Overview

The K-9 Unit is a relatively new addition to the Starbase 118 Marines Contingent. Designed to aid in many aspects of Marine operations, the dogs who comprise the unit are all highly trained animals who can be counted on to perform their duties in even the most dire of circumstances.

Primary training for the dogs includes search & rescue and general security. Further training for Marine K-9 Units can include contraband and explosives detection, battlefield medic assist and crowd control.

Though technically a division of the Marines Contingent, the K-9 training makes the unit a natural extension of Starbase security. As such, the K-9 Unit is essentially a bridge between the Marines and Starfleet Security.

Currently, the Starbase 118 K-9 Unit consists of five dogs and two handlers.
