Nathan Richards Amity Outpost Friendly When S'Raga was first posted to Amity Outpost, he was assigned to a two-bedroom apartment already occupied by Ensign Nathan Richards. They took to each other quickly and easily, bonding over their shared interest of aviation, and S'Raga can see himself becoming very good friends with him over time.
Robin Hopper Amity Outpost Friendly Robin was a source of great support during S'Raga's first mission in the Delta Quadrant. They worked very well together and haven gotten along quite well so far. S'Raga is also extremely grateful to her for saving his life after he was shot by an energy beam on Idrustix.[4] He's looking forward to further developing this new friendship.

Personality

S'Raga has high expectations for himself, which tends to be a double-edged sword; it drives him to do his best in everything he does, but it also causes him anxiety and self-doubt whenever he thinks he won't live up to those standards. S'Raga certainly knows he'll have to overcome his self-confidence issues if ever he wants to captain his own ship one day. Rising through the ranks is a major motivator for S'Raga, but he won't play any kind of political games to achieve that; he wants to be sure that his promotions are earned through his hard work.

Timeline

Biography

Early Life

S’Raga’s fondest childhood memories are of the times he’d sit on his father’s lap while he piloted a ferry between colonies and stations across the Caitian system (or the Regulus system, as the Federation identifies it). He loved feeling the ship respond instantly to his father’s commands, and watching the planets gradually grow over the course of a trip from a tiny dot of light, almost indiscernible from the stars around it, to a massive landscape filling the entire viewscreen. As he got older, his father would start assigning him certain tasks appropriate for a child, such as activating the exterior nav lights, and S’Raga would take his new responsibilities very seriously.

When he was eight years old, S’Raga was accompanying his father on another ferry trip when the impulse engines suddenly lost power about half-way to Regulus III, leaving the ship adrift in space. After a thorough diagnostic, it was determined the ship would need to be towed into dry dock for repairs, which meant they wouldn’t be able to complete the trip. His father assured their passengers they were in no immediate danger and began transmitting a distress signal so they could be safely evacuated. S’Raga would never admit he was scared while all this was happening, but it was certainly something he had never experienced before, so he was a little nervous.

Their distress signal was answered in short order by a Starfleet vessel passing through the system. S’Raga hadn't heard much about Starfleet, but he had seen some their vessels docked at certain stations that they had flown to, and all he knew is that they had the most beautiful ships he had ever seen. When he realized he was finally going to be able to be inside one of them, he no longer felt quite as sad that they’d have to leave the ferry behind. Moments later, the Starfleet ship dropped out of warp just off their bow, and it was even bigger and more magnificent than the ones S'Raga had seen before. When they were transported aboard, the inside of the ship was just as beautiful as the outside, he thought.

S'Raga’s encounter with Starfleet had probably been the best day of his eight-year-old life; one of the officers on the ship noticed the small Caitian ogling at every single wall display, so she offered to take him and his father on an unofficial tour of the places civilians were allowed to access. The highlight of the tour was the observation lounge, where S’Raga ran right up to the giant windows overlooking the exterior hull and the stars beyond. He spent the rest of the trip sitting there, pretending he was piloting the ship and controlling its every move. The rest of the trip to Regulus III, where they were brought to a Starfleet Science Academy, was much too short in S'Raga's opinion. He and his father spent the night at the Academy until another ferry was able to pick them up the next day to take them back to Cait. S’Raga got no sleep at all as he spent all night gazing out the window towards the sky, watching various spacecraft fly overhead. From then on, he knew in his heart that he’d one day be a Starfleet pilot.

At the age of sixteen, S'Raga challenged the Caitian Aviation and Spaceflight test and earned his Pilot Training License allowing him to fly air and spacecraft within the Caitian system under supervision. If S'Raga wasn't in school or sleeping, he was in the copilot seat of his father's ferry, learning every aspect of the flight. Over the following two years, S'Raga had become adept enough to fly the entire trip without his father's assistance. He knew his father would have preferred for him to stay as his ferry copilot, but S'Raga would never be satisfied remaining in the Caitian system flying at sub-warp speeds. His resolve to join Starfleet academy was as strong as ever, and he submitted his application at the first chance he could.

Starfleet Academy

In 2395, S'Raga was accepted into Starfleet Academy in San Francisco on Earth. Attending the Academy marked his first time leaving the Regulus system. S'Raga found that the climate in San Francisco wasn't dissimilar to that of his home-city of Dorlin, however he did have some difficulty adapting to certain cultural differences, such as the staggering variety of foods and other people's overt friendliness. During his first few months at the Academy, S'Raga would often feel overwhelmed, and would retreat to his quarters to recenter himself and write to his family. Over time, however, S'Raga grew more accustomed to life on Earth and embraced its eccentricities.

With piloting as his primary focus, S'Raga chose to pursue a double-major in Helm/Navigation and Communications/Operations. Due to the core course requirements, however, S'Raga did not have any opportunity to pilot a spacecraft in his first year. In his second year, he was finally able to enroll in courses that would allow him to fly. S'Raga's exceptional performance in his first two piloting courses caught the eye of his instructors, and at the end of the year S'Raga was offered a spot in the Third Academy Training Wing's Falcon Squadron, with whom he will train for his remaining two years at the Academy. Flying with Falcon Squadron while also handling a full course-load was challenging, but S'Raga was fully in his element and was able to successfully navigate all of his commitments, and by the end of his fourth year he was awarded a Flight Proficiency Award. His focus came at a price, though, as he didn't allow much time for social activities. Although he grew a camaraderie with the rest of his squadron, S'Raga had few close relationships by the time he graduated.

Protocols (Amity) — 239909 - 239910

During S'Raga's first mission as a member of the Amity crew, he was sent with an away team to Idrustix to begin preliminary planning of communications infrastructure for a proposed colony site for the Sixth House of Betazed.[5] Shortly after setting up camp for the night, all the away teams on the surface of the planet were cut off from the USS Kitty Hawk by an orbital tetryon field deployed by an alien species known as the Trenvonn.[6] S'Raga came up with the idea to build a tetryon signaling device using spare signal boosters, however before he could finish building it, he was shot by the energy beam of a Trenvonn drone which caused him to go into anaphylactic shock.[3][4] Thanks to the quick thinking of Lieutenant Robin Hopper, S'Raga was stabilized and taken into a nearby accommodation hut. As their campsite came under threat of more Trenvonn drones, their team was picked up by the Quimby, a shuttle from the Kitty Hawk which had managed to fly through the tetryon barrier several hours earlier. Once all away teams were relocated to a safe location on the planet, S'Raga took the helm of the Quimby and went on a hunt to shoot down the remaining drones and the satellites which were sustaining the tetryon barrier.[7][8] S'Raga was left with no permanent injuries, although he did experience difficulties breathing for several weeks afterwards and have to trim a patch of fur on his chest which had been singed by the energy beam.[9]
