His father is Orin Salen, an wildlife biologist, assigned to the Medara animal sanctuary. His mother is Laural Salen, a very hardworking and practical woman who was teaching Medical Admisistration courses at the Talanis Academy, also in Medara, until the academy was destroyed in the Dominion attack on the city. Currently Laural is on leave deciding how put her life back together after the occupation of her planet.

• Siblings: Aric Salen, a few years younger than Par, but nearly Par's

complete opposite, very outgoing, atheletic, and self-confident, even in spite of what Betazed has been through.

Backstory/Timeline

Par grew up somewhat sheltered from the hardships other people endure. His family were never wealthy or even well-off, but his parents were patient, loving, and prefered to avoid burdening their offspring overly much.

Par awakened at ten with his telepathic and empathic abilities, early but not traumatically so. He learned how to deal with his abilities and continued on with his life. He graduated from medical school on Betazed, finished the first two years of his residency in Psychiatry, specializing in wholistic approaches.

Then the Dominion came, his planet fell, his people were killed and enslaved, and his best friend died in his arms. When the occupation was over he determined that Betazoid passivity was not the best choice for protecting themselves, and joined StarFleet, hoping that he could learn how to put the war behind him, especially his anger, perhaps even hatred of the Jem'haddar and Vorta. This anger shames him and he does not speak of his feelings about this subject openly.
