  • Hair: White
  • Length of hair: Mid to long, usually worn in a pony tail.
  • Eyes: Red
  • Skin Tone: Pale
  • Build: Slim
  • Handedness: Left
  • Voice: Light and airy, with a definite Irish accent.
  • Laungages Spoken: English (Native), Gaelic (Conversational), Romulan (Conversational)
  • Carriage: Solaris has a light step and is often very quiet when walking, leading to her unintentionally sneaking up on people.
  • Taste in clothing (when off duty): Skirts and nice tops, or long flowing dresses, sometimes using a corset as a sort of belt, usually accompanied by tasteful high heels.
  • Preferred Uniform: Solaris prefers to wear her standard uniform with a Starfleet regulation skirt while onboard the ship. During away missions, she switches to more practical pants.
  • Shoes: In uniform: regulation Starfleet heeled boots. Off duty: tasteful heels.

Manner

  • Quarters:: Solaris keeps her living place tidy, only displaying a few choice mementos and pictures. She has a small collection of physical books, mostly those of Ian Fleming, along with some other spy novels, which were pivotal in leading her to where she is today. She also keeps her trombone on a stand in sight, never knowing when the mood to play will strike. Recently she acquired a footlocker containing some of her grandmothers possessions, including a photo of her first ship's crew and 2 model starships (Constitution and Excelsior). She currently lives above her bar (named the 'Tru Tone') in section of Starbase 118's commercial district meant to resemble New Orleans.
  • Office:: Solaris' office is located in Section Alpha, on Level 3 of the Black Tower. Much like her previous office it is kept dimmer than most people would find normal.
  • Favourite Room: Solaris can often be found in the holodeck when off duty, should it not already be in use. She loves the fact that it can become pretty much anything
  • Temperament: Solaris is generally out going, and happy, probably drawing from her Irish heritage. While on duty she is a little more serious, though isnt afraid to make a witty or sarcastic comment.
  • Mannerisms: Solaris often stand with her arms crossed, when her hands are other wise not needed.
  • Habits: Solaris has been known to mess with her hair while working on a particularly hard problem.
  • Favourite time of Day: Night. Solaris has always been a night owl, preferring it, as it allows her to get things done without much interruption.
  • Favourite Food: Shepard's Pie. Solaris loves shepard's pie, though often substitutes beef instead of lamb.
  • Favourite Drink: Earl Grey Tea. Solaris almost always starts her day with a cup of earl grey, and if she doesnt her mood is normally worse than if she had.

Hobbies & Pasttimes

Sol's King 3B
  • Music: Solaris plays the trombone and has been since she was in middle school. Her choice of instrument is a King 3B Legend, with an F-trigger.
  • Darts: You dont help out in an Irish pub and not learn how to play darts. Solaris has become quite proficient at the game, often draining people of their latinum.
  • Pool: Like the game of darts, if you're helping out in an Irish pub, avoiding the game is almost impossible. Solaris is decent at the game, but is far from the best.
  • Reading: Solaris loves to read. While she will tolerate reading from a PADD, she greatly prefers reading from a real physical book and can often be found either in her quarters or in the crew lounge while off duty, reading.

Family and Relationships
Family
JamesMcLaren.jpg James McLaren
Father
James McLaren is the owner of a small pub in Belfast. He has always been very supportive of Solaris' interests, often having bought her books about spycraft. She often helped out in the pub when herfather thought her old enough, and it was there she learned many things. James is an easy going man who enjoys being a good host.
VivianMcLaren.jpg Vivian McLaren
Mother
Vivian McLaren is the owner of a small florists shop. While she had hoped the Solaris would follow in her footsteps, she has been nothing but supportive of her daughter's goals in life. Vivian has always been the voice of reason in Solaris' life, trying to keep her well balanced, teaching her about many things including her Celtic heritage.
Luna(pet).jpg Luna
Pet
Luna is the McLaren family pet, though shes really more Solaris' dog than she is her parents. As a Siberian Husky, Luna is very smart and knows Sol, even across subspace, often popping up in the view screen when Sol calls home.
SibealDoyle.png Sibeal Doyle
Grandmother
Sibeal Doyle was Sol's grandmother. Though she never met her, Sol recently came in to ownership of some of her possessions. Sibeal served as Intelligence Officer and Second Officer aboard the U.S.S. Kongo, and later the first officer of the U.S.S. Kongo-A.
Relationships
SindaEssenUniform.png Sinda Essen
Girlfriend
Solaris first met Sinda during the Constitution's holiday party. They spent most of the night playing darts and getting to know each other, on the 2nd level of the ships bar. Things became more intimate between the pair during shore leave following the discovery of the USS Unity. Things have continued to grow between Essen and Solaris, leaving Sol slightly confused about Essen's intent, having originally thought Essen wasn't looking for a serious relationship. Sol later tracked down Essen on Starbase 104 and confessed her love to her.
Sherana Caelin.jpg Sherana
Friend
Sherana was the first person aboard the Constitution that Solaris had even spoken to at length about anything. Sherana requested help from Solaris in finding her parents location. Sol was able to help Sherana reconnect with her parents. The pair shared a couple of dances at the 2393 Constitution family reunion.

