Sakur was born in a suburb of ShiKhar on Vulcan. Sakur had a standard Vulcan upbringing. He entered the Vulcan Science Academy where he attained degrees in nanotechnology and microbiology. After graduation he joined the Vulcan Science Directorate and was assigned to the VSS T'Pol where he served as a Science Officer for some 25 years attaining the rank of Lieutenant. In 2369 while making a routine check of a species that had recently attained warp capabilities.It was discovered that many of the settlements had been abducted and assimilated by the Borg. Upon closer investigation, it was discovered that the Borg had developed an aerosol nanite swarm used to assimilate entire towns at once. The crew of the VSS T'Pol was unable to prevent the Borg from assimilating a large portion of the planet. This event led Sakur to begin studying Borg assimilation in more detail, in an attempt to help prevent future assimilations. He joined Starfleet Medical and earned a Medical Degree specializing in Cybernetics and Surgery.
