As a child, her parents often took Ayiana and her sister Aleesia to the library and museum.  It was these trips that first instilled a love of science in the young Trill.  Ayiana spent many days playing or relaxing on the beach.</p>

Within half a year upon being posted to her first assignment, the ''[[Victory|U.S.S. Victory]]'', Ayiana was a Lieutenant and Chief of the Science Department. At first, Ayiana was reluctant, and pretty overwhelmed, with the prospect of running an entire department. However she eventually became satisfied with the position. She has not ruled out the possibility of command one day. In fact, her dream is to one day command a ''Vesta-''class starship.</p>


<p>With her newfound interest in becoming Joined, Ayiana had to strive harder than ever to prove herself. Reaching adult age (roughly 18 Earth years old) she was accepted to the satellite campus of Starfleet Academy at the Trill Science Ministry. Ayiana would be the first host of Sevo to join Starfleet.</p>


<p>At the age of 23, she spent a few weeks being evaluated under a Joined field docent. She was given a good recommendation and was accepted for Joining. It took nearly a year find a suitable Symbiont to match her with. In the meantime, Ayiana continued her studies at Starfleet Academy. The symbiont Sevo shared a similar interest in the sciences - one of its previous hosts was a chemist. Upon the death of Sevo’s third host, it was transferred to Ayiana at the start of her final Academy year at the age of 24.</p>
====Personal Achievements and Disappointments====
<p>Without a doubt, Ayiana's most important accomplishment was Joining. It is an incredibly difficult and arduous path to be chosen, and almost all applicants fail or drop out. While she thought the Joining would be completely beneficial to her, Ayiana eventually discovered that there was a lot more to being Joined than simply gaining memories of past lives. She also acquired the positive and negative aspects of each prior hosts' personalities; from gaining the ability to understand music, to a fear of claustrophobia. It is important to note that this last trait was given to Ayiana not from a previous host, but from the symbiont Sevo itself. It became claustrophobic (or acquired the symbiont-equivalent trait) before it was first Joined. The trait was slightly expressed in subsequent hosts, but claustrophobia did not become overwhelmingly prevalent until it manifested in Ayiana.</p>

<p>Ayiana's first quarters on board the ''Victory'' were small and sparse. She retained her small Ensign quarters throughout her short time aboard, and never had the opportunity to personalize it.</p>

She had a small statue of the ancient Trill goddess of knowledge and wisdom; not out of religion, but more as a reminder of her scientific obligations. Ayiana also purchased a small keyboard, which she placed in her bedroom. Her work desk was the most personalized. Above it held a large photo of the planet Trill. On the left wall hung a metal sculpture of the Trill logo, Ayiana's Academy diploma, and official Starfleet photographs of Jadzia Daz and Ezri Dax. Dax - particularly Jadzia - had been idols of Ayiana since she was a child. She kept the photos by her desk to often remind herself what Jadzia would do in her situation.</p>

<p>During her time attending Starfleet Academy on Trill, Ayiana participated in the Academy's Cultural Exchange Subspace Friend program.  She communicated regularly with a Human cadet named [[Peters,_Cadfael|Cadfael Peters]] from Earth Academy.  The universe had a sense of humor, it seemed, as they were both posted to the ''[[Victory|U.S.S. Victory]]'' within weeks of each other.  Their first meeting was during a combat away mission a day into her posting.</p>


<p>Their second mission together - first contact with the [[Orthica's_Bane|Sunak]] - ended with Peters injured and Ayiana comatose.  During that time, Cadfael stayed by Ayiana's side in sickbay whenever he was off-duty, even putting his "good-luck" watch on her wrist.  After Ayiana had woken from her coma, Cadfael had declared his love to her.</p>

<p>Ayiana was immediately impressed with the stoic Angosian science officer when he first came aboard the ''Victory.''  He was incredibly logical and very smart. In addition, he had excellent organizational skills which helped Ayiana immensely in running the science department, as she was not very orderly. In the short time she has come to know Tarsii, she has come to highly respect the man for his intelligence and professional skills. Ayiana regards him as one of her most important colleagues and a close friend. Sadly, their relationship was halted when Tarsii was abruptly reassigned to another ship.</p>

