg
Lael, Age 13

Lael in High School

Lael11.jpg
Lael, Age 16

Lael's mother was determined to train Lael in the feminine arts and when Lael was 15, Adelynn enrolled Lael in finishing school course she herself taught at the local country club. Lael learned social graces, various dancing styles, and how to play the piano. During the course, Lael became friends with a fellow classmate, Molly Dalinton, "who professed to hate it as much as she did". [3] The two would make faces and mock Adelynn's every move when her back was turned.

She was very active in both sports and clubs in high school. She was well-liked by almost everyone and always looked for ways to help others. She excelled academically and was a member of her school's National Honor Society. She participated in such school sports as Track, Cross Country, Basketball, Competitive Cheer, and Dance.

Notable Relationships
  • Kellan Rosek: Despite having many friends, her twin brother was always her greatest ally and her strongest advocate. To this day, they are quite close and communicate often. He often comes to her for relationship advice and she, in return, leans on him in times of emotional difficulty.
  • Adelynn Rosek: Lael's relationship with her mother is extremely strained due to her mother's high, and at times, unreasonable expectations of her.
  • Thomas DeMarcus: Lael had a close relationship with her uncle spending many of her summers until she turned 15 on his farm helping him care for the animals.
  • Louise Rosek-DeMarcus: Lael view's her Aunt Louise as "the fun aunt" and enjoys time in her company.

STARFLEET ACADEMY

Starfleet Academy

Lael and her girlfriend, Ivina

Year One

Lael almost quit the Academy to go in search of her biological father, but her twin convinced her to pursue her true passion: fixing and build things.

DoNotGoGentlePoem.png
A copy of Lael's favorite poem, "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night", given to her during her recovery from her rock-climbing accident.

Year Two

During her second year at the Academy, Lael began studying Communications/Operations, Engineering, and Physics. She did well in most of her classes, but the most memorable for her was her Engineering class during her first semester. The instructor for that class preferred teaching through experiences and she enjoyed the challenge immensely. While most in her class complained about his unconventional teaching style, she came to respect him for it. Seeing how the simulations he threw out barely fazed her, he made it a personal mission to come up with a scenario even she couldn't solve. In the end, he wrote a letter of recommendation that secured Lael's place on the USS Victory following her graduation. [5]

Year Three

About a month following the accident, she was contacted by Doctor Gibbons. He was experimenting with the use of nanotechnology to treat otherwise untreatable spinal conditions. The procedure was highly controversial and hadn't yet been approved for Humanoid testing. Despite the risks, Lael agreed to be the first Humanoid subject to receive the procedure. Following the procedure, Lael completed extensive physical therapy to regain her mobility. It was during this time that she met Elina Kincade, who supervised her care and therapy. Through Elina, Lael also became friends with Rebecca Hollendale and with Dassa Alexander, one of Elina's students and an aspiring Starfleet medical officer. Prior to the beginning of her third year, Lael had an intimate liaison with Dassa, leaving the two permanently connected via an unintentionally-formed psionic bond.

As Doctor Gibbons had promised, Lael passed all of her Academy physicals with flying colors, the nanotechnology offering the added benefit of increasing her already beyond-Human agility and strength as well as marginally increasing her senses; in particular, her sense of smell. She started classes again in the spring following her accident and moved into an apartment off campus with friends Dassa and Elina. The three friends lived together until Lael left for Starbase 118 to begin her Engineering internship at the beginning of what would have been her fourth year.

Year Four, Cadet Cruise, and Graduation

Lael's Cross.png

In her fourth year while completing her Engineering internship aboard Starbase 118, she met Jensar Berel. The two had a passionate relationship. Six months following their meeting, the two eloped on Risa. Neither of their families were supportive of the marriage. Six months into their marriage, Jensar's older brother was assassinated, forcing him to return home to fill his brother's role on the Betazed council. Jensar tried to convince Lael to come with him, but she wasn't willing to give up the Starfleet career that she'd fought so hard to keep. Her dreams were in the stars. Lael was devastated and jumped into a rebound sexual relationship with an unjoined Trill woman, Alva Tigan. But this relationship inevitably ended when Alva was selected for Joining.

Lael finished her internship in January 2391, then completed her cadet cruise aboard the USS Centris-A and graduated with a double major in Engineering and Helm/Communications/Operations as well as a minor in Physics.

