Born on his species home world of Pelios, Jiroo grew up in a rural region. His parents were administrators for the local government of the Rakatan district which assured him a comfortable upbringing. From young age he had an interest in technology and dreamed of escaping what he considered his personal rural hell. Tinkering with everything he could get his hands on, he soon became the go-to repairman for his peers. From electronics to farming equipment, Jiroo tried to repair anything and succeeded more often than not. On the other hand he became fascinated by the stars and how the world around him worked. Seeing his ability and his interest in sciences parents encouraged him to go to their districts capital city to attend university, but they assumed he would return and find work in his home town after. Jiroo had other ideas. During his studies he attended a guest lecture of a Starfleet physicist and was taken by his narrations about black holes, neutron stars and warp theory. He decided that after finishing university he would travel to Earth and join Starfleet. Though discouraged by his parents and peers, who advised him to stay on Pelios and settle down, Jiroo made the necessary arrangements for a passage to Earth and enlisted. Now after further four years of study he arrived at Starbase 118 for his final exam.
