Background

Childhood

Connor was born and raised near Los Angeles in California, where his parents run a small, but well-known restaurant in the area. His father, Richard, runs the front, while his mother, Ava, was an excellent cook. Until his first day of school, he - together with his loved sister - got the chance to be around a lot and took in the idyllic atmosphere of a well run family restaurant. During school, he never faced any challenge, made a lot of friends and had a terrific childhood.

Since then, cooking has been something he took with him on his journey through life. While he sometimes thought that he might take his parents' offer to learn to be a professional chef in their own restaurant, during his high-school years he learned that there was an even greater passion: Repairing whatever was broken in the kitchen. He was extraordinarily gifted when it came to fixing the stove, the exhaust or the baking oven. This laid a lot of groundwork during the coming years for several engineering projects Connor did and, finally, for his choice to become an engineer.

Starfleet Academy

The impulse to join Starfleet then came from his grandparents, who had both been Starfleet officers. His mother was raised on several Starships and had a lot of interesting stories about what it was like to be on Starfleet vessels as a kid. It was on Christmas Eve in his last high school year, that his grandparents told him the story of their first mission together and what it meant to them to be part of the Starfleet family. So, after high school - while still being a kid to a substantial degree - Connor decided that he wanted to embark on that adventure, much to the liking of his parents and grandparents.

During his four years at the Academy, he recurrently came home to his family, sharing a strong bond with all of them. He managed to excel in engineering classes while taking on Science as his minor. He made a lot of friends during those years, not least because he spent a lot of time at the local bars.

It was until 2398 that Connor never had to deal with doubt, grief or pain in his life. During this year, his sister succumbed to a rare disease that could not be treated. This set Connor's world on fire and gave him a deep sense of insecurity. During the coming year, he had to fight through the pain and try to stay on his track while challenging a lot of his own decisions and his ability to cope with challenges. Shortly after, he got his orders to get to Starbase 118 to finish his academy training. While this was once what he strived for, the separation from his family made it even harder on him. He, however, tries to keep his insides sealed and measures himself by the same standards he did before the incident.

USS Arrow - Junior Officer

Arriving on the Arrow as a freshly baked Ensign, Connor was intimidated by the Starfleet's "real life". Shaped by his sister's death, his problem-solving thoughts are always accompanied by a fear of failure and loss that dominates his thoughts. On his first mission, he got to know Ayemet. With her edgy wit, she was able to get him through the away mission on a Sheliak vessel, and Connor was able to grow from that.

His fears and self-doubt improved over the years. While he has not lost it completely, and a certain respect for possible outcomes still keeps him on his toes, he has more and more learned to live with the challenging parts of his mind. Award celebrations and promotions play a pivotal role in Connor's feeling of self-worth from now on, and he enjoys every single one of these ceremonies.

After a mission to a Sheliak penal colony ("When History Comes Calling"), Connor was injured in a firefight. The engineer did not at all agree with Captain Shayne's assessment of an acceptable risk, which led to a fight in the aftermath of the mission. Shayne taught him a lot about command during their fight, and Connor got to appreciate him even more when he admitted to his mistakes. This fight was the foundation of Connor's aspiration to become chief engineer.

USS Arrow - Chief Engineer

After his promotion to full Lieutenant, he took over the duty post of Chief Engineer after being Acting Chief Engineer for over a year. During this time, his colleague Nolen Hobart grew to become one of his closest friends, having the right words for Connor's doubtful mind almost all the time.

Since his first mission, Connor had grown closer and closer to Ayemet. While he initially just enjoyed her presence, he quickly developed a romantic fondness for her. While they talked a lot about their feelings for each other, Ayemet's difficulty in committing to the relationship always kept it casual until she plunged in and asked Connor to get married. Connor accepted the proposal without hesitation. Since then, they've grown even closer, and their relationship entered a new era - with its own share of challenges.

Parents
Connor's father is the heart and soul of the restaurant he runs together with his wife, Connor's mother, the restaurant's cook. Connor shared a good relationship with both of them. And though his father would have liked for him to take over the restaurant one day, he accepted Connor's choice to join Starfleet and supported him since day one. His mother grew up on starship's and played no small part in Connor's decision when she told all the stories she experienced growing up.

Sister (deceased in 2398)
Connor shared a loving relationship with his sister. They grew up together in the restaurant of their parents and spent a lot of time together. She died in 2398 due to a rare decease that could not be cured. Her death shattered Connor's world and he had a hard time ever since to get back on his feet.

Grandparents
Connor's grandparents - and parents of Ava - met during an assignment on the USS Bellorophon. His grandmother Emma was an engineer during all her career, while his grandfather Bernard had his own command during the last years of his carreer. Both of them heavily influenced Connor's decision to also pick up a life in Starfleet.

Fiancée
Connor and Ayemet met during his first away mission to a Sehliak ship. The young engineer had been consumed by his self-doubts and was terrified aboard the ship. Ayemet helped him through this with her witty and edgy comments. Since then they have been on multiple dates. Connor had difficulties to define their relationship until Ayemet finally proposed to him during shore leave in a Risian holiday resort.

Friend
Connor and Nolen are working closely together on the engineering department of the Arrow. They worked on a variety of projects, becoming more than just colleagues. Connor took Nolen under his belt during the first weeks aboard the Arrow and encouraged him to engage with the crew. He is thankful to have found a friend who would cover for him and give him advice on almost anything.

Friend and Mentor
Connor got to know Quentin after his first couple of missions when they met in the mess hall. Still consumed by self-doubt the engineer took comfort in the words of a seasoned colleague aboard the ship. When Ayemet had been seriously injured during a mission, Quentin was there for Connor to get him through a difficult time. Connor considers him a friend and a part of his family. He is fascinated by Quentin's heritage and his family.

Quentin has since left the USS Arrow to take care of his family at home. Connor still values him and hopes to see him again soon.

Connor has his difficulties with decisions that come with climbing the hierarchy of Starfleet. He found Captain Shayne's self-aware nature to be highly respectable and looks up to him for guidance in this journey.
