Ensign Taelon is an El-Aurian currently serving as a science officer aboard Starbase 118 Ops & her support ship, the USS Albion. He is a recent graduate of the Academy, with Starbase 118 being his first posting. He specializes in Exotechnology, with a focus in robotics and cybernetics.

Taelon is quite tall and lanky in build, and tends to carry himself slightly hunched and drawn in, as if in a subconscious attempt to make himself seem smaller. He has notably long legs and rather bony joints.

As is common among the El-Aurian culture his family hailed from, he has notable body modifications. At the moment they merely consist of a line of piercings along the bridge and length of his nose, and geometric tattoos on his forearms.

	Personality

Taelon is generally a warm and genial sort - and notably self-effacing. Despite his age, he acts and feels rather less mature than his colleagues. A combination of an isolated, colonial upbringing and a lack of real world experience have left him knowledgeable on scientific fronts, but ultimately naive and untested. He is extremely aware of this - perhaps too aware, as his lack of confidence in his own abilities and place among his colleagues borders on crippling.

As a scientist he is skilled and dedicated to his work, often working extremely long hours and dedicating himself wholly to a problem until he is satisfied with his results. He has trouble sleeping on the best nights and will often forgo it entirely if there's work to be done. Since being introduced to it by the human colonists on Cestus III, Taelon has slowly developed something of an addiction to coffee.

	Family

Mother - Azera
Age: 729 & Born: 166410.22	A scientist of considerable merit, she studied and designed starships and transports, as well as studying and adapting the technology of other alien races when they were discovered. She was 601 when the Borg arrived at her homeworld and utterly destroyed it, leaving her little choice but to flee with the remnants of her race. She fled with her mate, Jakarn, and those of their relatives that could be found in time. But the ruin of her homeworld drove her to seek solitude. She arrived on Cestus III in 2270, not long after the Gorn had destroyed the original colony. Her presence became known to the Colonists some 30 years later, when they found her home. She had her sole child, Taelon, some decades after. To her son she was not unkind, though as he grew their personalities and ethical stances diverged sharply. Taelon left Cestus after one such disagreement turned violent. While they’ve made some effort to reconcile in the years since he left, they’ve yet to truly address - much less resolve - their differences.

Age: 503 & Born: 188006.11	An author and writer of travel literature, Jakarn is quite the opposite of his wife. He publishes holonovels under several pseudonyms, many of them based off people or places he's been; he's also known for his erotic works, something he's quite proud of. In person Jakarn is boisterous, charming, fun-loving, and quite hedonistic. He is a man who has embraced the beautiful things in life, and finds no shame in pleasure. Jakarn rarely talks about what he left behind on El-Auria. While Azera was able to find some of her relatives, he could find none. Jakarn has replaced that loss with a network of friends, lovers, and enemies; he has sired several children, all of whom he has acknowledged and met. But as he’s the sort who likes to travel, and he rarely stays in one place for long.

Taelon's extended family is large and varied; his mother has a surviving sister, along with a brother-in-law and several nieces and nephews. Taelon is the youngest pure El-Aurian in his family, and due to his mother's preference for solitude, he last saw his aunt a decade ago and has never met most of his extended family in person.

As Taelon is only a recent arrival, he does not have any notable relationships as of yet.

	History

2358	Born on the Federation colony of Cestus III.
2363	Began attending the colony’s school alongside human children his age.
2365	Met his father for the first time. The two maintain a correspondence, albeit an infrequent one.
2368	Began to be tutored by his mother with the expectation he would assist her with her research. Through her he began to learn xenobiology and xenotech, though he failed to grasp the concepts as quickly as she’d hoped.
2376	Graduated from the standard colony school.
2376 - 2388	Stayed on Cestus III as his mother’s assistant, continuing his training in xenotech and xenobiological procedures.
2388	After a disagreement with his mother turned violent, Taelon chose to leave Cestus III and attend Starfleet Academy despite her protests.
2388 - 2393	Starfleet Academy years; took an extra year at the Academy to complete a Minor in Xenolinguistics.
2393	Graduated from the Academy & departed for Starbase 118, joining the station’s crew after his cadet cruise.
