Character History

Daniel knew what to do with his life as young as six. His father inspired him to become a Starfleet officer, but his mother wanted him to become a physician. In high school he achieved top grades, and was classed as a very hard working, conscientious person, who always put others first. He was known for constantly questioning teachers and sometimes coming out on top. As a member of his school's running team, he competed in many events. Whilst at Buckie High School Daniel made a friend for life, Kristopher Mann; they have continued to support each other through their chosen careers. When Daniel broke the news to Kris, that he had applied for the academy, he was devastated, and this in turn affected Daniel. They both mutually agreed they would still be there for one another even when they had parted. They see each other as much as possible, but it is difficult given Daniel's chosen career.

Daniel went into denial over his father's death and vowed to avenge the loss. He overcame his denial through an unlikely bonding with a young Klingon boy, Artok. They formed a friendship that could never be defeated, and both boys stayed in touch despite going their separate ways. As a result of this friendship, Daniel has become very fluent in Klingonese and enjoys many Klingon rituals.

After leaving school, he took a six month break to visit Qo'noS and support his friend Artok, as he joined the Klingon Defense Force. After this, he submitted his papers for the Academy and gained entrance.

Cadet Cruise

  • Daniel's cadet cruise was served aboard the Luna class vessel USS Titan, under the command of Captain William T. Riker. During his time aboard the vessel, Daniel carried out different activities, mainly his trained post as a Security Officer. The time spent on the vessel was seen as a learning experience for Daniel to see how the real world is.
  • Stardate 238302.08: Daniel served with a remarkable enthusiasm for his job, something I admire in a person. Many officers came and spoke to me and made reference to Cadet Woods remarkable ability to perform what was asked of him. During his time aboard the Titan, Daniel took part in battle drills, intruder alert simulations, Brig and Armory operations and notably the day to day Security of the ship. It has been a pleasure having Daniel serve his cruise aboard the Titan and I wish him well for the future. - Lt. Vicki Brown

Command School - Year One

  • After studying his options and deciding what was best for his ambitions and goals. Daniel decided to stay on at the Academy and continue his studies at Command School. Daniel found year one the most boring as it was mainly lectures and seminars. During his time on the first year of the Command School Daniel did learn a lot about being in command and how it should be done, having the background of helping others and his minor in Communications/Operations, greatly benefited Daniel in this part of the course.

Command School - Year Two

  • Year Two saw Daniel flourish as a budding command potential. Simulation after simulation saw Daniel lead the crew and help the crew in times of crisis. Daniel's time on the Titan had held him in good stead and certainly kept him flowing in enthusiasm till the end of the course.
  • Stardate 238309.05: I have seen many young Ensigns pass through my doors over the years, a lot of them still arrogant and cocky. However there's always the exceptional minority that are born to lead others through bad times and others, I truly believe great things could become of this young man, if he sticks at it and produces only the best, much in the same way he has given me these past two years. I hope one day to here of this young mans success and place with rest. Such as Kirk, Picard, Janeway. This young man has an extraordinary ability to lead and his manner and work ethic is certainly one to be proud of and admired. I wish him every luck for the future and hope he makes his Commanding Officers proud like he has made me. - Prof Enrique Shriver

Medical Records

Stardate 237004.16: Major reconstruction of the left arm after a shuttle accident, reconstruction of the arm was successful and no scars are left. - Dr. Amanda Robb (Chief Medical Officer)

Psychological Records

  • Stardate 237608.20: Daniel seems to be a very determined young man who has many goals and ambitions. His Dads death seems to have made him a much stronger person and has had a dramatic impact on his life. Daniel is without a doubt a very outgoing and confident person who reacts well to group and singular activities. I Lt.Cmdr Damien Scott declare Cadet Daniel Wood mentally fit for entry into the Academy. -Lt. Cmdr. Damien Scott (Chief Counselor, Starfleet Academy)
  • Stardate 237804.16: After the death of his father Daniel took it upon himself to be the man of the house and was under great stress to perform. He saw what his father did as an act of bravery for his crew and felt as if he had to do the same. After numerous counseling sessions Daniel decided that he had a very respectable father and decided that he had no obligation to live to his fathers standards. As a result of this Daniel has become a stronger psychologically developed person and would make a fine officer some day. He always put others first and listens to their problems offering excellent advice this will hold him in good stead for his first command. A note for the record is that I, Lt. Cmdr. Terri Farquhar would also like Daniel to become a counselor. -Lt. Cmdr. Terri Farquhar (Chief Counselor, Starfleet Academy)
  • Stardate 238505.02: Daniel has exhibited extensive emotional maturity since my initial psychological profile over a year ago. He is exceptionally aware of his own position and of those around him as people rather than names or numbers. I believe him to be a highly emotional man, though this can serve him both well and ill, as he may sometimes lead with his heart rather than considering the all possibilities within a given situation. However, he is more than fit for duty and is released without mandatory referral. -Lt. Cmdr. Lily Ventu (Chief Counselor, USS Independence-A)

