Background

Hawkins grew up in a working class environment. His father is a hands-on engineer, not a theorist or scholar. His mother, while functioning as an unofficial diplomat when the need arises, is a trader and a merchant at heart. Hawkins retains his roots in these down to earth values, and despite his advanced learning in science and engineering, still enjoys the simple pleasures of life.

Personality

Strengths: Adaptability, Brilliant, Leadership Potential

Weaknesses: Self-Critical, Clumsy, Naive, Takes time to warm up to people.

Hawkins has come a long way during his tour with the USS ATHENA. Initially nervous and prone to anxiety attacks in groups of people, he's since developed self-confidence and ways to cope with his shortcomings. He's driven by a strong devotion to duty and retains that work ethic his parents instilled in him.

Chronological History

Frank Hawkins spent his childhood and young adult life on board a trading ship, along with his parents and sister. The family traded in obscure ship parts mostly, for obsolete vessels, or ships with unconventional configurations, as well as scientific equipment. They explored a number of interesting cultures and regions. During his early teens, Hawkins developed a strong interest in space exploration. He also learned quite a bit about diplomacy from watching how his mother conducted herself, and some basic engineering from his father.

During a few encounters, they came across unusual alien technology. Hawkins was fascinated by the discovery, and while his parents were more interested in the business of trading it, he found himself wanting to uncover its secrets. He never got a chance to, but the desire to discover more such technology stayed with him. During this time they also had regular dealings with Starfleet. Hawkins was so impressed with their level of professionalism, he decided that entering Starfleet would give him the opportunities he sought.

Starfleet Academy

Double major: Science / Engineering

Specialization: Xeno-technology

Hawkins did mixed coursework during his first four years, combining a few non-starfleet specialty courses to give him his unusual specialty in analyzing and trying to understand technology foreign to terran science or ahead of current research.

Career History

Hawkins first post was engineering officer aboard the USS Athena. During his first mission, due to the Chief Engineer being relieved of duty, he found himself acting as the temporary Chief Engineer. During that mission he used his Academy project, the Hawkins Tachyon Sphere, to reconnect the Stardrive and Saucer of the USS ATHENA. His actions earned him the Innovation Ribbon. Afterwards, he was given the post of Assistant Chief Engineer and his first promotion to Lieutenant JG.

His promotion to Lieutenant came shortly thereafter, and he was assigned as a temporary Executive Officer during the next mission. During the subsequent shore leave, he was surprised and honored to be promoted to Lieutenant Commander and given the XO position permanently.

Hawkins decided to transfer out of the Gamma Quadrant to be more in contact with his family, and accepted the posting of Operations Chief aboard the USS Gorkon.
