Lieutenant JG Chythar Skyfire is a medical officer serving aboard the USS Excalibur-A.

When his friend Sal Taybrim transferred to the USS Darwin-A, that caused a few additional problems for CD. Most notably, it brought his fear of breaking a fourth counselor to the surface. Time had passed, and after a drill against a couple of carefully programmed weapons platforms, he got a call out of the blue from a shuttlepod that brought Taybrim back aboard.

Recent events have caused Chythar to have a life-changing experience that he can't control.

Manner

• Quarters: Typically kept tidy, except for the desk. You'll find a few pairs of pliers, some leather work gloves, and an incomplete chainmail project. A couple of wire coils sit at the base of the desk. A bookshelf lines one wall, a couple of books on it: Dante's Inferno, The Odyssey and Iliad Unabridged, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare. Over the desk is a crude-looking drawing of the Counselor badge with a circle and slash similar to a no smoking sign. There are three, though one only has half a slash through it with Sal's name in it.

  • When hyperfocused tends to talk fast and in another language.
  • Chythar handles stress differently than most linguists. He creates a cipher that he distributes to his friends -- and depending on what language the letter is written in determines what point in his stress level he's at. One would have to know him well enough to comprehend this cryptic tactic first. Subconsciously, he may not realize he's writing in a 'panic' language' until told by the person who received his letter.
  • CD tries to focus on literature during his time off, and occasionally makes obscure literary references to things like Dante's Inferno when he's stressed. Sometimes will lapse into another language while making one of said references.

• Temperment: Fairly mild mannered, usually only gets angry when he's stressed. If someone consistently asks "How's it coming?" when he's working on a project, he may lapse into another language as a coping method.

  • Mediocre self-esteem/inferiority complex: He pulls it together when his life or the life of his crew is threatened and tries harder than he needs to. His issue stems mostly from not being able to fit in or find friends.
  • Never talks about his family, due to not having them anymore.
  • Asperger's Syndrome. He never talks about it.
  • Loneliness complex -- doesn't find friends easily, has a harder time making friends.
  • Has trust issues with counselors, because soon as he finds one he likes, they usually disappear.

Family

• Father: Calvin Daniels -- Deceased. Calvin wasn't that big into Starfleet, and had no affiliation. He was a single father for many years, and dropped off the face of the map after his son graduated from Starfleet Academy. Word of his death reached Chythar when he was stationed on Starbase 118.

• Mother: Kyrethia Angelica Skyfire: Retired SF Captain -- Deceased. Captain Kyrethia Skyfire has been on Romulus for several years, working with a minor faction to maintain peace. They seem to like her to stay in order to maintain said peace, and she was very proud when her son Chythar announced after his graduation from UW to go off to Starfleet. She remained on Romulus until her death, at the destruction of the planet.

History

Pre-Starfleet History

Born on Earth, raised going to public schools by his father. Calvin did his best to raise the boy after his birth. Captain Skyfire did what she could to raise the boy before she was recalled to negotiate peace on Romulus when Chythar was 12.

As a result of going to public school, Chythar's interest in science became an obsession. He decided many of the hard sciences interested him: xenobiology, linguistics, and chemistry. By the time he was old enough to enter University of Washington at age 18, he focused primarily on chemistry and linguistics. His adaptability at languages was sophisticated enough that he was able to speak fluently in Greek, Chinese, Latin, Russian, and Hebrew. His graduation was a brief family reunion with his mother and father, along with an MD at age 23. Post-graduation, his mother left yet again for more diplomatic work. Captain Skyfire remained on Romulus until the planet was destroyed. Prior to his years at Starfleet, he grew up loving to read anatomy books and spent a good deal of time thinking about what would happen if he ever joined the academy to take after his mother.

Once he graduated high school, he took it upon himself to head to University of Washington where he graduated as an MD. It wasn't until much later that he even realized he wanted to become a medic; namely after meeting and interacting with Ryoji Chibitsu, who knew Chythar better than the lad knew himself.

Chythar spent the next 4 years at Starfleet, working on his science major and two specializations: Xenobiology and Medicine. When he graduated from Starfleet, it was the last time he sees his father as he leaves the nest to go exploring.

The fact he is in Starfleet now is almost ironic, given how much he hates Starfleet Command for robbing him of his mother's time. She died while on a Starfleet assignment, so he feels conflicted between his addiction to work in medicine and his duty to the uniform.