<p>Ayiana was raised in the standard Trill setting. She had two loving parents and a younger sister, Aleesia. She would often spend her time on the beach or visiting museums and libraries. In fact, it was her parents' encouragement that led Ayiana to the sciences.</p>


<p>Captain Nugra has been instrumental in Ayiana's budding Starfleet career. Upon sudden transfer of the ''Victory's'' former Chief Science Officer, Captain Nugra decided to promote Ayiana to the position as a newly-minted Lt. JG. While she had doubts herself about the responsibilities of commanding a department, Nugra thought she would do well. He was right. A few months later, Nugra yet again surprised Ayiana by promoting her to full Lieutenant. Ayiana was heartbroken to learn that Nugra would be giving up his command of the ''Victory'', and reassigning most of her crew to a new ship.</p>
<p>At first, she had no desire to be Joined, but was eventually persuaded to apply early in her Starfleet Academy career. Normally, this was too late to catch up on the work required, but Ayiana had always been an intelligent and studious child, so her grades and accomplishments were nearly on par with the Symbiosis Commission's entry requirements.</p>


<p>While Ayiana may not fully understand the reptilian Gorn, he has no doubt had a significant impact on her life and career. Thus she has come to respect Nugra immensely.</p>

Her pitfalls included subjects such as Federation Law, History, and combat. Ayiana took more than the minimum four years to graduate, as she studied dual specializations in Quantum Mechanics and Subspace Mechanics, necessitating an increased course load. <p>After a post-graduation summer cruise aboard a training vessel, Ayiana was assigned to the fleet based out of Starbase 118. Her first assignment was to the ''Intrepid''-class ''[[Victory|U.S.S. Victory]]''. She was thrown into the middle of a vicious struggle for the galaxy. After several months and the sudden departure of the ship's Chief Science Officer, Ayiana found herself as a Lieutenant in charge of the department.</p>


<p>While Ayiana was [[Ayiana_Sevo_Disjoined_Arc|comatose following an injury]], Talia Kaji used her telepathic abilities to enter Ayiana's mind in an attempt to discover the problem. It turned out Ayiana's symbiont, Sevo, was undergoing a psychotic breakdown caused by a traumatic pre-joined memory. Talia managed to navigate the strange dreamscape of Ayiana/Sevo's minds and managed to mend Sevo's mind; consequently allowing Sevo and Ayiana's minds to rejoin.</p>
<p>She continues that role on the much larger ''Sovereign''-class ''[[USS_Gorkon|U.S.S. Gorkon]]''. Ayiana is finding it difficult to keep up with the increased supervisory load of the ''Gorkon's'' science department, as it is over three times larger than the ''Victory's''; one which Ayiana was struggling to maintain as well.</p>
 
<p>This very deep and invasive mental probe left some sort of lingering telepathic connection between Ayiana and Talia, despite the fact that Ayiana, as a Trill, has very limited telepathic abilities. The pair recently discovered that they could "feel" each other in close proximity, and Ayiana's surface thoughts were surprisingly easy to read for Talia, even if she wasn't trying. Bursts of emotion from one was felt particularly powerfully on the other. The two planned to experiment with this newfound connection to see how far they could push this unique relationship. In a way, Ayiana feels this telepathic link has brought her closer to Talia. When Talia was presumed dead on an away mission, Ayiana felt a deep emotional loss, which she couldn't explain at the time.</p>

<p>Ayiana had not yet decided on a major by her second year at Starfleet Academy.  During a practical exam, her team's experiment went wrong.  Ayiana had to take charge of her team and quickly fixed the problem.  Afterwards, one of her favorite professors, Professor Inaki - himself a Joined Trill - urged her to study multiple science degrees, knowing she had a knack for math and science; even suggesting command someday, based on her budding leadership skills.  He also pointed out that more degrees under her belt was a better chance for being selected for Joining.</p>

