Emi tends to be stoic and laconic, but warms up to people when she gets to know them. She takes being professional in a work environment very seriously and considers it almost rude to act otherwise.
Rock climbing, aikido, archery, meditation, drawing and calligraphy.
Emi was born on Earth and considers Morocco her home. Though she did spend a few years on Vulcan as a teenager, she returned to Earth soon after. Emi knows several languages including Vulcan, English, Swahili and Farsi.
Emi's father was an exobotanist. He was medically discharged from Starfleet due to survivor’s guilt related to an incident while assigned to the USS Forbearance in which he was the sole survivor of a survey team. He met Emi's mother while being treated on Starbase 108. She was and continues to be his counselor.
From the time Emi was very young, her father often took her on trips to many places around the world, but he refused to leave Earth. Emi found herself wanting to explore even more and longed to travel around the federation. She thought joining Starfleet was a huge honor and would continue her family’s legacy, but her father did not want her to join the fleet. He was worried for her safety as an officer because of his traumatic experience in the service.
As a young teenager, Emi studied emotional control and meditation on Vulcan. She got her medical degree as an Exopharmacologist at Kyoto University. Then did her specialization in medical research. One of Emi's personal goals in Starfleet is to help develop new medicines based on her research exploring other worlds. She was fascinated with what exobotany could do for the medical community.