Ryoji Chibitsu	Counselor & best friend, MIA	Ensign	Ryoji Chibitsu met during his Starfleet years, when he was training at the academy to become a science officer. It was through his interactions with Chibitsu he discovered his calling was actually to medicine. He is the only person who can actually get inside Skyfire's head and keep him from losing his mind. He's also one of the lucky few who has a copy of Skyfire's ciphers. As far as Chythar knows, still stationed on Starbase 118 and not answering messages.
Alden Cuthbert	Security Officer, friend	Lieutenant JG	Alden Cuthbert These two men met during their time together on Starbase 118. Cuthbert was stabbed with a contact poison during the Pythia's Tale mission, and Chythar created a wintergreen tea adrenal to save his life.
Anscom Folds	Close friend and CMO of the USS Excalibur-A	Lieutenant JG	Anscom Folds and Chythar met when they served together on board Starbase 118 Ops, and together they saved the life of Ensign Alden Cuthbert. Folds is grateful to have Chythar in the medical department.
Johanna MacLaren	Friend, Former Chief Medical Officer of the Excalibur. Last seen in critical condition.	Lieutenant JG	Johanna MacLaren and Chythar met when they served together on board Starbase 118 Ops, and Chythar received his baptism by fire during the Odyssey mission. He feared he'd started out wrong with her, because of his emotional turmoil, which he later regretted as she laid on Death's Door in the sickbay of the USS Excalibur after the explosion during the Pythia's Tale mission.
Sal Taybrim	Science Officer and best friend	Lieutenant JG	Met in the aftermath of Pythia's Tale on board the USS Excalibur-A, Chythar had a few sessions with Sal Taybrim and managed to get to know him a bit. Then, unexpectedly, Sal was transferred to the Darwin. Sal promised CD an open line if he ever needs it, and resulting in the young doctor building a gradual hatred of counselors; he sees Sal as the third one he's lost. By a cause that CD doesn't know, Taybrim returns to the Excalibur, though in the position of science as opposed to counselor.
Kieran Collim	Chief Intelligence Officer, friend	Lieutenant	Kieran Collim and Chythar have served on the same crew since he was stationed at Starbase118. However, they never formally spoke until one shoreleave and began establishing their friendship.
Alexander Morgan	Medical Officer, acquaintance	Ensign	Alexander Morgan and Chythar have been working together since they came on board. Both men need to learn to trust one another, as they haven't spoken except during missions.

Professional Timeline

• 236201 to 236203: University of Washington -- Doctor of Medicine. His time at UW was confusing for him, partially because of his first initial freeze-up; his class was in an autopsy auditorium studying a cadaver of a shuttle crash and one of his class mates had a fatal heart attack right in front of him. He froze, and didn't know what to do. That is the event which triggered his bad reaction times to pressure in all subsequent events.
• 236203 to 236207: Starfleet Academy During his time at Starfleet, Chythar Skyfire felt he was doing alright in his classes, and thought he was just barely scraping by. He did surprisingly well, despite constantly having flashbacks to his time at UW. He lost lots of latinum to his room mates during poker games, and is a terrible liar.

Service Aboard Starbase 118 Ops

His arrival onto Starbase 118 happened just in time for them to leave on the Odyssey mission. He managed to survive his first mission with his mind relatively intact, and afterward had himself a drink with Commander Benjamin Walker and Marine Captain Joseph Dubeau to discuss a game of poker. He passed out hardcore that night after the fact, due to some Antaran brandy. He woke up in time to learn of a beach party hosted by Lt. Commander Matthews, the new first officer. He woke up confused, because far as he knew, Walker was still the first officer.

During his time on Starbase 118, he had hated the Code Blues that always interrupted his off-days. All he wanted to do was have a day to himself, but he tried to be first on the scene whenever Lt. MacLaren summoned him and one of said Code Blue situations arose.


Service Aboard the USS Excalibur

Once he was transferred onto the USS Excalibur, the first mission they go on involves Chythar attempting to aid Lt. MacLaren in her efforts to stop a catastrophic plague from wiping out the Romulan population on Agurtha. During said efforts, he was injured in an explosion that caused his mind to become haphazard shards of random thought but he was still fully capable of doing his job as a medical officer with only partial hearing. He was dedicated to research, as that was the task that Captain Kalianna Nicholotti had bestowed on him. Due to his fractured thought processes and a low-grade concussion, it took him a few minutes to realize that was what he should be doing and the capacity of being the most useful at the moment. The number of patients greatly outweighed the number of patients, so he was chosen as the research monkey. Hard at work on the cure to the plague, he was too hyper-focused on this to notice at once that Ensign Alden Cuthbert was in fact suffering from poison and not from the plague itself. He thought it was the plague at first because of his too-focused mindset. He is also the genius behind the Teapaste that saved Alden's life. The security ensign's near-death experience averted, Chythar finished what later became known as The Skyfire Cure. Within hours after the cure was completed, he was granted the rank of Lieutenant JG and given awards for his actions. The promotion had unnerved him, and he had a nice chat with Taybrim.

Just before they ship out, he makes a friend in Sal Taybrim, who is the first counselor Chythar's worked with happily since getting out of the academy. Unfortunately, the test of time and life of Starfleet brings Taybrim's time on the USS Excalibur-A to a close as it takes him to the USS Darwin-A. During Sal's absence, he realizes he's going to probably wind up breaking a fourth counselor by the name of Ensign Ceilidh Riverview. Last thing he wanted was to do that, so he set up a meeting over coffee with Lieutenant Collim Kieran in order to reinforce his shields and discuss the current situation with her. The two discussed, and Collim agreed to help reinforce his mental shields only if he set up that appointment with Riverview and began the discussion. What seemed like a month to Chythar, Taybrim's return from the Darwin cause him to hope again. Shortly afterward, the crew engaged the Slipstream drive and appeared in a region of space that began messing with their minds. The doctor was trying to save Ensign Azin's life during a Dokkaran mind meld that messed with his mind in ways that he didn't imagine due to his impressive mental fortitude, for being human. As a result, the meld rewrote his genetic code and granted him limited telepathy.
