A great expanse encompassing a region between the borders of the Federation, Gorn Confederacy, Tzenkethi Hegmony and near the tip of Tholian space within the Alpha Quadrant, largely still unknown despite the advances of what was originally the T-DI (Taskforce Discovery) Fleet of Starbase 118. It also hosts both the Klingons as well as the Romulans in various capacities.
With the advance of the original ships assigned to the region under Rear Admiral Hollis Calley, the region is one of the most politically active and sometimes controversial areas where a growing number of Starfleet and Federation facilities and ships are located. Pioneers of the Fleet include the decommissioned USS Kodiak, the recently destroyed USS Independence (*see Battle for DS17), the USS Hammond, the USS Triumphant, and later the USS Wallace along with USS Darwin.
The current Fleet encompasses the USS Ursa Major, the recommissioned USS Ronin, and the USS Independence-A, along with the Deep Space 17 (DS17) starbase orbiting within the Eratis System. The USS Triumphant was active in the region until its decommission in 2384.
Astrometry
The Ithassa Region is a vast expanse of space, covering a volume of 15000000^3 light years. This region is dictated by boundaries marking out a cuboid in space of 500x1000x30 light years. At Warp 9, the region takes approximately 1000 days to cross.
History
It’s called the Chavesss Sector by the Gorn, but the discovery is attributed to astrophysicist Sjori Ithassa. Officially, the first exploration vehicle by Starfleet has little by way of chain of events as to assignments, with the notable exception of the starbase Deep Space 17, which was commissioned in 2312 (and decommissioned in 2339).
The Tomed Incident with the Romulans resulted in the redeployment of Starfleet resources, which is believed to have attributed to the abandonment of the region until much later, toward the end of 2379 and beginning of 2380.

Planets, Regions & Systems
3A9
A planet originally home to a Tzenkethi research station facility which was destroyed.
Aronis Sector
A sector of magnetic shoals and high radiation, mapped by the USS Kodiak.
Eratis System
Encompassing a vast asteroid environment and assorted gases orbiting around a neutron star. It is also the home of Deep Space 17.
Igloo Cluster (IC-93)
A region that’s home to ninty-three (93) compact systems and a central area / home to many of the Grendellai (see The One Kingdom.
Furies Furnace
A section of space which is highly volatile, carrying a substance through a major expanse of asteroid bodies which is corrosive to metal, and renders starship sensors useless. Known as a popular trade route for member races of the Free Trade Union.
7AE38
A semi isolated region of space, dominated by a dense asteroid field. The system is home to a single M-Class planet whos inhabitants were thought to be at an industrial age of development. Around stardate 238407.10 the system was chosen by the USS Ronin as a testing area for three prototype fighters. During the tests it was discovered that the natives to the planet, the Sya-Negan, had developed warp technology.
T8A
Not much is known, but it’s reputated to be a pleasure planet of sorts.
Governments & Alliances
Neighboring Powers
Tzenkethi
The Tzenkethi are known to be active in the region. Further information on Tzenkethi involvement in the Ithassa Region is classified by Starfleet Intelligence for Alpha-Two clearance and above.
The Gorn Confederacy
The other great power in Ithassa, the reptilian Gorn have been known to the Federation for 87 years. As one of the major neighboring powers, they have historically viewed the Ithassa Region as a part of their territory, as skirmishes between the powers and the Ithassa Region's inhabitants occur regularly. They have both sided with and against the Federation repeatedly over the years.
Significant antipathy exists between the One Kingdom and the Gorn Confederacy. The Gorn have been known to supply weapons and supplies to resistance cells of Grendellai within The One Kingdom. The Gorn deliberately sabotaged recent peace talks hosted by then Rear Admiral Hollis, and later would send an invasion force into the Ithassa to reclaim what was perceived as their territory which cultimated in the Battle for DS17 in the summer of 2383.
Tholians
Toward the outer rim of the Ithassa Region, the Tholians do venture into the region.
The Klingons
Four hundred years ago, before the rise of the warrior culture in the Klingon Empire, at the command of Emperor Devoth, a group of explorers set out to discover what they could about the galaxy. They were led by C'tran, founder of the house of C'tran. He took with him seventeen ships on a voyage that lasted ten years. Part way through, the fleet encountered some magnetic shoals, and the ships were wrecked on an unknown planet. With no way of taking the shipwrecked with them on their already overcrowded fleet, the fleet departed, promising to send help as soon as they could.
When the fleet returned to Qo'nos, a change in leadership had occurred. Emperor Devoth had been deposed and a new emperor, Kortath, had replaced him. It was he who first encouraged the ascent of the warrior cult. Most of C'tran's discoveries were destroyed, and C'tran himself, sidelined.
The Kodiak discovered this colony during a routine charting mission of the Aronis Sector. Klingons High Command was notified. The Klingons in this sector are at a pre-space flight level of development, and have evolved a totalitarian and aggressive system of government.
Other Species
Other species are known to exist in the Ithassa Region, but they are yet to be encountered in significant numbers and may or may not possess warp technology.
