The Eratis system is a small but important system within the Ithassa Region. With an old neutron star at its' heart, the system is dominated by the surrounding asteroid field. The prospect of studying the star, as well as a strategic location close to both Gorn and Tholian space, led to the construction of Deep Space 17 within the system in the 2310's.
The Federations' presence in the Ithassa Region is closely linked to its' history within this system, with the station being the centre of most Starfleet activity in the region. The Federations increasing presence in the 2380's led to a confrontation with the Gorn, who tried to invade the system in the Battle of Eratis in 2383.
