General looks and mannerisms

She is and looks Human but has a sprinkling of Vulcan genes inherited through her mother's side of the family.

Her ears are not pointed, as many would expect when they learn about her Vulcan ancestry, but they do blush red when she is embarrassed or upset. Romyana smiles kindly by default, and when she is in her element she dons a joyful smile showing her white teeth. When she is concentrating on a precise and fiddly task she sucks her lower lip and when she needs to think about something for a while she holds the tip of her nose between her index finger and thumb occasionally rubbing the index finger along the ridge of her nose.

Her hairstyle varies daily and depends heavily on her mood, sometimes ties her long chestnut colored hair back or pins it up in a variety of ways or she simply lets it hang loose tucking it behind her ears letting it fall back over her shoulders.

The young engineer does not mind getting her hands dirty, so to speak, and although she realizes the importance to look representative on duty, when absorbed in maintenance and repair tasks she has no issues to roll up her sleeves or otherwise adjust her uniform if that makes the task at hand easier.

For casual and special events, Romyana likes to experiment with the clothes she wears. She may take influences from other cultures and races and incorporate it in her very own style which can only be described as, on some occasions flamboyant, on other occasions more muted and elegant, and then usually complimented with eye-catching earrings.

Personality

Romyana is patient with people, not with herself, has an open mind towards any subject and does not quickly judge. Initially she always assumes the best of people and waits to form an opinion until she has gathered a fair amount of knowledge or information about someone or something.

Most of her social interactions are friendly, amicable and considerate. Towards higher ranking officers and people senior her age she tends to be very polite. Even though her joyous character lets her make friends easily, it takes Romyana a while to really trust people. However, for those she considers trusted friends or loved ones, she will jump into an antimatter reactor if necessary. On the other hand, once her trust is lost, it is not regained, ever.

Her thoughts are chaotic and her behavior can be erratic, even for human standards, and people may see a volatile and aggressive side come to the surface when she is angered or hurt. It is probably her Vulcan heritage that causes this excess in emotion and contrary to the Vulcan custom she has never trained to control this. So far this character trait has only confused people somewhat in the past, but not caused her major trouble, yet.

Romyana's mother despises swearing and discouraged her children to do so. Therefore, she rarely swears but if she does she uses extremely friendly words instead. Some examples Romy will use are: Flower, cactus, budding lilly petals.

Not knowing things and unfamiliar situations make Romyana insecure and it can be noticed by her becoming disengaged and quiet. Hence, details and thorough preparation are important, because this is how she feels she can be ready for anything the universe may throw at her!

Her biggest weakness is the fact that she is very reluctant to ask for help. Her parents always told her to make sure she could fend for herself and that she should not rely on others. Though, she now knows that teamwork is extremely important, especially in an organisation such as Starfleet, she still wants to try and solve things on her own first and only reluctantly admit she needs help if there is no other way.

Personal history

On stardate 237308.22 Romyana was born to a Human father, Lee, and a half human, half Vulcan mother, Corynne. Shortly after, her parents marry and thirteen months later her brother Zeke was born.

At the age of 4 Romyana was hospitalized for over a year. At first the doctors had difficulties determining the cause of her acute and life threatening symptoms, partially because of her Vulcan hybrid heritage which makes her physiology slightly different than that of a pure human. Due to the long term heavy medication, Romyana herself does not remember anything before that time and she has only a few memories of her time in hospital. After some months she was diagnosed to suffer from a congenital disease causing chronic Cirrhosis of the liver and it took almost a year to nurse the young child back to health, or rather, as the physicians call it, a stable condition.

When Romyana and her brother were old enough to go to school, their mother returned to active duty and was assigned as Captain of a newly commissioned star ship. This meant the siblings were raised primarily by their father, who at that time had a teaching post at the Star Fleet flight range near Saturn. To her father's disappointment Romyana was more interested in studying the craft's mechanics than flying in it, nevertheless she spent some happy hours with her father taking the trainer craft out for a spin.

The family lived in a small federation base located on Iapetus, the third largest moon of Saturn. During that time Romyana discovered gymnastics and was quite successful in the sector competitions, however the excessive training regime she followed eventually took its toll on her knee joints and she was forced to stop the pursuit of the sport. Romyana studied hard and always did what her parents expected of her, but her brother Zeke was quite the opposite and as soon as he finished school he left to study Art with an obscure artists group on Andoria.

At the age of 18 Romyana joined Starfleet and was accepted to the Academy. At the same time her father and mother took a more administrative duty post at Star fleet Head Quarters and moved to San Francisco. Despite the family home being only a few blocks away from the Academy grounds, she stayed mostly within the campus complex and focused on her studies.

In the fourth and final Academy year, Romyana was given the opportunity to go on a work placement; a Cadet Cruise. She joined the Starfleet crew that was sent to a Deep Space station in need of repair and overhaul more than initially estimated, so they welcomed anyone Starfleet could send them with engineering knowledge. Those few months on the station, "moonlighting as engineering assistant" as she calls it, is where Romyana started to enjoy being part of Starfleet and she grew up from a naive shy girl to an independent joyful woman. It was also the place where she met Nommi Jarr, a young Bajoran crewman who aspired to become an engineering officer too. They became best friends.

Together with her best friend, Romyana returned to Earth briefly for completing some fourth year Academy courses. At his time she found out that her mother had grown exceptionally distant and cold. It may be due to her Vulcan upbringing, but it may also be related to an event that happened between the two in earlier years. Her father remained encouraging and kind as ever.

Presently she has been posted as an engineering officer on Star base 118 where she is eager to continue her exploration of the universe and everything in it. Her goals are to learn more about different species in general and make inter-species friendships. Also, if the opportunity arises she would like to learn more about her Vulcan heritage, because the only Vulcan she really knows is her Grandmother, who, opposite to Human grandparents, did not talk very much on the occasional visits she made to meet her grandchildren.
