Javier Montanez is a 73-year-old Human engineer assigned to Starfleet R&D in Tokyo, Earth. He previously served as chief engineer of the USS Tempest and worked at Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. A decorated veteran of Starfleet Engineering, Montanez has helped train and develop a generation of Starfleet officers, including Cassandra Egan Manno and Roshanara Rahman. Beneath his gruff demeanor is an intense loyalty to his fellow engineers and unwavering support for those young officers he feels have passion—not just intellectual potential—and above all else have demonstrated a solid work ethic to truly earn their place in the service.
