Manner

Current quarters on the Constitution.
  • Quarters:

Maxwell's personal space is sparsely decorated, with a few exceptions. He is fond of the mountainous region of his homeworld, and hangs one or two landscape images around his quarters. As a personal reward for a promotion, Maxwell purchased a baby grand piano that dominates the floor space of the main room in his quarters. There is a replicated straw fedora that adorns the work desk. As well, he has a bottle of Saurian brandy prominently displayed, one that was received as a memento of an officer's exercise conducted on Starbase 118.

The private areas of his quarters are usually slightly unkempt, though rarely dirty. The bedclothes frequently remain rumpled and one or two duty uniforms may lie crumpled in a corner.

Maxwell prefers to keep muted lighting in his quarters, around 50 percent illumination. Also, he always has music in the background, usually instrumental or soft genres. The only exception is when he is at the piano himself, or sleeping.

Cherished holodeck program, a recreation of a bar on Alpha III.
  • Favorite Room:

Personal - Holodeck. One program in particular, a meticulously detailed recreation of a bar from Alpha III, where Maxwell spent his formative years as a teenager and young adult. The recreation is complete enough to include copies of the original proprietors, as well as select regular patrons. It is a private holoprogram, normally only accessible by Maxwell himself. In 2392, the program was irretrievably damaged when the Darwin sustained massive computer core damage. While in the process of trying to source the original programming and rebuild the cherished locale, Maxwell received a copy of the program that had been archived by a friend.

Professional - Astrometrics lab. The majority of Maxwell's career has been spent conducting cartographic work in astrometrics labs of various sizes and layouts at a number of Starfleet installations. Though rarely the lead researcher, he was at times integral to ongoing studies and learned the value of teamwork and delegation during his tenures in such workspaces.

Personal memento.
  • Habits: Taps items in the palm of his hand when concentrating or distracted
  • Religion/Spiritual Devotion: Undecided
  • Hobbies and Pastimes: Playing lounge-style piano
  • Likes: Saurian brandy
  • Dislikes: Pets, zero gravity, invasive surgery
  • Ambitions and Goals: To be published in a peer-reviewed journal
  • Achievements in Life: None notable
  • Disappointments in Life: His lack of focus and drive for the majority of his adult life
  • Temperment: Easygoing and slow to anger
  • Mental problems (complexes and phobias): None diagnosed
  • Physical Limitations: Former injury to right knee causes occasional discomfort and slight limping

Relationships

title=Traenorfamily
SamTraenor.jpg Samuel Traenor
Father
Age: 81

Maxwell's father is suffering from the advanced stages of Irumodic Syndrome, of which medication is barely keeping under control. Due to his increasingly violent and delusional behavior, he was moved from the family homeworld of Alpha III to a medical center on Earth in 2387, where his children could better care for him. His frail, temperamental nature contrasts sharply with the images of a strong, quiet, ever-smiling giant of a man that his family remembers.
EdenTraenor.jpg Eden Traenor
Mother
(deceased)
Age (at death): 42

Maxwell's mother defined and refined his musical and compassionate nature. She was a major artistic influence on Alpha III, as both a patron of the arts and as an artist and musician herself. She succumbed to complications from a genetic disorder in 2365.
KirstenTaylor.jpg Kirsten Eden Taylor
(nee Traenor)
Sister
Age: 52

Where Maxwell's personality came directly from his mother, his sister drew hers directly from their father. Strong, dependable, family-oriented, Kirsten is the backbone of the Traenor family. The two siblings have a strong relationship, though recent strains have left her exasperated with Maxwell's career choices and lack of devotion to family as of late.
DarrylTaylor.jpg Darryl Taylor
Brother in Law
Age: 54

A fellow Starfleet officer, Maxwell's brother in law is a research engineer for Starfleet R&D. He divides his work schedule between the departmental offices in San Francisco and Jupiter Station. The two have a casual familial relationship, sharing almost no common interests.
Cadettaylor.png Eden June Taylor
Niece
Age: 25

Maxwell shares a close relationship with his niece, only slightly tempered by her foray into adolescence. Fearless, outgoing, and energetic, she is everything that Maxwell is not; though they do share an irreverent sense of humor that exasperates her mother. She is starting to show a burgeoning interest in a Starfleet career.
Barque.gif Barque
Pet
Age: 9

