The First Colony

  • Stardate 239606

Veritas investigates the murder of a Starfleet officer on Ketar V, where tensions have been rising between the growing Romulan refugee population and the original Federation settlers of the colony.

Act 1

The USS Veritas arrived at Ketar V to assist the Colonial Coalition Marshals Service (CCMS) in the investigation of the murder of Lt. Cmdr. Armin Illanos.

Illanos, whose body was found outside the Explosive Decompression bar in Opportunity, was the Starfleet liaison officer to the Livernois Shipyards. The large civilian shipyard has been contracted by Starfleet to build runabouts, transports, and other small craft that are essential to the Federation's infrastructure in the region. Reports indicate that the man was stabbed multiple times, and that he appeared to have written the letters "R.L." own the ground, using his own blood to communicate one final message before he died. CCMS believe the letters to be an abbreviation for Reya-Laialara, a reclusive group of Vulcans and Romulans that maintains a hidden colony somewhere deep in the Shoals. A suspect named Lukaik, an older Romulan, was being held for questioning.

Veritas officers joined CCMS Inspector Marshal Henning Hext in investigating the murder. Officers began questioning people who worked with Illanos, including the shipyard owner and several senior workers. Other officers were engaged with studying forensic evidence at the crime scene and the Ketar Medical Center.

Following their questioning of the owner of the shipyards, Captain Roshanara Rahman and several members of her crew were themselves taken into CCMS custody for their supposed involvement in a brawl at a diner near the shipyard. Fortunately, they were bailed out to continue their investigation.

Act 2

The Towering Inferno

Delano, Moonsong, Kelrod, Mackenzie, Ukinix and Xerix, along with NPC Jennings and in association with Zea on the Veritas, have been battling a highrise fire caused by the heavy-handed CCMS raid conducted by Chief Marshal Jennings of the CCMS. During which, Deputy Calbert was taking captive by a group of very grouchy Remans, who (after transporting away to a distant location on the planet) released Calbert into Delano's custody. That group is back aboard the Veritas being treated for injuries. Moonsong's team of Ukinix, Mackenzie and Xerix have been attempting to calm the situation and treat the wounded near the apartment fire, and have discovered several refugees with traces of Felicium on their persons, whom they are now attempting to detain

If it walks like a dock and talks like a dock

Hext, El Sayid, Monroe and Teller attempted to stake out what they believed to be the last package Illanos setup for delivery, but missed it at the warehouse. After chatting with some surprisingly helpful yardhands, they were lead to the Ketar V spaceport, where they discovered the crate being loaded aboard a Xepolite cargo ship. When Hext attempted to question the Captain, the ship and Captain blasted their way out of the docks and are currently headed for orbit. The team is in pursuit in a CCMS flyer and are under fire

Who left these here?

Rahman, Vanlith, Del Vedova, Orrey and you followed a lead which lead you to the locker of Lukaik, the original suspect. After cracking the lock, you discovered bloody clothes and a possible murder weapon. When questioning Lukaik, he maintained his innocence and suggested he is being framed. That conversation is ongoing.

Captain's Log, Stardate 239606.13

After departing Cait, we have returned to the Shoals and are on the Mother Road heading to Meridian, with a scheduled stop before then at Geelong Outpost. The crew seems well-rested and eager to resume their duties, and after my own... excursion with Lieutenant Teller and Commander Kinan, I'm quite ready to have a return to normalcy.

Captain's Log, Supplemental

We've entered orbit of Ketar V to begin our investigation into the death of Lieutenant Commander Armin Illanos. Commander Illanos was assigned as the Starfleet liaison to one of the civilian shipyards on the planet that has a contract with Starfleet. CCMS has sent us their preliminary reports, but as this homicide case involves a Starfleet officer, the Starfleet Criminal Investigative Service has tasked us with completing the investigation. I've forwarded the initial reports to the senior staff, and I've gone down to the surface along with Commander Delano, Dr. MacKenzie, Lieutenant G'var, and Lt. Commander Moonsong to meet with Inspector Marshal Henning Hext.

Inspector Marshal Hext was able to supplement the preliminary reports we'd reviewed earlier with a list of "persons of interest." He stressed these were not all necessarily suspects in the case--at least not without more evidence--but that they held the most promise in determining *what* exactly happened.

First, there is the man the marshals had detained for questioning: Lukaik, a Romulan who works at the Livernois Shipyards. Evidently, "Lukaik" is just the name he used to gain employment on Ketar. From what the marshals uncovered, he's actually Reya-Laialara and a former member of Lenik’s pirate-turned-terrorist group. Given the current political situation in the Shoals and Lenik's own recent death, there are many in the region who would have no qualms about putting one of the madman's associates on trial for their horrific crimes.

Next, there is Raoul Livernois, owner of the Livernois Shipyards. The shipyards currently hold a contract with Starfleet that the victim Lt. Cmdr. Armin Illanos had been overseeing. From both the victim and Ensign Ch'chileth's duty reports, Mr. Livernois and Commander Illanos' working relationship had turned sour over the past few months.

In addition to Mr. Livernois, Commander Illanos worked frequently with the owner's wife Cassandra Livernois, who works as the records keeper at the shipyards.

Next, there is the yard supervisor, Roman Bojchuk. As the man who sees day-to-day operations, he too worked frequently with the victim in seeing to the Starfleet contract.

Finally, two other workers were assigned to the section where Lukaik worked: Rama Suttirat and Arral. Like Lukaik, Arral is a Romulan refugee who was hired based on Starfleet's requirements that any shipyard taking on the contract provide employment to the refugees that the Federation Council and Starfleet had helped resettle in the wake of the Hobus supernova that had destroyed the Romulan and Reman homeworlds. Either of them might be able to provide more information about Lukaik or the general conditions at the shipyards.

I feel fortunate to have Commander Delano by my side during this case. His connection to the Reya-Laialara could prove invaluable. Perhaps the community knows something more that could assist us. I've also sent a letter to Lt. Commander Sky Blake requesting her return to Veritas from her field assignment as a ranger. I could use her astute counsel and experience, but I don't expect a response for at least a few days.

In the mean time, this mission will be an opportunity to have our junior officers complete some much needed cross-training experience in other departments and fields. A career in Starfleet frequently means being called to perform in areas outside of one's comfort or expertise. Thus, the crew have been assigned to the following teams:

Interview Raoul Livernois, owner of the Livernois Shipyards

  • Captain Roshanara Rahman, team leader
  • Commander Kelrod
  • Lt.JG Wil Ukinix

Interview Cassandra Livernois, shipyards records keeper and wife of Raoul Livernois

  • Lt. Cmdr. Raissa Moonsong, team leader
  • Deputy Marshal Lucius Calbert, assisting from Colonial Coalition Marshals Service (CCMS)
  • Ensign Andy Monroe
  • Ensign Ghant Xerix

Interview shipyard workers: Roman Bojchuk (yard supervisor), Rama Suttirat, and Arral

  • Counselor Jansen Orrey, team leader
  • Lt. G'var
  • Ensign Charlena Vanlith

Reconstruct the crime scene at Ketar medical center's holochamber

  • Commander Evan Delano, team leader
  • Inspector Marshal Henning Hext, assisting as CCMS Liaison
  • Lt. Geoffrey Teller
  • Ensign Nabihah El Sayid

Examine the victim's body and review morgue findings

  • Dr. Niccolò del Vedova, team leader
  • Dr. Addison MacKenzie

It feels like we've just opened a puzzle and laid out all the pieces. Now, we just need to see where they all fit.
