Growing up, we continued watching Trek as a family and I was much more engaged with ''Voyager'' and ''Enterprise''. Nowadays, I dearly love ''Strange New Worlds'' and ''Lower Decks'', and tolerate the other shows with the type of good-natured love one has for family members that rub you the wrong way occasionally. I'm currently in the thick of a full watch-through of ''Deep Space Nine'' (which, until recently, had remained a pretty blatant 'blind spot' in my Trek knowledge).

Hey there! I'm Keegan, and my primary character is Lt. Cmdr Robin Hopper - Chief Science Officer and Second Officer of Amity Outpost. I also have a menagerie of oddball PNPCs and side characters, all of whom I love dearly. When I first joined SB118, my primary character (and the namesake of my username) was Kivik - now a PNPC and the Chief Science Officer aboard the USS Kitty Hawk.

I'm from Vancouver, on Canada's West Coast, and have somehow managed to stick out living there to this day (though wooo is it ever getting expensive!) I was first introduced to Star Trek at a young age, watching re-runs of The Next Generation with my dad. At the time, I didn't really understand a lot of what I was watching (I even called the show "Saturn" because of the ringed planet in the show's intro). Growing up, we continued watching Trek as a family and I was much more engaged with Voyager and Enterprise. Nowadays, I dearly love Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks, and tolerate the other shows with the type of good-natured love one has for family members that rub you the wrong way occasionally. I'm currently in the thick of a full watch-through of Deep Space Nine (which, until recently, had remained a pretty blatant 'blind spot' in my Trek knowledge).

I'm also a big fan of other sci fi franchises, like Battlestar Galactica, Stargate, Alien(s), and fantasy, such as Lord of the Rings, A Song of Ice & Fire / Game of Thrones, and so on. I've been roleplaying since I was about 12 years old, starting with forum-based RPs based on Lord of the Rings and Diablo - but got properly introduced to TTRPGS in high school with World of Darkness and Vampire: The Requiem. I tried Dungeons and Dragons for the first time properly as an adult and began DMing my own campaign during the COVID-19 lockdowns.

My approach to roleplaying here are to focus exploring characters as complex and diverse people first, and exploring their job / duty post second. I often take a lot of inspiration from IRL sources (myself / my own experiences, people I know, or even the face claims of the characters) and generally try to imagine I'm writing a real Trek show for real actors to play in. I'm also interested in using roleplay as a way to gain additional perspective on diverse identities and character traits as well as developing and 'grounding' world and species development. You can check out my Lower Decks Interview (from when my Primary Character was Kivik) to learn more about me and my goals at that time.

Characters

"Amity Outpost is supposed to be a station with 2,245 people, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Keegan, Kivik's writer, someday ends up writing for half of them."
Primary Character - Lt. Commander Robin Hopper
Hopper, circa 2400 Lt. Commander Robin Hopper is a Human/Centauran woman serving as Chief Science Officer and Second Officer aboard Amity Outpost.

Born and raised on the 'old frontier' world, Theta VII, Hopper grew up on her parents' hydroponic farm estate. She also lived on Earth while attending a Masters program at UC Berkeley and, subsequently, Starfleet Academy in San Francisco where she earned her doctorate in Physics. Her first posting was aboard the the Oracle-Class deep space science vessel, USS Wall Street, where she served as a Science Officer and as Assistant Chief Science Officer before transferring to Amity Outpost in 2399.

Her time aboard Amity has been eventful, to say the least. From rubbing shoulders with Betazoid Nobles, to squaring off with the Hirogen, to meeting her Mirror Universe Counterpart, Raven Hopper, there hasn't been a dull moment. In addition to her professional duties, Robin's stories are often centered on her personal life and relationships - most notably, her developing "situationship" with Nathan Richards, one of her closest friends and a long-term romantic interest.

Starfleet PNPCs

Civilian PNPCs

There are also a handful of what I would consider "side characters" I involve on a recurring basis, but whom aren't full-fledged PNPCs as far as I'm concerned. Characters like the Matriarch of the Twentieth House of Betazed, Seri Polgonz, or the relatable criminal clerk, Aaris Idar, the Hawlat Luminary, Prarim, and the aged Hirogen Alpha, Acherax.

Activities & Achievements

"This year I would like to give a commendation to Keegan, the writer behind Kivik/Robin Hopper. He has been one of the most reliable people in image production, a continuous source of inspiration and information, always looking for new techniques and sharing them with wilfulness and passion. On an artistic level, he has made several of my favourite images this year and I have seen him improve image by image and grow as an artist by leaps and bounds. Not only that, but his presence has been a continuous source of optimism, encouragement, and enthusiasm and embodies many of the best skills and characteristics that a drone in the collective (and an artist) should have. The image collective is better off having him with us!"

(OOC) Player Awards
"This year, I’m delighted to induct Robin Hopper into The Order of Starfleet Merit and Achievement. Keegan, the writer behind Hopper, has truly gone above and beyond this past year, continuing to sim all of his characters wonderfully while he’s expanded in his responsibilities as a staff member for Amity, mentoring new ensigns and attending to the station’s wiki needs.

As one nominator wrote, “His sims are a delight to read, there is so much depth to his characters, and you can see their development happening right in front of your eyes. From Hopper to Summerside to Polgonz, these characters are so different and sometimes you have to remind yourself that they are written by the same person. The formatting of his sims are exemplary, and it's obvious he takes care writing them and making sure they are correct and easy to read.”

Keegan furthermore contributes greatly behind the scenes with his creativity during brainstorming sessions, suggesting ideas that turn into mission proposals and twists that always keep in mind finding ways for others to have fun and feel like they have equal opportunities to contribute to the greater storyline.

He is a talented writer, dedicated ship staff member, and just a delightful person to chat with. I know this award is just the first of many in his future as he continues to forge a path ahead as one of StarBase 118’s brightest stars. Congratulations, Keegan!"