<p>Ayiana graduated from the Trill campus of Starfleet Academy after seven years of study.  She studied and received doctorate degrees in Quantum Mechanics, Subspace Mechanics, and Astrophysics.  She spent the summer on a post-graduate training ship, getting hands-on training running a starship while circumnavigating the Federation.  Shortly afterwards, Ayiana was given her first permanent posting as Science Officer on board the ''U.S.S. Victory.''  She arrived at [[Starbase 118]] circa 239108.23 and spent a couple of days in training.  Ayiana finally arrived at the ''Victory'' on 239109.01 after a week-long shuttle ride to the remote region where the ship was situated. </p>
 
<p>Within her first hours on board, Ayiana was assigned to help defeat the imminent [[Victory_As_the_Future_Burns|Hunger Invasion]].  During two subsequent missions, Ayiana discovered the science behind the Hunger automaton's communications and developed a means of disrupting their signals.</p>
 
<p>After the Hunger Invasion, Ayiana was promoted to Chief Science Officer, filling the recently vacated post.  She felt she was too inexperienced and shy for such a demanding position, but Commander Nugra felt she could do it.  It turned out his instinct was right - while the crew was discussing ways to increase their sensor capabilities in search of a [[Nuvek|missing Cardassian ship]], Ayiana had come up with and presented radical new technologies for probes and communications based on quantum entanglement.  However, her designs can not be implemented unless the Victory undergoes a major refit.</p>
 
<p>Soon after the Sunak mission, the ''Victory'' was invited to the [[Embassy_of_Duronis_II|Duronis II Embassy]], under command of then-Fleet Captain [[Turner,_Toni|Toni Turner]].  Their first order of business: a promotion ceremony for Turner and then-Commander Nugra to Rear Admiral and Captain, respectively.  In the few months that Ayiana had served under him, she had grown to respect, if not fully understand, Captain Nugra.</p>
 
<p>The ceremony was followed by a joint mission with the Embassy staff to the nearby planet of [[Luxis III]].  She was temporarily assigned to the Embassy's starship, the ''[[USS_Thunder-A|U.S.S. Thunder-A]]'' to help the Laudeans survey the ocean world, and potentially install an undersea research base.  The mission was abruptly blown off course by the sudden appearance of a [[Prometheus_Incident|strange anomaly]] in orbit.  The anomaly emitted an extremely powerful electromagnetic pulse-like effect that devastated the ''Victory.''  Ayiana, onboard a Bolian submarine ship headed for Luxis III was instead diverted to assess the damage to the ''Victory.''  In the end, the ship had to end up being towed back to Sol.  At this time, Ayiana was unsure if the ''Victory'' would be repaired or scrapped.</p>
 
<p>While the ''Victory'' underwent a major refit at Utopia Planitia, Ayiana took a vacation to Earth, stopping at Spacedock before heading on to San Francisco.  She spent the next few days touring the city, learning about Humans and Earth.  Ayiana planned to spend the rest of her vacation on the beach, but only managed a couple of days of relaxation before she was abruptly recalled, along with the rest of the crew, for an [[Victory_Scourge_of_Romulus|urgent mission]] on board the experimental ship ''[[USS_Achilles|U.S.S. Achilles]]'' to Romulan space.</p>
 
<p>This mission saw the crew attempt to retrieve a set of stolen vials of [[Skyfire_Cure|Skyfire Virus]], presumably stolen by dissident Romulans. While the away team she was a part of was searching a hidden research laboratory, Ensigns [[Rosek,_Lael_Elizabeth|Lael Rosek]] and [[Tarna,_Janel|Janel Tarna]] were taken captive by unknown persons. Ayiana was the first to reach the location of their capture, but arrived moments too late. For the next few days, she was furious with herself for hesitation and unskilled in combat. When the opportunity arose to rescue the pair, Ayiana jumped at the chance. Along with [[Asmara,_Tarsii|Lt. Tarsii Asmara]], Ayiana was able to find and rescue Rosek and Tarna, as well as recover the stolen vials of the Skyfire Virus.</p>
 
