My rant for today . . .

I came to a realization today. Depending on your view point, it's something you're either "oh yeah, that's right" or "no, shut up" or "why do I care again?". Either way, I thought it was a pretty nifty thing.

I dislike it when people (and I've done this before, I know, but I make it a thing to not do it anymore) turn around and simply assume that their character was "the first character to do this". Because then someone like me shows up, and then we turn around, with evidence, and go "well . . . no you're not". I've seen at least three characters (and those around them) that have done this before. I'll admit, I first dabbled in the "glory" of writing for the first, albeit hybrid, Brekkian in Starfleet. And I was sorely wrong - I got beat out by a PNPCs written by Lance and Ethan Brice. I did, at least, notice. Not entirely sure if I acknowledged it, but I'm acknowledging it now!

My favourite nitpick at the moment, is "first Laudean captain". This is not a hit on any character - I like reading these guys. They are fantastic characters. But lets face it. There wasn't ever just one Laudean PC in the fleet. From my count, there was about three. Not at one time. The first one to hit the position of Commanding Officer was not, in fact, Grier Reinard, but Melitta Herodion. Get as annoyed as you want - sure, Herodion only held the rank of Commander, technically DSX is/was part of the Mercury position, I don't care. Her position clearly stated "Commanding Officer of Deep Space 10". Grier Reinard was a Counsellor on the Vigilant at that time. And sure, he was the first Laudean to hit the *rank* of Captain, but he sure as hell was not the first CO. He missed that by a whole year.