Early life and U.S.S. Columbia

Solaris was born in the city of Belfast on Earth. Her father, James McLaren is the owner of a pub, imaginatively named 'McLaren's'. Her mother, Vivian McLaren, owns a small florist's shop.

As an only child she was a loner, often found reading books or listening to music. During her secondary education she became fascinated with spycraft, reading many books on the subject though most of them romanticized the field, and by the time she had entered high school she had decided to pursue the intelligence field. In addition to this, during her middle and high school careers she began learning to play the trombone and continues to play regularly. In her free time after school, she often helped out at her fathers pub, much to her mothers dismay.

Almost directly after high school, Solaris enrolled in Starfleet Academy.

During her time at the Academy she was a middling student, having found out that the intelligence field wasnt as action packed and romantic as it had been in her books. Her grades weren't the best, but it was found that she had particular aptitude for espionage. As such she graduated the academy with a major in Intelligence.

On Stardate 239210.12, just after graduating from Starfleet Academy, Solaris was assigned to the USS Columbia, a Nebula-class starship operating in the Trinity and Serellan sectors. It was her first posting as an Intelligence officer. It was there she assisted the crew in investigating the Romulan Republic colony of Freedom's Hope.

U.S.S. Constitution-B

Shortly after her mission to Freedom's Hope, Columbia was rotated to inactive status within the fleet. Solaris was then assigned to the U.S.S. Constitution on Stardate 239211.15, as an Intelligence Officer. On her first mission aboard the Constitution, the ship was thrown back to the year 1914, just before the outbreak of World War I. Solaris was present, in orbit of Earth, as the first shots of the war were fired. Upon the ships return to the present, the ships crew was debriefed by Starfleet Intelligence, and cleared of any wrong doing. Solaris was awarded the Defense of Temporal Flow Ribbon for her actions in preserving the time line, and the Prometheus Ribbon for assisting in the cleanup of the Prometheus Incident.

Not content with being around for only one historical event, the Constitution picked up a distress call from the U.S.S. Unity, an Oberth-class science vessel that had been presumed lost for over a century. The Constitution was dispatched to the Betreka Nebula to ascertain the status of the vessel. Upon arrival in the Betreka Nebula, the Constitution discovered the long lost U.S.S. Unity adrift. The ship was long since deserted and a hostile entity occupied it. Solaris accompanied an away team to the ship, in an attempt to learn just what had happened to the Oberth-class vessel. Upon her return to the Constitution and the ships subsequent departure from the Nebula, Solaris was promoted to Lieutenant JG and given the position of Chief Intelligence Officer. She was also awarded with a Captain's Commendation Ribbon for her actions while aboard the Unity.

After arriving at Starbase 11 after the discovery of Unity, and a short period of shore leave, (spent in the company of her friend Sinda Essen), the Constitution was contacted by a Suliban woman, who requested the ships help with the investigation of a murder. The Constitution set out for the planet Lerayn and Solaris was tasked with helping prepare a threat assessment on possible suspects. Upon arrival at the planet 2 members of the crew, and the Suliban woman Akana were beamed off the ship to an unknown location on the planet below. Solaris accompanied Sinda Essen and Tad Cooper to find them and bring them back. Once they had been found, Akana attacked the two crewmen and Solaris attempted to disarm her before she could shoot Sinda. She was shot in the side during the ensuing scuffle. The crew soon discovered that Akana had been brainwashed to commit the murder herself, she and another Suliban were admitted to the psychiatric facilites at Starbase 11, and with no reason to hold them, the other Suliban were returned to their planet, to face their own societies justice system. The Constitution then returned to Starbase 11, for some well deserved shore leave.

