D'Cyra of Varati (pronounced like "Syrah", the french grapes) was born on 237606.12 in Taggo-Lar on Orion (Volum/Rigel III) as third child of the Varati-Sinno family. Her mother's family were mostly merchants. There may have been links to the syndicate, but the family was always careful to remain neutral. The Varati family was also keen to remain neutral, as they had served as counsels to the most influential clans (Caju) for generations.
She grew up as the youngest daughter, her older brother followed in his father's footsteps early on as a lawyer, albeit for a company. She has a deep bond with her brother. On more than one occasion, he has used his skills to help her out of difficult situations that she didn't want her parents to know about.
Her older sister went her own way early on, too, and turned to art and later to education. D'Cyra was always impressed by how confidently she could get her way. Together they could turn the whole house upside down or, to their mother's despair, spend days exploring the woods around the village. Since then, she has been fascinated by exploring things and her surroundings and gathering as much information as possible.
As the youngest child, D'Cyra had almost complete freedom and admired the way her father, a diplomat, and her brother, a budding lawyer, managed their affairs. She wanted to follow in their footsteps and switched to the boarding school of administration & diplomacy at the age of 15. But far from home and her family, D'Cyra was not happy with bureaucracy and the fine art of diplomacy. So she dropped out of school shortly before her exams and joined a wild group of explorers and scientists at the age of 18 at Raang-Hoo on Botchok (Rigel VIII) instead. This was much more in keeping with her sense of freedom and her desire to explore the past and present world of Orion.
Unintentionally crossing paths with the syndicate was not a good idea, however. It was only thanks to her brother's interventions and her family's high reputation that they got away scot-free.
But she was smart enough to stay out of the line of fire. However, the desire to explore worlds remained. With the support of her family, she therefore decided to join the starfleet, but not before embarking on an extensive round trip from star to star.
D'Cyra entered the starfleet academy on 239610.01 and graduated on 240007.15. Four interesting years at the division of art & science at the academy. She finished the one-year Cadet cruise on 240109.30 and passed the final exam on 240111.05. Afterwards she was enlisted as Junior Science Officer at Amity Outpost.

- She broke her first ribs when she had the brilliant idea of taming and domesticate a kind of mule at the age of ten or eleven (the poor animal had of course had no desire to submit…).
- She loves Thalian chocolate (the cocoa beans for this are 400 years old). Otherwise, dark and/or marzipan chocolate. She likes to eat these in stressful situations.
- She doesn't have a good sense of when a joke is appropriate and when it's not.
- When she is annoyed, she likes to kick objects.
- “Wait... What?” it's one of her favourite phrases.
- With a real lasagne or a classic saltimbocca (or classic Italian cuisine in general) you can persuade her to do almost anything.
- She dyes her hair orion-green, her real hair colour is black.
- She uses anti-pheromone pads under her uniform so as not to affect those around her.
- In her second year at the academy, she visited Venice alone during the winter holidays. This is where her fondness for Italian cuisine and especially for Italian and French red wine comes from.
- She ‘abuses’ the diplomatic mail to have ‘forbidden’ things sent to her from Orion and elsewhere, e.g. Mandisa.
- Her older sister once got a fighting stick caught in her hair during training and threw her through the air.
- When she is really stressed, she grabs the top of her left cheekbone with her left middle finger and casts a ‘killing’ glance to the left.
- Like many Orion women, she has rather pointy fingernails.
- She is a bad card player. Her emotional reactions tell the other players whether she has been dealt good or bad cards.
