Deep Space 17 is a starbase located in the Ithassa Region close to Gorn and Tholian space, and nearby to a neutron star by the name of Eratis. The station was abandoned for several decades until the USS Wallace was assigned to restore the outpost to active service. It had been previously abandoned during the Dominion War, as Starfleet wanted to direct their efforts elsewhere.

The station has already been the site of dramas, with a deliberate attack on the Wallace occuring during the latter's shore leave in mid-2382.