Notable Relationships
  • Ivina Genestra: Despite their chemistry, Lael realized that she loved Ivina, but wasn’t in love with her. They’re now friends.
  • Aidia Carter: The two were in a couple of classes together and met through Ivina.
  • Michael Zola: The two met at the Academy and would often go rock climbing together. He was killed in the same rock climbing accident that paralyzed Lael.
  • Elina Kincade: She and Lael met at Starfleet Medical when she was helping Lael with her physical therapy and recovery. The two have been close ever since with Elina becoming a strong female role model for Lael.
  • Rebecca Hollendale: Lael and Rebecca met through Elina. Though the two often disagree on certain issues, they're good friends nonetheless.
  • Dassa Alexander-Dalton: The two met through Lael's friend, Elina Kincade, and had a one-night stand that resulted in a psionic bond. The two remain friends and have served on multiple ships together. Dassa has provided emotional support and a steady, loyal presence in Lael's life even when they were lightyears apart.
  • Jensar Berel: She and Jensar were together for six months before they eloped despite protests from both families. They were married for six months until they chose to divorce when Jensar’s older brother died and he was forced to return to Betazed to take his brother’s post with the Council.
  • Alva Tigan: Lael’s relationship with Alva was purely sexual and lasted for a period of six months.
  • Orson Marshall: The two met during Lael's Engineering internship aboard Starbase 118. After a fight with a Klingon who'd spilled her drink and refused to pay for it, she shared her victory drinks with Bear. Both single and unattached, they engaged in a flirtation that turned into what Lael intended to be a one night stand. [6] But the chemistry between them was undeniable and the two kept in touch, meeting up when time allowed, resulting in a series of one night stands. Ironically, the two had a good deal in common and became good friends.

POST-ACADEMY: USS Victory

Lael aboard the USS Victory (2392).

Upon graduating on Stardate 239202, Lael was assigned as an Engineering Officer aboard the USS Victory and arrived aboard just after the ship had been severely damaged by the events at Luxis II. Her first tasks as a green ensign were focused on repairing the damage to the ship.

Before the repairs could be completed, Captain Nugra and the crew were given new orders that resulted in them temporarily being assigned to the USS Achilles with the mission of hunting down a missing vial of the Skyfire Virus in conjunction with the Romulan Republic. However, the mission didn't go as planned and while chasing a young woman her colleague, Ensign Janel Tarna suspected of having the missing vial, both she and Tarna were captured and tortured by an organization called Sicarius. The two were eventually rescued, but not before both received severe injuries with Tarna's being life threatening. After retrieving the vial, they returned to the Achilles for treatment and counseling.

After a well-earned shoreleave, the crew of the Victory returned to their ship. Once out of dry dock, they encountered Captain Harrington James of the SS Lady Adventure who shared information about the USS Arrow, a ship that had been lost in the 23rd century. While the away team was aboard the lost ship investigating, the Victory encountered a group of hostile Tholians who demanded the Victory leave their space, forcing the crew to work quickly to retrieve the stranded away team. The Tholians attacked with webs and caused radiation leaks on decks 5-7. Lael was a part of the team that evacuated those decks, first getting sick from the radiation and then seizing from an allergy to the inoculation. She was treated in Sickbay and made a full recovery.

POST-ACADEMY: USS Gorkon

Following the decommissioning of the Victory on Stardate 239207.17, Lael transferred to the USS Gorkon. While adjusting to life aboard her new ship assignment, Lael experienced lingering nightmares from the Tholian incident and went to Sickbay, where she met Doctor Jansen Orrey, who she felt an instant attraction to.

Shoreleave soon wrapped up and the Gorkon crew responded to a distress call from the USS Tharsis, which was caught in a gravity well. Lael beamed over with a team led by Commander Chen in an attempt to free the trapped ship and save the crew. Little did the away teams know a flying creature had accidentally been set loose that bit the crew, causing them to hallucinate and become violent. While trying to escape those hunting them, Commander Chen was rendered unconscious by a phaser blast, forcing the remaining members of the team to carry him to safety. While the away teams and some of the Tharsis crew were safely retrieved, the Tharsis and all remaining hands were lost when the gravity well tore the ship apart.

