Outpost 3 (also known as Coalition Outpost Loa) is a survey station usually located along the Mother Road, approximately seven lightyears away from Antor. The station is considered no bigger then a Saber class vessel.[1] In 2394, the Federation included Outpost 3 among other projects in an effort to improve infrastructure within the Shoals.[2]
Initially home to civilian surveyors tracking the movements of the Mother Road, the outpost was attacked by a band of Klingon pirates in mid-2394, resulting in the death of seven civilians and two of three Starfleet officers assigned to the station. Due to it's joint Coalition-Starfleet ownership, Marshal and Starfleet services were uncertain whom was to respond to the emergency - in addition, travel times in the Shoals made immediate assistance impossible, and survivors had to wait ten days before a single Starfleet officer arrived.
The Starfleet Corps of Engineers began to commit officers and resources to rebuild the station, with the assistance of civilian construction workers from Ketar V - as such, it is currently home to two Starfleet personnel and 8 civilian workers. It's scientific focus has instead shifted to circumventing the area's tetryon fields in hopes of improving long-range communications.
