Background
Seth Cohen was born on Earth into a family of academics. His father, Stephen, urged him to follow in his footsteps and become a professor, but Seth chose Starfleet instead, more interested in exploration and travel than in manning a desk for the rest of his life.
When his mother died, weeks before entering Starfleet Academy, Seth almost rescinded his commission but pressed onward. Seth was decidedly average in his courses at Starfleet Academy, though he found the Security program to be the most interesting. Survival, tactics, and even piloting, all came naturally to him, whereas the sciences never seemed much of an interest.
Following his graduation from the Academy, Seth entered into his final placement training with nervous excitement, feeling anticipation for the first time he could recall.
