Background

Sera is the youngest of three children born on Zhevra province, Andor. When Sera was eleven, during the height of the Dominion War, Sera's family feared that Andor was under imminent threat from invasion and evacuated to Lunar One Colony. Sera's family were among a minority of families to take this offer and her families reputation has been tarnished by many other Andorians who believe those who fled were cowards.

Spending her teenage years on Lunar, was a mixed experience for Sera. Even though Andor had always been at the heart of the Federation, Andorians have found it difficult to bond with other species. This led Sera to have some very awkward teenage years, she found it very difficult to socialize with her peers and spent much her first year on Lunar as an outcast at her school. This began to change when Sera joined the wrestling team at age thirteen, naturally disciplined Sera found the tough wrestling practices extremely fulfilling. Sera lost her first six matches in a row, but eventually become one of the teams better wrestlers and found her teammates wanting to socialize with her a lot more. Slowly through her time on Lunar Sera has developed a dark sense of humor and is more comfortable socializing with humans and other non-Andorian.

Sera studied engineering in during her high education and received an apprenticeship upon exiting education at a medium sized freighter shipyard orbiting Europa, Sera found the work acceptable but after eighteen months decided that she wanted to travel before settling down in her career. Sera Spent two years traveling the federation before finding her way back to Andoria, while visiting the Wall of Heroes was a memorial Sera experienced a private epiphany and soon after put in her application for star fleet.

StarFleet Academy

Sera attended the StarFleet Academy training facility in Marin County, Earth across from the Golden Gate Bridge. Already an apprentice civilian engineer Sera selected Engineering as her Major and, after some deliberation, chose Helm/Navigation as a Minor. Throughout her academy training sera showed herself to be excellent in the fields of Propulsion systems and component engineering however sometimes struggled in the field of programming and her lack of skills at improvising caused some concern from the courses assistant instructor, Senior Chief Petty Officer Leigh McMann. In her 4th year, Sera decided to base her thesis and final project on Alternative Faster-Than-Light Technologies for which she received a A-. Her final exam, aboard the USS Centris-A, was conducted by Commander Brell and Lieutenant Commander Rustyy Hael. Sera missed out on the top ten percent of her class, Graduating 37th out of 212.

While at the academy Sera chose wrestling as her main Extracurricular Activity. Despite having been on her high school wrestling team Sera lost her first three matches at the Academy, relying too heavily on her natural strength and speed instead of technique and timing. After a long discussion with the team's coaches, Sera was able to adjust her training and competition style. She eventually managed to build a very respectable record after these initial setbacks and she considers being part of the wrestling team as one of her favorite memories from her time at the academy.

USS Gorkon

On Stardate 239406.06 Ensign Sera zh'Aella joined the USS Gorkon, under the Command of Fleet Captain Quinn Reynolds, as an Engineering officer.

During Sera's first mission on the Gorkon she was part of an away team investigating Leutra IV, a planet that in theory shouldn't exist. Due to it's a lush, temperate M-class planet, but it's in orbit around a magnetars. While on the planet, there was a massive solar flare that knocked out all the team equipment and forced the teams to find cover in a nearby cave system. Sera awoke in darkness and remembered that she had fallen into a pitfall upon entering the cave, cut off and in darkness she was able to signal for help but was rescued by mechanical spiders, caretakers of the cave. Unfortunately, she believed they were going to eat her and resisted her rescue until she was dropped at the feet of her away team. For the rest of the mission Sera served her team by repairing and recharging personal equipment until herself, Ensign Tasha MacFarlane and Lt. Commander Alerta Millis salvaged a secondary com array from a wrecked Ranger shuttle which they were able to use to contact the Gorkon and arrange a rescue.
