High School

• Alix Harford graduated high school from Texas Accredited Vocational School, a high school / college dual enrollment program. She attended the school on a basketball scholarship. Attending the vocational school allowed her to graduate high school with an undergraduate degree in pre-med and attend medical school immediately after graduation.

Medical School

• Alix attended Medical school straight out of high school and studied at Baylor College of Intergalactic Medicine. Her focus of study was trauma surgery with a minor in holistic wellness medicine. Her mentor heralded the benefits of relying on your senses and never becoming too dependent on technology alone as a diagnostic tool.

Pre-Starfleet Career

• Alix worked for a year as a trauma surgeon at the Central Texas Trauma and Rehabilitation Center where her own life threatening injuries had been treated years earlier. She quickly grew bored and decided to join Starfleet for the challenge of practicing medicine on the frontier of Space Exploration.

Starfleet Academy

• Having joined Starfleet with a background in medicine allowed Alix to diversify her studies at Starfleet Academy where she earned a Science degree with focuses in Chemistry & Biology and a Psychology minor. She also played on the Basketball on the Academy team.

Continuing Education

• After Frontier Day Alix found herself with the unique opportunity to return to the Academy and finish out the courses needed for her Counseling Certification. She and Dr. Sevantha Saa worked together on a thesis project which explored the ethical concerns surrounding the use of telepathy in the Counseling field. Now, she uses her knowledge of psychology to help her trauma patients recover from more than just their physical injuries.

	Background ⮟

Alix Harford was born on Earth to human parents, Alex Dane & Stephanie Harford. The oldest of four girls, she was responsible, hard-working, physically fit and tall like her father. She enjoyed sports and science and did not enjoy girly things like her much smaller, much more feminine sisters. Her parents raised her with “old Earth” values and did not approve of space travel. Preferring instead to live their lives “as humans were intended”.

Alix excelled in school but never fit in socially, perhaps due to extreme anxiety that manifested after a near-fatal shuttle accident in her teen years. That was when she fell in love with medicine after watching the doctor who happened to be on board calmly treat and stabilize the injured passengers, including Alix and her father. Later she found out that the doctor on board, Dr. Pax Granger, had been a retired Starfleet Medical Officer.

After the accident, Alix's parents insisted she meet regularly with a counselor for trauma therapy. Her counselor, Dr. Lirohe Roim, was a half betazoid/ half human female who regularly used her abilities to usher Alix through her feelings. Ever since, Alix has had a dislike for anyone poking around in her mind, invading her private thoughts.

While working at Central Texas Trauma and Rehabilitation Center Alix had a crotchety old mentor named Dr. Saturn Utley. He pushed his doctors to rely on more than fancy medical equipment and was often heard saying, “All your fancy tech can fail, your kit can be lost, but you’ll never be without your eyes, your hands, and your ears.” To this day, Alix makes it a habit to begin with her senses before moving on to taking her scans. Deep down she hopes Dr. Utley is proud of where she's ended up.

After 4 years of medical school, a year of working in medicine on Earth, and 4 years at Starfleet Academy, Alix Harford was still an anxious perfectionist who preferred science to social situations. Practicing medicine was the only time she truly felt calm and in control.

	Life in Starfleet ⮟

Denali Station

• Dr. Harford's first posting after the Academy was to Denali Station where she served for 5 1/2 months. Originally stationed there with two other members of her graduating class, Alix was tortured to find out that Daniel "Mac" McGillian was one of those Ensigns to be assigned with her. The third member of their class washed out of the fleet rather quickly and Mac transferred in July of 2401, disappearing in the middle of the night later to be discovered as having helped with the stealing of the USS Chin'toka during Frontier Day.

• While serving on Denali, Alix became close with Kettick and with Drex who are now serving on the USS Eagle. She didn't have much time to explore other relationships except with her colleague Dr. Araxxu Vahin who has since taken leave from the fleet to care for his mailing mother. She also carries respect for Alora DeVeau though she didn't have much time to get to know her before taking a temporary transfer to the USS Astraeus to help relieve the pressure of loss in the aftermath of Frontier Day.

• During her first mission on Denali, Dr. Harford and half of the crew of Denali, led by their XO, Lt. Commander Falt answered a distress call from the Juneau. When they arrived the ship was dead in the water and infested with semi-sentient electric glowworms that had siphoned off the electrical power of the ship and most of the crew. The glowworms were also inhabiting crew members and controlling them, using their energy to survive. The crew finally discovered the problem and turned a torpedo into an escape pod for the aliens and their artifacts. Once they were off board, the Juneau regained power and the entire crew made it safely back to Denali Station.

• The second mission on Denali Station was an accidental trip into a REDACTED where Alix met REDACTED and helped to free REDCTED. Finally breaking free of REDACTED the crew returned home to Denali Station.

Astraeus

• Alix transferred to the USS Astraeus on August 31st for a temporary relief assignment. She both wanted to be of service in the traumatic aftermath of Frontier Day and wanted the opportunity to face her fear of space with some forced exposure therapy. She didn't know where she would be assigned until the day she left Denali. Only 20 days into her temporary transfer, Alix learned from her new Captain that Starfleet Command had chosen to make her transfer permanent. Never having properly said goodbye on Denali Station, she still misses members of her old crew.

• While aboard the Astraeus, Alix was able to reconnect with her Academy roommate, and was forced into close proximity with her Academy crush, Charles Matthews. Things had not ended well for them, nearly a year prior, and tension was evident in all of their interactions until he transferred to the USS Khitomer in February of 2402.

