Chronological History
Growing up near the Starfleet Medical Center in San Francisco, August had often looked out at the future his parents had chosen for him with a certain level of dismay. His father, Dr. Joseph Winslett, had been a well-respected physician at the Starfleet base for many years, and his family always assumed he would follow in those footsteps. August had some proclivity for medicine, and he didn't mind being a healer. His main problem was the expectation that he work at a starbase or worse, the earthen facility itself. August had always dreamed of traveling on a starship like his older brother, Matthew. As he progressed through the Academy, he encountered the disheartening realization that he was not quite so bold or comfortable with combat as his brother or even the other cadets. In fact, studying and witnessing phaser injuries made him completely adverse to weapons training or possessing weapons of any kind. In the end, his life led him in a direction that melded his family's tradition of practicing medicine with the adventure-seeking spirit he seemed to have been born with, and he searched for positions on a Starship as the ship's doctor. August is often unsure and meek, but he is a talented physician and eager to prove himself as a valuable member of a bold and daring starship crew.
