When Elijah Kovacs entered Starfleet Academy, he bore the weight of familial expectations. Being the son of two Starfleet admirals, there was an unspoken presumption that he would excel. However, Elijah was determined to pave his own path and not coast on the legacy of the Kovacs name. He chose to major in Advanced Warp Theory, feeling a deep connection to the intricacies of engineering and the vastness of space it unlocked. To stand out on his own ability, he undertook challenging projects, one of which involved optimizing warp coil efficiency which garnered attention from senior engineers at Utopia Planitia.

Outside the rigors of academia, Elijah found solace in extracurricular activities that kept him grounded. He joined the Academy's parrises squares team, a demanding sport that honed both his physical endurance and strategic thinking. It also taught him the value of teamwork and trusting one's teammates, a lesson he'd carry forward into his Starfleet career.