• Alix's first mission with the Astraeus crew was a research mission to a Rogue Planet that had somehow found a new orbit in the PE-629A Star System. While exploring, their crew made First Contact with a long dormant civilization of highly advanced aliens. The civilization began re-terraforming the planet from a mysterious sphere in orbit while many of the crew were still on board. The team Alix was assigned to lost their shuttle and was nearly killed until the Astraeus broke into the atmosphere and flew close enough to beam them back aboard and to safety. Later in the mission, Alix beamed back into the atmosphere to stabilize an injured Divya Tam and performed emergency surgery on her lungs immediately upon returning to the Astraeus Sickbay.

Friend & Neighbor, Age 26, Barzan Security Officer, USS Astraeus Since Alix's first day on the Astraeus, she has been afraid of Divya Tam but recently the two have become closer with the Barzan's recovery after a couple of major surgeries and their mutual love of torturing Christopher Caldwell.

Friendly Rival, Age 29, Human Mission Specialist, USS Astraeus Alix and Christopher Caldwell met in the Astraeus Arboretum and instantly fell into a competitive rivalry. Alix enjoys their competitions, even if he was a sore loser when they played Basketball. The two exchange witty banter and it's anyone's guess whether they are friendly or genuinely dislike each other. Sometimes even they aren't sure.

Budding Friendship, Age 31, Trill Chief of Operations, USS Astraeus Esa Kiax took Alix to Fiji on a spur of the moment trip after a meeting in Sickbay where the two discussed physical therapy for Esa's injury. In Fiji, and during Esa's continued recovery, the two have become friendly though Alix is still intimidated by Esa and her rank.

Teammate & Best Friend, Age 27, Centauran Mission Specialist, Ops Madison Marsh has been Alix's best friend since they were 16. They met at summer training camp for the girl's AAU basketball team where they were roommates. After high school they went separate ways as Madison joined Starfleet and Alix went to medical school. They kept in touch and reconnected when Alix later joined Starfleet while Madison was doing her medical studies. Madison is an extrovert that pushes Alix out of her shell and encourages her to pursue a more active social life.

Complicated, Age 29, Human Tactical Officer, USS Khitomer Alix and Charles Matthews were initially lab rivals at Starfleet Academy. Charles irritatingly accused Alix of hogging lab time, which was absolutely accurate. Eventually the two introverts warmed up to each other and became very good friends. Despite mutual interest, their relationship never developed further. They now serve together on the Astraeus and their relationship is strained.

Friend & Colleague, Age 29, Human Chief Medical Officer, USS Ronin Alix & Quentin Beck were in the same Neuroscience class at the Academy where they became friends. Now, they collaborate on research pertaining to Shared Subconsciousness while giving each other a hard time.

Friend & Colleague, Age 27, Betazoid Counselor, USS Octavia E Butler Sevantha Saa and Alix worked together as Medical Officers on the Astraeus, before Sevantha transferred to the USS Octavia E Butler. They also spent a long shore leave getting their Counseling certification together where they worked on a project concerning the Ethics of Telepathy. Spending so much time together grew their friendship and helped start Alix on a path to overcoming her dislike of telepaths.

Friend, Age 26, Human Civilian Scientist, Amity Outpost Samantha Richards and Alix met at a Botany Conference during Alix's last year at the Academy. They bonded over similar interests and growing up in more wilderness based lifestyles. Since joining Starfleet, Alix and Sam write to each other often.

Ex-Boyfriend, Age 32, Human Doctor, Earth Alix Harford met Colton Wentworth during her second year of medical school when she was 19 and he was 23. They dated for two years until Colton chose to put his career first and accepted a job that took him far away after graduation.

Father, Age 52, Human Farm Owner An Earth traditionalist who owns a farm in rural Texas. He always saw the potential in Alix and pushed her to pursue science and medicine after the two of them were in a shuttle accident the summer before Alix started high school. He does not condone space travel but was secretly proud of his daughter's accomplishments and sense of adventure when Alix joined Starfleet Academy.

Mother, Age 50, Human Farmer's Wife An Earth traditionalist and deeply religious woman. She helps her husband run a farm in rural Texas. She has always kept her daughters close, raising them with antiquated values which put emphasis on a woman's appearance and ability to care for a husband and children. She does not condone space travel and was very upset by Alix's decision to join Starfleet. They have not spoken since.

Sister, Age 22, Human College Student Abigail is the oldest of Alix's three youngest sisters. Ever the hot-head, Abigail was the sister to pick fights and try to boss everyone around. She had an especially conflict heavy relationship with Amanda, the next youngest sister. Abigail enjoyed music more than her other sisters and, when she wasn't fighting with her sisters or their friends, could be found practicing and mastering several musical instruments under their mother's instruction. She is graduating college soon as a concert cellist.

Sister, Age 21, Human College Student Amanda regards herself as "the second middle child". The most like their mother, she was favored by Renae Harford which probably contributed to her tense relationship with her two elder sisters. Amanda lived with her nose in a book or spent her time on "appropriately feminine activities" often cooking, cleaning, and sewing alongside their mother. She is now in college studying to be a teacher and has a steady relationship with a boy her mother very much approves of.

Sister, Age 17, Human High School Student The baby of the family, Abigail holds a special place in Alix's heart. Being about a decade older than Abigail, Alix helped raise Abigail and the two were nearly inseparable until the moment that Alix left for medical school. Allison is a bright young girl with a forceful charismatic personality. She is often called "the boss of the family". Allison has no need to please her parents and though she hasn't seen or heard from her oldest sister in more than four years, Alix is her hero.