Serving Officers Reports

  • Stardate 238501.17.: Daniel has showed outstanding potential for leadership on this course, showing nothing but command potential and skill to look after others. Daniel worked exceptionally well under harsh conditions effectively utilizing the few resources available to him. During his weapons testing, Daniel showed extreme accuracy, obviously born to wield weapons. Daniel has been certified as a team leader to the highly tactile 501st Rapid Response Task Force. He has been given command of Alpha Squad, a role I personally think he will continue to thrive in. The final test of the Rapid Response Training, which included a joint operations assault, was cancelled due to reasons I cannot disclose. I would like to take this opportunity to offer both my congratulations and best wishes for the future. I look forward to having this fine officer under my command in the missions to follow. - Cmdr. Jones (Commanding Officer, 501st Rapid Response Task Force)

Awards & Commendations

  • Stardate 238501.18: Received the Barclay Bead

Rank History

001-Cadet4th-Red.jpg Cadet 1st year

  • Daniel initially found it difficult to adapt to life in Starfleet and was rapidly falling behind in his classes. After a meeting with the Commandant, he was ordered to seek counsel to see whether this would continue or not. Lt. Cmdr. Terri Farquhar requested Daniel be placed under her care; to this day it is not clear why. Daniel stayed at a steady pace but was still behind the rest of his classmates. He barely passed his first year.

002-Cadet3rd-Red.jpg Cadet 2nd year

  • Daniel continued to see Lt. Cmdr. Farquhar and between them managed to solve his problems. Daniel worked extra hard to catch up with his classmates and sacrificed many pleasures to do so. After many months of physical training as well as mental training, Daniel sat his exams and passed with good grades. This not only boosted his confidence but what Daniel was about to achieve would boost the instructors and the Commandants confidence in Daniel.

003-Cadet2nd-Red.jpg Cadet 3rd year

  • Daniel decided it was time to end his sessions with Lt. Cmdr. Farquhar, having sought refuge with his classmates to discuss issues. His classmates now confided in Daniel more than ever, and unknown to them, both the Commandant and Lt. Cmdr. Farquhar noticed his extreme ability to deal with people and situations. Daniel was approached separately on numerous occasions, asking him to swap course from Security to Counseling, all times he refused. Daniel's confidence had grown so much that he was now questioning instructors and their theories; something he knew they didn't like. Sometimes he knew it was futile, but he got results with some of his reasoning.

004-Cadet1st-Red.jpg Cadet 4th year

  • Daniel's final year was probably his best after his continued success in class and top marks. He prepared himself mentally for the Kobayashi Maru and Psych Test. Daniel also proved highly suited to the role of a Security Officer having gained top marks in his Command test. His teacher, Lt. Cmdr. Sidney Riley, would later be First Officer upon his first posting after the Academy. After successfully completing all three tests, Daniel proudly accepted his graduation and subsequent promotion to Ensign. In attendance of his graduation was Lt. Cmdr. Farquhar, who supported Daniel through his Academy Days.

01-Ensign-Gold.jpg Ensign

  • Stardate 238310.01: Daniel received a promotion after graduating from the Academy. Daniel's first vessel was the Prometheus class vessel, USS Independence-A, under the command of Rear Admiral Anassasi.
  • Stardate 238311.05: Daniel attended a call to a fight in the Hearth Lounge. After separating the fight and helping out three fellow officers, the crewman was taken to the brig and punishment was given by Admiral Anassasi.
  • Stardate 238405.09: Daniel's first mission was an interesting one. The USS Independence-A was ordered on a rescue mission. The USS Benjamin Franklin was exploring an area in the Ithassa Region known as Bull's Run when it suddenly disappeared, its last known contact was from an emergency beacon. When the Independence arrived at the beacon, she soon found herself being pulled through a wormhole arriving at an alien way station. A great amount of data was accumulated for research. Three members of the crew were kidnapped. Admiral Anassasi, Lieutenant Makno and Ensign Wood were kidnapped, and during this time the crew attempted an extraction and rescue operation. Admiral Anassasi was able to negotiate their release and subsequent return of the USS Benjamin Franklin which had also been held captive. Once the USS Independence-A was allowed to leave, the ship traversed a wormhole which brought them to SB118. However a temporal displacement occurred and the Independence was quarantined. Facts on this mission are sketchy due to the Starfleet Department of Temporal Investigations classifying the mission details. However, something Daniel did on this mission earned him the respect of his crew and Daniel received a promotion to Lieutenant Junior Grade on Stardate 238408.07.

