Having narrowly avoided a full scale armed confrontation with the Tholian Assembly, the Veritas is on its way back to Federation space when the ships computers become unresponsive. What at first seems like a minor nuisance quickly turns into a full blown catastrophe as systems across the ship reconfigure themselves and leverage the navigational deflector to fire an energy pulse at an uncharted moon, wrapping it in an enormous self-sustaining temporal anomaly. Prologue
After an unknown party causes the navigational deflector aboard the USS Veritas to create a temporal anomaly around an uncharted M-Class moon, the ships fuel supply is rapidly consumed leading to a total loss of power. Realizing they have only moments, Captain Rosharana Rahman orders the crew to abandon ship but the shuttles and escape pods are quickly caught up in the temporal anomaly and crash to the surface of the moon. The survivors nickname it...Limbo.

Plot Summary
Having narrowly avoided a full scale armed confrontation with the Tholian Assembly, the Veritas is on its way back to Federation space when the ships computers become unresponsive. What at first seems like a minor nuisance quickly turns into a full blown catastrophe as systems across the ship reconfigure themselves and leverage the navigational deflector to fire an energy pulse at an uncharted moon, wrapping it in an enormous self-sustaining temporal anomaly. The Vertias almost immediately consumes all of its stored deuterium and the ship quickly becomes inert. In an effort to protect the lives of her crew, Captain Rahman orders them to abandon the Veritas but, due to their close proxmity to the anomaly, the pods and shuttles used by the crew are themselves drained of fuel and crash to the surface of the moon, spread over hundreds of kilometers across a large tropical island. Numerous crew members are injured and almost a dozen are killed in the course of the evacuation and subsequent crash.
Taking stock after the landing, an encampment forms around the wreckage of the medical shuttle as the crew attempts to gather and begin the work of survival on this primitive tropical paradise. The majority of the senior officers, including Captain Rahman, First Officer Commander Evan Delano, Lieutenant Commander Raissa Moonsong, Security Chief Sky Blake, newly assigned Ships Counselor Jansen Orrey, Chief Medical Officer Cole Maxwell, Search and Rescue Team Leader Kelrod, along with Security officer Ensign G'var and Engineers Wil Uknix and Acting Chief Engineer Geoffrey Teller begin to call the camp the 'New Risa Resort & Spa.' In addition, Mistress IA, a captured Orion Pirate, rounds out the population of this main encampment.
Days turn to weeks as the crew struggle with the basics of survival without significant technology. Agriculture and irrigation projects become the focus along with further development of the camps structures to provide shelter against the punishing sun and heat. As supplies run low, tensions flair in the camp as the situation for the crew seems to offer no chance of escape or rescue.
Elsewhere, Lt. Cmdr. Alora Deveau is struggling alone in the jungle, the only survivor of her escape pod, reflecting on the challenges of survival and wondering if she's the only member of the crew still alive. Further afield, a small second camp has formed, anchored by the tyrannical Captain Felicia Nickson, who believes a zealous adherence to discipline will somehow extend their dwindling rations and fading hopes.
A streak of light from the sky and a thunderous crash deposit Fleet Captain Kells and his aid on the moon, who inform the stranded crew that almost no time has passed since they abandoned ship several months earlier, leading Captain Rahman to realize the Temporal Integrity Commission has somehow trapped them all outside of the regular flow of time.
As weeks turn to months, Captain Rahman reflects on the deteriorating condition of her crew and decides to conduct a formal recognition ceremony to remember those that have been lost, and to award promotions to several promising junior officers who have distinguished themselves. Among those recognized are G'var and Geoffrey Teller, both of whom are promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade.
Several days later, a frustrating failure in the camps workshop and a trip to the nearby 'PurpleWhiteHaven Beach' leads engineers Wil Ukinix and Geoffrey Teller to the break though they believe will get the crew back home. The excited Engineers barrel back into camp and enter into intense discussions with Captain Rahman, Commander Delano and their stranded time traveler, Jhalib Ekal, on a way to repair the Veritas and to return home.
Log Entries
Captain's Log, Week 8 Has it really been eight weeks? It feels both too much time and yet not enough to account for everything we’ve accomplished thus far. We’ve managed to locate the rest of the crew, and thankfully, our casualties were light. Teller, Ukinix, and the other engineers have managed to construct a "town" using the escape pods and shuttles the crew brought down with them. Unfortunately, all of them aren’t in any condition to fly, the same phenomenon that had depleted Veritas of all its fuel having done the same to the collection of small craft now on the surface. Veritas herself is presumed lost. She'd have long burned up in the atmosphere by now. If we could somehow venture out to explore more of the moon, we might discover if a large part of the wreck has touched down on the surface. There might be more salvageable components. |
Security/Tactical Officer G'var's Log, Planet Limbo, Week 8 Eight weeks and no rescue, the "day" on Limbo seems to never end. The beauty of this planet has vanished for me. There is only so much swimming and hiking one can do to busy themselves. The heat and Humidity are bearable, no worse than the Fire Caves on Boreth. I've found solace in finding a routine, and returning to my duties as a Security Officer, while not quit the same as on the Ship. "Night" on Limbo is a relative term, with the Ring Giant hanging in the sky, night is one long twilight. Limbo does have its share or predators, but so far nothing that we've not been able to handle. I've had my Security Teams began conserving our Phasers' power, I've designated one Team Member as rifleman. Additionally one Team Member is issued a hand phaser. With a little hard work and a bit of hull plating from the shuttle I have been able to fashion a few bladed weapons, spears mostly, but I've finally finished forging a Bat'leth. We've also been able to craft several recurve bows and fill a few quivers of arrows. The CHENG has been busy improving our makeshift Camp, He even promised us that any day now the New Risa Resort and Spa would have a functioning hot tub. He had several of my Teams looking for Metals for who knows what. He has threatened to conscript me as the Camp Blacksmith. I guess I shouldn't have made a forge. IA has thankfully been keeping out of trouble, her pheromone suppressant has long run out, but she has been good to her word and not used them. She and the Nausicaans have setup a Cantina on the Beach. The Golden Monkey, so named after one of the small simians that inhabit the local jungle. How they were able to brew alcohol is beyond me, but the Crew seem appreciative and enjoy having the Cantina. |
Engineering Officer’s Log, Stardate - uhhh, Day… ummm, one hundred annnnd… ten? Eleven? Captain Kells was recalled back to our camp by Captain Rahman not long after he joined us. Given he is the fleet captain, G’var felt it necessary that he had a security escort back, so she dispatched most of her team to go with him. That leaves only Lieutenant G’var, Doctor Maxwell, Crewman Bicondova and myself as the team in the hunt of the faint signals G’var detected days ago. Our team is low on any sort of technology other than a few tricorders and my - I mean, an engineering supplied, and now dead PADD. Which makes this log entry interesting, because talking into a palm leaf also makes this log entry redundant - but I do find it somewhat therapeutic. |