Following the Tharsis mission, the crew was prepared for the awards dinner, a masquerade theme set on Astrofori One's Holodeck 666 in a creepy Victorian mansion. Lael and Jansen were then separated from the group when Jansen accidentally triggered a trap door. They tumbled down into an underground labyrinth and searching for a way back to their team. As they went, they found evidence that someone had been living there and that the holodeck systems were failing. At last, they escaped and rejoined their team only to find that Commander Walter Brunsig had been shot by a bullet meant for Captain Reynolds. When they moved him back to the mansion, they found Commander Vess wounded as well. Once they had successfully found a way to deactivate the program, both men were beamed to Sickbay for further treatment.

After the mission, while being treated in Sickbay, Lael asked after Brunsig. Once she was cleared, she returned to her quarters to catch up with her friends and her brother. In pain and scared, Lael finally confessed to Jansen the complications with her spinal injury and he offered his help. The day after, they went on their first date on the holodeck.

They were led by a man named Connor Lucas to a group of Romulans who offered the parts they needed in exchange for the rescue of a Romulan crew taken prisoner by Erik Jansen, Vess's evil alternate universe counterpart. The team managed to lie their way aboard Deep Space Ten where the prisoners were being held and they split into two groups to locate the prisoners. Once their mission had been completed, they returned to the Gorkon aboard Lucas's shuttle, but Lael was injured in the process, the intense pain of her spinal injury, exacerbated by a collision with a bulkhead, had caused her to pass out. She was taken to the Gorkon's sickbay for treatment.

About a month after the DSX incident, she encountered Chythar Skyfire in the Sto'vo'kor Lounge and, despite resenting him for the pain the Skyfire Virus and subsequent Skyfire Cure had brought into her life, the two quickly became friends. Not long after, the crew found a way home via a Romulan deflector array used to open another fissure like the one they'd been pulled through months ago and managed to evade Erik Jansen's ships to find the USS Yahrala, under the command of Commander Brunsig waiting on the other side to tow them back to Earth.

Lael aboard the USS Za (2394).

Shortly after her spinal replacement surgery, Lael followed her transfer orders with her friends Dassa and Chythar to the USS Za where Alex was already waiting. Not long after her arrival, she reported for her first duty shift on the bridge where she was a part of the first contact with a bear-like race called the Hocktin. Lael was assigned to Alex's team to help with setting up a ship to ship network to exchange information. However, the mission quickly went sour when a crewmember was bitten by a flea-like creature and was exposed to a deadly virus.

To make matters worse, Lael and Alex were bitten while aboard the Hocktin vessel, and Captain Rhani her team were taken hostage by a militaristic faction. The situation was further exacerbated when Hocktin scientist Professor Mindor beamed aboard without following proper quarantine procedures and exposed the whole ship to the virus. Lael and Alex learned that the Captain had been taken and had to they fight against time to get a blood sample from the immune Hocktin to save the crew and locate the Captain before the disease reached its final stage. The energy they expended in their efforts took a severe toll on them both and they barely returned to the Za in time to receive the cure the Medical team had synthesized.

Lael aboard the USS Veritas (2395).

Lael transferred to the USS Veritas on Stardate 239407.07 after the decommissioning of the USS Za. When she, Chythar, and Alex beamed down to New Macau, the Antor II capital, they were shocked at the devastation they found. When they beamed aboard the Veritas, they checked in with Captain Roshanara Rahman where they learned that rifts in space had caused disastrous earthquakes that had damaged many of the planet's dome environments and made them uninhabitable on top of leaving many people dead.

Lael was assigned to work with Alex and Luna Walker, the Veritas Chief Engineer, to repair the domes. While they determined a more sustainable, longer term solution, they beamed down to establish temporary housing in some old mines that would protect the inhabitants from dangerous levels of tetryon radiation. However, they became caught in a cave-in. While Lael and Alex escaped unharmed, Luna and Anjar Thoran became trapped.

Lael, Alex and the Search and Rescue (SAR) Team led by Commander Kelrod and Lieutenant, Junior Grade Carter Greyson worked desperately to free the two trapped officers. At last, they were able to safely retrieve Luna and Anjar and transport them to Sickbay to be treated for their injuries.

POST-ACADEMY: USS Montreal
RosekFirstOfficer.png
Lael aboard the USS Montreal (2396).

