Emisa III

Overview

Emisa iii.jpg

Emisa III is a Planet in a remote section of the Alpha Isles. It was first described and played a large role in the mission Tangent on the USS Arrow.

The planet was the origin of the Emisan people. The society developed early space flight capabilities and established a base on a habitable Moon of the planet. Shortly thereafter, war broke out on the planet and only a few Emisans survived on Emisa III. Their technological state reverted and they lived in bands or tribes underground or in a few old domes that remained on the surface.

After the final mission of the USS Arrow, the Emisan population was relocated to Hixoraa.

Emisa III Civilization

Prior to the wars, which took place approximately 850 years ago, the Emisans had technology on par with Earth in the late 20th/early 21st century. The moon colony was started at about this same time. Once the wars destroyed the surface of the planet, the planetary population lost access to most technology and the planet and moon Emisan cultures diverged.

Moon Civilization

The Moon population live in a single colony base/structure. Being founded by engineers, scientists, and military Emisans, it is a technologically advanced culture and they are conducting early Warp Engine trials. Only a few of their leadership knew of anyone living on the planet below. To maintain their somewhat luxurious lifestyle on the moon, they had remote strip-mining devices placed on Emisa III. The moon leadership did not concern themselves with the fact that these devices were causing further ecological collapse and calamities on the surface, harming many of the Emisans still living there.

Emisa III History

≈1200 Years Prior: Emisa III is a thriving world. Approximately 5 billion inhabitants. Planetary Development Scale D. (Earth, first world nations, around 1850) Heavy focus on arts, culture, music, theater. The planet is ruled by 4 large nation-states, each generally covering one of the 4 main continents. (Kyrenning, Maridus, Saretis, and Glinyu)

≈1000 Years Prior: 6 billion inhabitants on the 4 continents. Planetary Development Scale E-. (Earth, 1950’s-60’s technology). Cultural achievements are relegated to secondary status. Now there is a focus on large industrialization and technology. The 4 nation states start to quarrel over resources, which are not normally distributed between the continents.

≈950 Years Prior: Open planetary war between the 4 nation states. Planetary Development Scale E. Atomics discovered. Resources allocation is the stated issue for the wars. Many records are lost. Solondë, a main cultural center and one of the largest cities on the planet, is destroyed in a nuclear attack. Planetary population 4.5 billion. Saretis, one of the nation states, begins lunar exploration of the sole habitable moon. (There are 2 other moons for 3 total, but only 1 is livable.) Planetary Development Scale F.

≈930 Years Prior: One nation state, Kyrenning, is prevailing in the wars. Tactical nuclear attacks are endemic. Two of the smaller nation states, Saretis and Glinyu, join forces to delay Kyrenning’s victory and join together to build a lunar colony. Kyrenning’s early space flight city is destroyed in a nuclear barrage and many surviving Kyrenning space scientists are killed in assassinations. Maridus, the smallest nation state, surrenders to Kyrenning and is incorporated into the victor’s holdings.

≈910 Years Prior: Saretis and Glinyu’s colonies on the moon are self-sustaining. Development Scale F+ on the lunar colonies.

≈900 Years Prior: Glinyu surrenders unconditionally to Kyrenning. Population subjugated and enslaved.

≈840 Years Prior: In the face of an imminent Kyrenning victory, Saretis engages in a full unrestricted nuclear war. Sending off as many scientists, engineers, and other citizens to the lunar colony, they send this last message to Kyrenning and the lunar colony: “The people of Saretis will never know what it is to live under Kyrenning oppression. We choose death.” Kyrenning returns the nuclear volleys. Massive death and ecological collapse. Population centers destroyed. The Kyrenning were not prepared for this outcome. Governmental and societal collapse. The remaining small population moves underground to escape the contamination. Technology reverts to a more primitive level. People are living in small bands or tribes.

≈830 Years Prior: The lunar colony, after several attempts at contact, declares Emisa III a dead world. A unique culture starts to develop on the moon. They are focused on technology and engineering to the exclusion of most everything else.

≈700 Years Prior: The Lunar colony, now renamed Aladam, develops a fusion reactor technology that is highly efficient and powerful. It requires a mineral called Rhinidine. Supplies of it are rare in Aladam.

≈650 Years Prior: Aladam scientists discover huge Rhinidine deposits on Emisa III. In Aladami culture, the homeworld is considered a dead end. (Nothing good ever happened there except for the leaving of it.) Sending people there would be a crime. Automated mining platforms are developed as a useful alternative. Aladami leadership does not think there is anyone living on Emisa III.

≈500 Years Prior: Emisan population struggles to recover, being limited to the caves and underground structures. Technology has reverted to roughly the steam age, in Human terms. (Aladami development is much higher) The first mining platforms reach Emisan underground population centers. Thousands killed. Aladam is not aware.

≈450 Years Prior: Aladam engineers and scientists realize people are living on Emisa III, their own species. Threatened by this, Aladami leadership suppresses the information. Rhinidine mining keeps their society running. Plus the leaders of the “enlightened” Aladami leaders regard anyone living on Emisa III as likely warmongers and extremely dangerous. Plus they might have loyalties to the old nation states and they can’t let that affect the evolved Aladami culture.

≈400 Years Prior: Some Emisan tribes become convinced that life exists on the moon. A religious movement begins, praying to the moon people in the belief that they will come and save them. They call themselves Rodonthi, or “Those with Heart”. These tribes war on those who don’t believe. (“Once we all believe, the Moon People will save us. Unbelievers must convert or be slain.”)

≈400 Years Prior to about 100 years prior: War rages between the tribes on Emisa III, mostly underground. Some wars are still religious in nature, but there are also wars for resources, space, and for getting bits of old technology that are still working. Famines and deaths due to mining are common. Aladami leadership suppresses all knowledge of Emisan habitation. Mining continues.

≈50 Years Prior: Emisans have consolidated into 3 main tribes. The Rodonthi are still a force, praying to the moon people for mercy and in the hope that they will reestablish Emisan preeminence. The Arosath are isolationist, even from the other Emisans. The Kurmishoi are the largest and were consolidated by the efforts of Mellonis Kor, a tribal leader from the southern region. They hope to stop the mining and restore Emisan culture. They hold the Rodonthi as religious zealots and ignore the Arosath. The Kurmishoi live in caves and some in a few small domes on the surface. They are pragmatic and curt.

Class Y Planet

  • Class: Formerly a Class M Planet, reclassified as a Class Y Planet (inhospitable to life)
  • Planetary Cycle: A little longer than Earth’s cycles - 1 Cycle ca. 1.25 Earth years
  • Inhabitants: Void of all life forms at the present.

Land

Emisa III was once a green and vibrant world with many life forms and stunning natural assets. Once the wars destroyed everything, it became a barren wasteland and the remaining Emisans lived underground or in a few domes on the surface.

Weather

The planet is now plagued with radioactive rain, contaminated water, storms, and quakes.

Water

There are no bodies of water remaining on the surface.

Flora & Fauna

Their used to be a large amount of life on the surface, both plant and animal, but there is no more.