02-LieutenantJG-Gold.jpg Lieutenant (Junior Grade)

  • Stardate 238409.03: A celebration party held by Admiral Anassasi, in order to celebrate the crews succesful mission and the promotion of some of its senior officers turned into a disaster. The holosuite turned hostile, threatening the lives of all senior staff aboard the USS Independence-A. It turned out to be a new lifeform, all crew members were saved.
  • Stardate 238409.17: Wood's second mission saw a Search and Rescue mission take place. Whilst looking for the USS Euphrates, the USS Independence-A came under attack and was boarded by hostile aliens, believed to be T'lithians. During this mission, Wood led Security forces through the ship sweeping for intruders and also carried out a retrive and escort mission. Also whilst serving this mission he acted as a Security/Marine Liason Officer alongside Trooper Alexandria Somers. Their succesful training prevailed when Security & Marine forces worked together to defend the crew and the USS Independence-A. During this eventful mission the Independence took minor casualties, losing sixteen crew members and recording one MIA, believed to be dead; Gunnery Sergeant Highway.
  • Stardate 238411.20: Whilst docked at Midway Station, Daniel had to break off the end of his shore leave to investigate an attack on one of crew; Lt. (J.G.) Tildaen Ethelwin. Working with the Chief of Security from Midway, both mutually agreed Lt (J.G.) Wood should take the lead on the investigation. This was to be Daniels first time investigating a crime, with no help from specialists and time being of the essence, Wood utilised what resources he had to gain a secure conviction. The suspect was later captured in his quarters aboard Midway. Lt. (J.G.) Tildaen Ethelwin did not want to press charges so no charges were filed.
  • Stardate 238411.22: Wood's third mission took him on the USS Phoenix-C whilst the USS Independence-A received repairs. He was part of an away team under the command of Lt.Cmdr Sidney Riley, ordered to offer aid to the planet for an outbreak of mites. During this time Lt (J.G.) Wood was in charge of protecting the Away team from any threats along with Ensign Paul Sharpe. Whilst maintaining a line of patients into the surgery a bomb had exploded next to a generator. Wood immediatly responded to the threat to find Lt. Quinn Reynolds in a critical condition with Lt. Cmdr. Lily Ventu performing emergency medicine on her. All away team members were pulled from the planet as a precaution. Lt. (J.g.) Wood was pulled from the mission by Admiral Quinn in order to attend Officers Rapid Response School.
  • Stardate 238501.11: Wood attended the Officers Rapid Response School, where upon he was given command of Alpha Squad of the 501st Rapid Response Task Force. Cmdr Jones has nothing but high praise for him. Daniel chose to challenge himself and his team during this time, by choosing a Holodeck Simulation that required no weapons and no casualties to be taken, this was probably one of the harder programs offered by the Academy. Daniel and his team fared well in this Simulation given they hardly knew each other. During their weapons test, it became obvious that Daniel was born to be in Security, gaining high marks along with the whole division. Daniel graduated with high marks in all his tests however the final test was cancelled by Starfleet Security. The reason for this has been Classified. As of Stardate 238501.17 Daniel is now a fully qualified Starfleet Rapid Response Officer for the 501st Task Force.
  • Stardate 238502.05: The USS Independence-A, the USS Ronin and the USS Ursa Major were pulled through a wormhole to the Galactic Barrier. During this mission, Wood was left as Chief of Security and had to defend the USS Independence-A from an unknown alien threat. After a fierce firefight on Deck 7 and calling General Quarters Five, Wood managed to establish first contact. Working alongside his fellow officers, Wood was able to further communicaton but at the price of feeling the aliens severe pain. Eventually the situation was resolved and all three vessels and crews returned home, with the alien returning to a higher state of existance.
  • Stardate: 238503.24: During the second day of the USS Independence-A's trip back to DS17, a call was made to Security regarding a food fight in the Officers Lounge. Wood was ordered to attend to the Brig and take statements. Statements were taken from Officers who were innocent including Lt's Allen Cruise, Quinn Reynolds, Sharpe Paul and Ensign Eilis Eete. Admiral Anassasi concluded the punishment for the two trouble makers should be the cleaning of all 5,000 torpedoes on DS17 and for the others who joined was the cleaning of the USS Independence-A's torpedoes. Thus concluding the Investigation.
