Background
Krevor Bralak was born on the planet of Veridian III, a small colony on the Federation side of the Federation-Klingon border soon after his mother (J'Nara) fled political fallout from Marnok's "dealings" within Klingon society.
As far as Krevor pieced together as he grew older, his father had been a minor (and aspiring) political figure but was ultimately imprisoned for some "unspecified" crime (likely crossing one of the Noble Houses). That mattered little however as for all intents and purposes, he was raised as a Federation citizen. Krevor was among only a handful of alien species (and certainly the only Klingon) on an otherwise human-centric colony which posed many issues.
To avoid "undesirable" physical conflicts with his peers, the fellow children of the colony, Krevor took to isolating himself away from others where he channeled his energies into various studies. Starting with standard educational material for his age group but eventually finding his way into engineering and scientific fields which he would eventually obsess over and excel in enough to make a career out of.
Krevor was fortunate that his mother, J'Nara, aided Krevor in his efforts but only on the condition that he also learn about Klingon society, religious practices and more practically, Klingon martial arts to which he also grew to excel. J'Nara firmly held that they were Klingon and that shouldn't be forgotten even if they chose to live in the Federation. And more importantly, those cultural practices (such as training with bat'leths) provided Krevor with a physical "outlet" to direct his more base instincts in a healthy direction.
Krevor sought entry to Star Fleet Academy as a means of both furthering his education in the field of science but also as a means of forging a new path for his "family name".
