Captain’s Log, Stardate 240203.21
The crew of the Artemis was able to successfully prevent the Suliban and Da’al from disrupting life on the Genesis planet. We’ve detained the Suliban leader and his crew and will be transporting them to a Federation outpost where they will face trial for violating the no-fly zone. While I gave them my assurances that I would do what I could to ensure leniency for the Suliban crew, their fate is out of my hands.
I have also filed a formal petition with the Federation and the Da’al government recommending that sanctions be placed because of the Da’al violation of the no-fly zone. I do not believe the Federation intends to pursue formal litigation, but I hope that the petition being filed under my name carries weight with the Da’al provisional government. After what my crew has done to render aid and help them rebuild, for them to have violated our restricted space feels like a personal affront, and to have been treated so poorly by Colonel Evreste absolutely is.
The stolen Bird of Prey has been returned to the Klingon Empire and the High Council did something it very rarely does – express gratitude. Hopefully the returning of this property builds a little good will between the Federation and the Empire.
As for my report to Starfleet regarding the status of the Genesis planet, I have indicated that life on the planet is developing in accordance with the design of the Genesis matrix, but that the local plant life did have a negative response to our presence that necessitates maintaining the travel restrictions to the surface.
I have purposefully omitted any information about Commander Farrel and the Tree of Life, or any possible sentience that might exist on the planet, in the hopes it will be left to evolve in peace.
For now, I thought it would be nice to surprise the crew with a trip to Risa. It was, after all, the place where the survivors of the Resolution’s destruction sought refuge in an attempt to heal their wounds in the immediate aftermath. Plus, with Commodore Nicholotti aboard, I thought she and Genkos might enjoy the opportunity to take advantage of their infrequent proximity to one another.