The downtime after the Constitution's mission to the planet Lerayn provided the crew with some much needed rest, and saw Solaris awarded her first, and hopefully only, Purple Heart as well as the Gold Lifesaving Ribbon, for her attempt to disarm Akana, and her resultant wound. The senior staff enjoyed a night of pizza and bowling, which also saw Solaris grow more confused about her blossoming relationship with Sinda. Rest was short, and the Constitution was soon called upon to assist a group of Dokkaran's in resettling to a new planet, because their current one had become poisoned, and as a result, was also poisoning them. Enroute to the new planet, Dagorin VI, a probe launched by the Constitution picked up an unknown signal, which alerted the crew to possible involvement of the long thought dead Orion Syndicate, and upon searching the Dokkaran transports, a tracking device was discovered, leading to another mystery.

Upon arrive in orbit of the planet, Solaris accompanied an away team to the surface to scout the planet out for possible settlement by the Dokkarans. After a short look around, accompanying the Dokkaran scientist, Merina Lirane, the team regrouped to discuss their findings and decide a further course of action. The team split up again and Solaris' group, consisted of herself, Doctor Wyn Foster, Merina and Lt. Gina Es-Aleh went searching again. The group discovered a section of forest where the trees has been cut open, apparently being harvested of their sap, which had was discovered to be a powerful narcotic. The group was then ambushed by a pair from the Orion Syndicate and captured. They were taken to the Syndicate's underground bunker.

Upon waking up, Solaris found herself and part of her group contained in a cell, with Merina no where to be seen. An Orion and Ferengi soon arrived to question them, resulting in Gina being beaten and taken from their cell. An alarm was soon sounded and, using the resulting confusion, Solaris and Doctor Foster escaped from the cell, in an effort to find their team and escape the bunker. Along the way they reunited with Gina, and running into the Orion from before. Doctor Foster was hit by a blast form the Orion's disruptor, leaving Solaris in charge for the time being. She carried Foster and Gina lead them to a control room where they found the Ferengi and Merina. With the bunker set to self destruct, time was running out for the group. Merina managed to shut down the dampening field keeping them from contacting their ship and Foster managed to knock out the Ferengi. Shortly before the self destruct went off the Constitution was able to beam the away teams up.

After the Constitution helped the Dokkarans get settled, the Constitution returned to Starbase 11 for some well deserved shoreleave, where members of the crew, including Solaris, were surprised to find that Starfleet had invited their families for a family reunion. Upon discovering that her friend Sinda Essen was departing on a secret mission Sol offered to go with her, but ultimately stayed behind in case she needed call in the cavalry. Sol enjoyed the reunion in the meantime, but was constantly worried about Essen. She was happy about getting to see her parents in person for the first time since she had graduated the academy. She also shared a couple of dances with the ships botanist, Sherana.

After the reunion, the Constitution was transferred to Starbase 104 inorder to help facilitate peace talks between two new Federation members, the Linara and the Hinji. Soon after the talks got underway, a pandemic spread through the station. Sol found herself in command of the Constitution when the station requested her assistance. Sol mobilized the Constitution's departments and corrdinated their efforts while the station crew was spread thin. While Solaris wasnt a direct part of the peace talks aboard Starbase 104, the mission did provide her with her first taste of true command.

During the Constitution's shoreleave between missions Sol and her department accepted delivery of a Flyer-class shuttle, having previously been requisitioned by herself and Captain Rajel in order to better augment the Constitution's intelligence gathering capabilities. The shuttle, dubbed the Spectre was intended to become the fleets first intelligence prowler, undergoing the beginnings of a drastic modification to render it more capable of gather information while remaining undetected, at the cost of its weapons. It was also during this time that Sol expressed her desire to move further into a command role while also maintaining her intelligence duties.