<p>Ayiana's last mission aboard the ''Victory'' saw her commanding her first away team to the recently rediscovered 23rd-century Starfleet ship, the [[The_Spider%27s_Web_(Victory)#USS_Arrow|''U.S.S. Arrow'']]. It had disappeared near Tholian space almost a hundred years ago; no one knew why, though the Tholians were suspected. Commander Eerie and Lt. Sevo led separate away teams to the ship, lost in an asteroid field.  This was no coincidence, as the Tholians had purposely set adrift the ship in this field due to the field's unique characteristic of blinding sensors. The ''Victory'' could not tell that it was an ambush until it was too late. While Ayiana was on board the ''Arrow'', with the help of Crewman [[Shedet]], she managed to download much of the ship's information about its mission and the experimental Tholian web weapon that crippled it and killed the crew - the same weapon now used against the ''Victory.''</p>
 
<p>Afterwards, Ayiana made it to the bridge of the ''Arrow'' to try and gain control of the ship.  Unfortunately, the bridge had been commandeered by the Tholian 1st Lt. Takil and his loyal Chakuun soldiers. Ayiana was prepared to attempt diplomacy with them when the Tholian force abruptly left, apparently getting what they came for. To Ayiana's further bewilderment, just before they left, one of the Chakuun soldiers gave Ayiana a datachip containing a copy of the data they found - information regarding their experimental web.</p>

Personality

Ayiana's passion is science. She has always wondered how the world works. As a child, she would spend nights looking up at the stars. She can normally be found with her face buried in a PADD or book. Ayiana is particularly gifted in pattern recognition and attention to detail. Some of her ideas and theories are pretty ambitions, such as her work on improving her primary passion: Quantum Slipstream Drive. Fortunately, all the ships Ayiana has served on has had QSD installed, usually for the first time. Her dream is to one day command or serve on a Vesta-class starship.

She is introverted, shy and nervous, mostly in large groups. Ayiana has never liked social gatherings, preferring to spend her free time alone; usually reading a book or working on theories. When Ayiana has her mind on science, she can get pretty eccentric to the point of being oblivious to the otherwise obvious around her. While normally a shy talker, Ayiana opens up and speaks "technobabble" once she talks about a subject she likes.

At first, Ayiana was very reluctant to be in any sort of leadership position; mostly because of her shyness. Events quickly placed her in command of the science department on board the U.S.S. Victory. She was forced to learn to show strength and leadership quickly. For the most part, she lets her department do what they like, so long as it does not interfere with the current mission. After several months as department head, Ayiana has become comfortable in the role, but she still does not like to give orders.

Her most problematic issue is her claustrophobia; a rather unique case. Ayiana did not grow up with it, but instead acquired the fear of close spaces after being Joined with the symbiont, Sevo. For a couple of years, she didn't know why, until one mission early into her Starfleet career on board the Victory caused Ayiana to fall into a coma. With the help of Lt. Talia Kaji, Ayiana discovered that her claustrophobia originated with the symbiont Sevo. It had a traumatic pre-joined spawning period where it acquired the fear. It subsequently passed its claustrophobia on to its hosts, although Ayiana is the only one it has affected so drastically.

Hobbies and Pastimes

  • Academia: Ayiana is a fervent scientist; often reading up on the latest science journals and magazines.
  • Tech Enthusiast: She also is a hobbyist tech enthusiast; but no where near as knowledgeable as a professional engineer. Ayiana has a tricorder she has used since her early days at Starfleet Academy. Ayiana is always modifying and upgrading its hardware and software. It is probably better than the newest standard-issue tricorders today.
  • Reading: When not reading work-related material, Ayiana enjoys reading novels, particularly science fiction and fantasy.
  • Music: Sevo's first host, Lizara, was a professional concert pianist. Ayiana acquired the memories of Lizara upon Joining, but quickly discovered that having a skill and using a skill are two different things.
  • Swimming: Living in a coastal city, Ayiana gained an appreciation for the beach at an early age. She would often swim in the ocean, and subsequently at school. She also joined the Trill Campus of Starfleet Academy swim team, winning a few awards and medals during her time. Ayiana is most notably accomplished in the 400- and 800-meter swim lengths. After Joining, she gained increased agility and endurance, necessitating her reassignment to the Joined Women's Division.



Ambitions and Goals

Ayiana was never particularly ambitious, but circumstances very early in her Starfleet career quickly rocketed her up the ranks. Within half a year upon being posted to her first assignment, the U.S.S. Victory, Ayiana was a Lieutenant and Chief of the Science Department. At first, Ayiana was reluctant, and pretty overwhelmed, with the prospect of running an entire department. However she eventually became satisfied with the position. She has not ruled out the possibility of command one day. In fact, her dream is to one day command a Vesta-class starship.


