Short Bio

Hi, I'm Keegan! My Primary Character is Robin Hopper (Chief Science Officer, Amity Outpost) and my Secondary Character is Gabriel Osuna (Chief Security Officer, USS Artemis). I also have an ever-growing and changing roster of oddball side characters that I love dearly. My original Primary character when I joined SB118 - and the namesake of my username - is Kivik (Chief Science Officer, USS Kitty Hawk).

I was born and raised in Vancouver, BC, on Canada's West Coast (and still live there today - though whooo is it ever getting expensive!) I was initially introduced to Star Trek at a young age, watching TNG with my dad (at the time, I didn't really understand what it was and called the show "Saturn" for the ringed planet in it's opener). Since then, I've taken in and enjoyed most other Trek series and films - though Deep Space Nine and Prodigy remain rather glaring 'blind spots' that I am working to catch up on. Despite all this, I've never really considered myself a "Trekkie" - but more of a general fan of science fiction and fantasy.

Some of my favourite Sci Fi & Fantasy series/properties include:

  • Star Trek (of course)
  • Battlestar Galactica
  • Stargate
  • Alien(s)
  • Lord of the Rings

I've been roleplaying since I was about 12 years old - getting started with forum-based RPs based on the Lord of the Rings and Diablo universes. Later, as a teenager, I'd also join a number Battlestar-inspired forum RPs and start my own Aliens-based RP. This was also when I got my first taste of tabletop roleplaying (White Wolf's World of Darkness game and expansions). I tried D&D for the first time properly as an adult and during the COVID-19 Pandemic Lockdowns I started learning more about D&D, eventually deciding to GM my own campaign which ran for over two years.

Here on 118, in addition to just having fun, I'm interested in exploring diverse identities and character traits through my characters and developing the histories of lesser-known species and worlds. You can check out my Lower Decks Interview (from when my Primary Character was Kivik) to learn more about me and my goals at that time.

Character Roster

"Amity Outpost is supposed to be a station with 2,245 people, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Keegan, Kivik's writer, someday ends up writing for half of them."

The above, while a slight exaggeration, is still an excellent joke. I enjoy creating characters, playing from a variety of perspectives. My current roster of characters, including my Primary Character, Secondary Character, Personal Non-Player Characters (PNPCs), Mission-Specific PNPCs (MSPNPCs), and other side characters, can be found below.

Activities, Awards, & Achivements

"This year I would like to give a commendation to Keegan, the writer behind Kivik/Robin Hopper. He has been one of the most reliable people in image production, a continuous source of inspiration and information, always looking for new techniques and sharing them with wilfulness and passion. On an artistic level, he has made several of my favourite images this year and I have seen him improve image by image and grow as an artist by leaps and bounds. Not only that, but his presence has been a continuous source of optimism, encouragement, and enthusiasm and embodies many of the best skills and characteristics that a drone in the collective (and an artist) should have. The image collective is better off having him with us!"

Player Awards (OOC)

"This year, I’m delighted to induct Robin Hopper into The Order of Starfleet Merit and Achievement. Keegan, the writer behind Hopper, has truly gone above and beyond this past year, continuing to sim all of his characters wonderfully while he’s expanded in his responsibilities as a staff member for Amity, mentoring new ensigns and attending to the station’s wiki needs.

As one nominator wrote, “His sims are a delight to read, there is so much depth to his characters, and you can see their development happening right in front of your eyes. From Hopper to Summerside to Polgonz, these characters are so different and sometimes you have to remind yourself that they are written by the same person. The formatting of his sims are exemplary, and it's obvious he takes care writing them and making sure they are correct and easy to read.”

Keegan furthermore contributes greatly behind the scenes with his creativity during brainstorming sessions, suggesting ideas that turn into mission proposals and twists that always keep in mind finding ways for others to have fun and feel like they have equal opportunities to contribute to the greater storyline.

He is a talented writer, dedicated ship staff member, and just a delightful person to chat with. I know this award is just the first of many in his future as he continues to forge a path ahead as one of StarBase 118’s brightest stars. Congratulations, Keegan!"
