After the destruction of Romulus and Remus in 2388, the USS Thunder, a Cheyenne Class starship, under the command of Captain Toni Turner was commissioned and dispatched to the Duronis System to help protect the Laudeans from renegade Romulans, the Tal Shiar, and others who would pose a threat. Turner, a brash new Captain, had served at the Embassy early in her career, and knew how vulnerable the Laudeans were to outside influences. She eagerly took on the task.
In 2389, when the Klingon Invasion reached Duronis II, the USS Thunder was lost in the defense of the planet. She was replaced by the USS Thunder-A.