Personal Achievements and Disappointments

Without a doubt, Ayiana's most important accomplishment was Joining. It is an incredibly difficult and arduous path to be chosen, and almost all applicants fail or drop out. While she thought the Joining would be completely beneficial to her, Ayiana eventually discovered that there was a lot more to being Joined than simply gaining memories of past lives. She also acquired the positive and negative aspects of each prior hosts' personalities; from gaining the ability to understand music, to a fear of claustrophobia. It is important to note that this last trait was given to Ayiana not from a previous host, but from the symbiont Sevo itself. It became claustrophobic (or acquired the symbiont-equivalent trait) before it was first Joined. The trait was slightly expressed in subsequent hosts, but claustrophobia did not become overwhelmingly prevalent until it manifested in Ayiana.

Being a bookworm and knowledge geek, Ayiana was thrilled to finally get her Starfleet diploma in multiple disciplines - namely Physics, specializing in Quantum Mechanics and Subspace Mechanics. She also received a minor in Astronomy.

Ayiana is particularly proud of her swimming skills, as it is a skill wholly her own, and not gifted by the Joining. During Starfleet Academy on Trill, Ayiana placed in the top five for the 400- and 800-meter laps, as well as being adept at diving.


Living Quarters

Ayiana's first quarters on board the Victory were small and sparse. She retained her small Ensign quarters throughout her short time aboard, and never had the opportunity to personalize it.

Her quarters on board the Gorkon were larger, more furnished, and more personalized. She had a small statue of the ancient Trill goddess of knowledge and wisdom; not out of religion, but more as a reminder of her scientific obligations. Ayiana also purchased a small keyboard, which she placed in her bedroom. Her work desk was the most personalized. Above it held a large photo of the planet Trill. On the left wall hung a metal sculpture of the Trill logo, Ayiana's Academy diploma, and official Starfleet photographs of Jadzia Daz and Ezri Dax. Dax - particularly Jadzia - had been idols of Ayiana since she was a child. She kept the photos by her desk to often remind herself what Jadzia would do in her situation.

Ayiana is quite introverted, and doesn't socialize very often, except for official ship functions. When she does partake in public places, she tends to keep to herself. She has never had any romantic relationships, except for a very brief one with Cadfael Peters aboard the Victory. However there have been a few people who have managed to break through her shields and form friendships with Ayiana; or at the very least gained her respect.

Ayiana was raised in the standard Trill setting. She had two loving parents and a younger sister, Aleesia. She would often spend her time on the beach or visiting museums and libraries. In fact, it was her parents' encouragement that led Ayiana to the sciences.

At first, she had no desire to be Joined, but was eventually persuaded to apply early in her Starfleet Academy career. Normally, this was too late to catch up on the work required, but Ayiana had always been an intelligent and studious child, so her grades and accomplishments were nearly on par with the Symbiosis Commission's entry requirements.

Following her childhood schooling, Ayiana was a particularly spirited student. She excelled in the sciences, as that had been her fascination since childhood. One exception was Biology. She just didn't like it; all that squishy stuff. Ayiana also excelled in math and technological disciplines such as computers and basic engineering. Her pitfalls included subjects such as Federation Law, History, and combat. Ayiana took more than the minimum four years to graduate, as she studied dual specializations in Quantum Mechanics and Subspace Mechanics, necessitating an increased course load. She eventually graduated within the top third of her class.

After a post-graduation summer cruise aboard a training vessel, Ayiana was assigned to the fleet based out of Starbase 118. Her first assignment was to the Intrepid-class U.S.S. Victory. She was thrown into the middle of a vicious struggle for the galaxy. After several months and the sudden departure of the ship's Chief Science Officer, Ayiana found herself as a Lieutenant in charge of the department.

She continues that role on the much larger Sovereign-class U.S.S. Gorkon. Ayiana is finding it difficult to keep up with the increased supervisory load of the Gorkon's science department, as it is over three times larger than the Victory's; one which Ayiana was struggling to maintain as well.