Barque, a Terran beagle, was a gift to Maxwell from his niece Eden. Though Maxwell as a rule abhors the concept of pet ownership, the fact that Barque was a gift from his beloved niece and Barque's sweet, gregarious nature has warmed him to the exception. Generally well-trained and well-behaved, Barque still manages to be a handful sometimes.
title=Traenoracquaintances
RenosRed.png Renos
USS Darwin-A
Renos has a kind and gentle demeanor that has appealed to Maxwell from the first time they met, serving together on the Apollo-A. Through a series of social encounters, he has considered them to share a similar sense of trust and respect in each other. Their professional relationship transitioned into a personal friendship with romantic overtones, though a trying mission caused Maxwell to panic and withdraw.

Favorite Quote: In any case, I don’t think it’s right to sit here with 5 outstanding drinks and not try any of them, do you? It almost seems rude.
Liani.png Liani
USS Apollo-A
Though a fledgling relationship, Maxwell had quickly come to rely on Liani's sharp intellect and impressive skill set. He was often wary of her social graces, but deep down was impressed and enamored with the contrast between his laid-back personality and her extroverted attributes. Starting to discover common interests with his colleague on the Apollo-A, he was certain that their professional synergy would translate into a strong casual friendship.

Favorite Quote: Understood.  :: pause:: You haven’t told me your name yet- should I make one up? - when Traenor apologizes and responds - You can make up for it by buying me a drink tomorrow.
KaelThomas.jpg Kael Thomas
USS Darwin-A
When first meeting Kael, Maxwell found the First Officer to be intimidating, and avoided personal interactions with him due to preconceptions about the man. However, after a crisis of confidence that afflicted Maxwell was assuaged by kind and sage words from Kael, Maxwell reconsidered his erroneous opinions and has come to trust Kael and value his conversation.

Favorite Quote: The Commander doesn’t just pick anyone to be the Chief Science officer. This is a Science ship, you have a great responsibility. You aren’t the weakest link, so, can you stop pretending that you are?
Valdiviaimage.jpg John Valdivia
USS Darwin-A
Through a shared affinity for their career fields, Maxwell and John have become a dynamic force in the Science department of the Darwin. With interests and personalities aligned, the two have fostered a friendship above and beyond their strong working relationship.

Favorite Quote: He is technically my superior officer. But he is also a good friend I have made aboard the Darwin.
Lyldra-Uniform.png Lyldra
USS Darwin-A
Lyldra has a kind, approachable nature that transcends her training as a diplomat and a counselor, and it draws Maxwell to her. With the addition of her husbands Hars Vlin and Brell, as well as their newborn twins, to the ship, Lyldra's family provides a surrogate family experience for Maxwell. Though their friendship has mostly been born out of professional interaction, they are expanding into a personal friendship outside of duty as well.

Favorite Quote: Have you thought of having children yourself, Maxwell? - When Traenor demurs and describes his niece - I see, what an uncle you must make!

Personal History

Maxwell mugging for the holoimager, as he is wont to do at any time, anywhere.
Maxwell at a family party, circa 2388.

When asked to describe himself, Maxwell Traenor would dryly remark that he is a wholly unremarkable person, and happy to be considered so. He is a genial, easygoing person, quick to laugh and hard to anger. As a young adult, he had no particular ambitions, save a reasonable interest in stellar cartography. He was able to secure a position, first as a civilian contractor, then as an enlisted crewperson, in the Astrometrics department of a large outpost, Starbase 20. He plodded through the ranks, and across a couple large stations, until he found himself stuck in career limbo at Specialist, 3rd class, working on mundane charting tasks. He started to yearn for more, and managed to secure the recommendation of a bemused and sympathetic former commanding officer in order to enlist at Starfleet Academy.

Although he still prefers to remain out of the limelight, and has been chided for having a plodding, methodical nature, Traenor managed to maintain competent, if middling scores throughout his tenure at the Academy. Yet within him, he felt a spark of desire for personal growth and gain that had eluded him before. That spark drove him forward and pushed him to the edge of his comfort zone as he strove to better himself, and has managed to use the middle-aged renaissance to segue into a successful and driven career in Starfleet.