The Constitution's next mission found the crew departing for Leron III, the homeworld of the Hinji in order to provide humanitarian support for the races over crowded homeworld. In from by the ship's XO, Maxwell Traenor of a sensor blind spot, approximately 10km in diameter, on the planet's surface Solaris was assigned to lead an away team to determine the cause of this blind spot. She, along with Jerry Milsap, T'Reshik, Choi Ji-hu and Lara Grayson departed the Constitution in the shuttle Esienhorn to scout out the blind spot. Upon crossing into the area of the blind spot their shuttle lost power and crashed on the surface or Leron III with no power and no way of communicating with their ship. It was then that it was discovered that Georgio, a sentient hologram fromt he Constitution had stowed away on the shuttle as well. The team sustained minor injuries, with Sol sustaining a broken arm. As they departed the shuttle to make their way to the near by Tirthal Displacement Camp, the group was approached by a cat-like creature, which brought a stick with it. It left the stick and darted off into the forest in the direction the away team was planning to go. Upon entering the forest the away team was met by a preacher who mistook Solaris for a reincarnation of their goddess, the Sunmother. He lead the away team to a monastery located within the interference field. Upon arrival at the monastery the away team were treated to a feast where the return of the Sunmother was revealed.

The following morning after a lukewarm reception at the feast, an angry mob set fire to portions of the monastery trying to find the away team. Holed up in the monastery's main sanctum the away team discovered a secret entrance located under a statue of the Sunmother. Seeing no other way out of their situation the team headed down into the passage, discovering an alien facility. Making their way to the facilities control room, the team discovered that the original Sunmother was from an alien race and that she had given the Hinji sentience and discovered that the interference field was intended to have kept the Hinji safe from the dangers of technology and was intended to cover the whole planet. It was here that Sol discovered a lost part of her ancestry, discovering that she was related to the Sunmother. The team shut down the interference field and began to make their way out of the facility. Near the exit of the facility they encountered a rescue party sent to find them by the Constitution and due to the dissipating of the interference field, the Constitution was able to beam them all back to the ship.

During the period of shoreleave after Sol's away mission to Leron III, Sol returned to working on the Spectre. Shortly there after the entire senior staff was treated to a party in the holodeck. Unfortunately the holodeck suffered a malfunction locked the entire senior staff inside a medieval fantasy game. Shortly after this, Solaris was transferred to Starbase 118 as an Intelligence Officer.

Starbase 118

Upon joining the crew of Starbase 118, Solaris assisted in defending the Station from incursions by Devidians after the crew had discovered portions of a startship hull from 20 years prior and helped retrieve portions of the senior staff that had been transported into the past via a subspace anomaly.

Her next mission with Starbase 118 found the crew recovering the stations new support ship the U.S.S. Narendra from Romulan terrorists. Shortly after the recovery of the Narendra Sol was transferred to a new posting.

U.S.S. Apollo-A and return to Starbase 118

After her first tour on Starbase 118, Sol was transferred to the U.S.S. Apollo-A, which was bound for a mission into the Delta Quadrant. Unfortunately, just before the ship was due to depart she was again called away on another assignment. She spent the following 9 months working for Starfleet Intelligence on a classified assignment. She was then reassigned to Starbase 118 and joined the U.S.S. Narendra as it was completing its mission to Ishnag. The Narendra was then sent from Ishnag to a diplomatic conference in the Avendra system between the Gorn, the Klingon Empire, and the Federation where evidence of the Cult of Molor's involvement at Ishnag was to be presented to the meeting parties. During a shuttle ride to the meeting place, Solaris and some of the senior staff, including the Captain, were ambushed by a cult controlled B'Rel-class Bird of Prey. They crash landed on the surface of Avendra V, a P-class planet. Cut off from the ship in orbit above, the crew had to survive until a rescue party could reach them. Sol provided testimony about the Cult trying to stop them from reaching the diplomatic conference, before the Narendra returned to Statbase 118 for some much needed shoreleave. Solaris, however, felt atleast partially responsible for the events of the mission as several Cult members infiltrated the crew of the Narendra and murdered several of them, leaving her worried that if Starbase 118's Intelligence Division had missed that, that there could be more infiltrators on the Starbase itself.

After the mission to Avendra, Sol was made Director of Intelligence aboard Starbase 118 shortly before the crew departed for Earth to escort Ambassador Vananth for a meeting at Starfleet Command. During the mission to Earth, Sol along with a pair of other officers (Lt. Commander Arturo Maxwell and Ensign Alastriona DeTroyes) were sent to a Federation prison facility located in Siberia to interview former Commodore Allan Kinney about his ties to the Orion Syndicate in efforts to discover how the Cult of Molor was operating. During her time there the prison was infiltrated by a group of mercenaries looking to break Kinney out and keep him for speaking to them. During this attempt Sol was severely stunned, and suffered injuries in the ensuing fight but was able to ensure that Kinney wasnt taken.

After the mission on Earth, Sol was promoted to Lieutenant Commander.
