PERSONAL HISTORY

A few years before the events of Unification in 2367, a small group of Romulans were educated in the teachings of Surak in hopes to one day repair to schism between the Vulcans and Romulans. This small group of defectors risked everything to get off Romulus. Among them was a young couple, awaiting the birth of their first child. During the trip to Federation space, Varel, Re'Maru's mother, went into labor. The Medical facilities on the Smuggler's freighter was substandard to say the least. The only medic aboard didn't know much about Romulan nor Vulcan Physiology. The ordeal was painful and trying, but it was successful. During this journey, Re'Maru was born.

The Vulcan government was reluctant at first, but they accepted them in due to a plea by the Vulcan Ambassador to continue their education in the teachings of Surak, and that it was logical to see if Romulans truly had the ability to achieve an emotional control on par to the Vulcans. While it was difficult for her parents and their comrades, it was easier for their Children. Re'Maru, being the eldest of the second generation of the Romulan deserters, was looked to as the model of what a Romulan could achieve in a Vulcan society. She learned the vulcan ways, mastered their martial arts of V'shan, and would ultimately go beyond their expectations when she graduated with honors from the Vulcan science academy with a dual medical degree in Neurology and Psychology.

During her tenure on Vulcan, Re'Maru also pursued the study into the Vulcan mental disciplines. Most believed that being a Romulan, she wouldn't possess their ability to Mind Meld. They were correct to a degree. Although weaker, she is able to read emotions by touching the subject. She is registered as a Class 3 Empath, and is able to read the emotional state of most humanoids.

While she was studying at the Vulcan Science Academy, she met her future husband S'bien. S'bien holds a doctorate in quantum physics, and currently resides at the Academy as one of the teachers.

After graduating, Re'Maru entered Starfleet. Although it wasn't Re'Maru who wanted to enter, it was S'bien. She entered based upon his suggestion. She attended Starfleet academy where she broadened her horizons. She became a fair pilot, and a good shot with a Phaser. When asked why S'bien suggested that she enter Starfleet, she often states that he believed Starfleet could do what the Vulcan Science Academy couldn't, which was curb her sarcasm.

Re'Maru is disciplined and reserved due to her upbringing in the Vulcan Culture. However, she's still Romulan. As a result, she has a greater connection to her emotions than Vulcans. However, she does keep them under a tight control. The one area where she still needs "developement", according to her husband, is her sarcasm and penchant for mischief. Physically, she is attractive. Her hair is long and straight, but lighter in color than the typical shiney black of the Romulans and Vulcans