The Veritas was scheduled to meet with the Montreal to transfer Lieutenant Commander Sky Blake. However, the vessel arrived early at the rendezvous badly damaged with Commander Zhou Tai-Sheng seriously injured. Lael was ordered to gather a team to aid with repairs and Commander Mei'konda, unknown to Lael, was instructed to take command of the vessel. [7] Not long afterward, Mei'konda invited Lael to his ready room and offered her the position of first officer.[8]

Their first mission as a crew was one of the more memorable ones of her career. News reached her in the Montreal's Engineering from Commander Mei'konda that the Tholians had destroyed Astrofori One, a rather large Federation outpost. It stunned her that the Tholians would do something so bold and brazen. She ordered Lieutenant Thoran to take a team down to the torpedo launchers and help load them since their autoload was still offline. Before heading to the bridge, she gave Ensign Jacob Harkrow an encouraging pep talk. [9]

Once she arrived on the bridge, she took her place at Commander Mei’konda’s side. Not long after she sat down, Lieutenant German Galven detected a temporal rift. Concerned, Lael instructed Ensign Mesda Chatva to keep them well away so they didn’t get pulled in like the ‘’Gorkon’’ had during one of their missions. [10][11] Commander Mei'konda contacted the Veritas to warn them about the rift as well as to advise that Tholians were closing in on their position. Once the comm was cut, he ordered helmsman Ensign Chatva to move them toward the Veritas. Once they were in range, Lieutenant Galven and Ensign Esbrun Vardai began to work on closing the rift.

With that done, the crew then turned their attention to locating the Tholian ships. Ensign Vardai reported three Meshweaver class frigates. Not long after they'd visually confirmed the presence of the ships, Tholian Commander Taroka hailed the Montreal and demanded their immediate surrender. When Commander Mei'konda didn't comply with the Tholian Commander's demand, the Tholian vessel opened fire, forcing the Montreal to defend themselves. [12] Commander Tel-ar was successful in damaging and driving off one of the Tholian ships, leaving two for them to deal with. Both Lieutenant Galven and Ensign Vardai had possible options for disabling the ships. After weighing the risks of both plans, Commander Mei'konda ordered them to proceed with Ensign Vardai's plan to use a reverse tractor beam to set off the Tholians' torpedos, therefore disabling both ships. In the end, the ship closest to them was destroyed and the second ship was disabled. The battle won, the Montreal rejoined the Veritas. [13]

Lael aboard the USS Astraeus (2396).

After Captain Mei'konda's promotion ceremony, the crew settled into a new routine aboard their new ship, the USS Astraeus. The vessel began its maiden voyage on stardate 239607.02, launching from the station in orbit of Cait. [14] Their first mission serving on the new vessel began with a request from the Bajoran government. The Astraeus crew was provided a list of names whom the Bajoran government claimed had been missing since the Occupation of Bajor. The Bajoran government asserted that these individuals had been taken and had not been returned to their homes following the war. The Astraeus crew would be part of the investigation and the talks in seeing these individuals returned. As part of their arrival at Deep Space Nine in orbit of Bajor, they'd be taking on new personnel and during the briefing, Captain Mei'konda tasked her with seeing to the crew transfers. [15]

When they arrived in orbit of Bajor, they discovered a mysterious buoy containing numerous Cardassian records that they hadn't detected before arriving in the system. Some of the senior staff had their suspicions regarding its origin, but Captain Mei'konda had it beamed aboard for careful examination by the Engineering, Science, and Security departments. Meanwhile, Lael along with Captain Mei'konda and Lieutenant Riley Delar, the Astraeus's mission specialist were to meet up with Bajoran minister Dalen Martov. [16]

Lael received her transfer orders for the USS Atlantis shortly after the conclusion of its recent mission. The crew was in the process of transferring to their new ship, the USS Chin'toka where they would serve while the USS Atlantis underwent repairs and upgrades. Not long after her arrival, she and other members of the USS Atlantis crew attended an awards ceremony where Commander Jarred Thoran was promoted to the rank of Captain. However, he collapsed suddenly in the midst of the ceremony and passed not soon after.

The crew of the Chin'toka was invited to a diplomatic dinner in their honor by Valcarian Grand Admiral Lorrein Dels’an. However, upon their arrival, they discover that the Grand Admiral had an ulterior motive. Dels'an had reason to believe the life of her newly appointed aide, Dehan Strin, was in danger and she wanted the crew's assistance in protecting him as well as to help prevent a civil war. While the away teams worked on the surface, Lael remained aboard with Lieutenant Commander Serala and Ensign Varik Tal'Aura to keep an eye on the situation from orbit.
