The Early Years
Alana Devar was born in Mestara, Betazed, just outside the Janaran Falls to Betazed Ambassador, Devyn Devar of the 13th House of Peace and Protection, and Arianna Sarrin-Devar, a highly renown Geologist. She was the middle child; Arista, being the eldest, was five years older than Alana. Galwyn, her brother and the youngest of the three, was only one year younger.
Her childhood and adolescent history is a bit vague, but records do report that she was born with telepathy. As most Betazoid's develop this in adolescence, she went through intense Vulcan/Betazoid meditative and controlling techniques. This strengthened a young Alana's mind, thus allowing her to not go mad with mental noise. Through these lessons she learned the Vulcan mind meld (imperative for her treatments). She learned how to control her gift, much to her parent's surprise and delight. It was apparent that her telepathic prowess was exceedingly exceptional.
It was the age of 15 that her and her family supposedly arrived on Vulcan for diplomatic matters, upon the recommendation of the Devar family friend, Tarin (who would later become Alana's mentor). Alana immediately fell in love with Vulcan, deciding to reside there after her family left. Of course this was frowned upon, but her wishes were granted. She was enrolled in the Vulcan Science Academy, for all her preliminary studies on Betazed were finished. Alana was a bright young girl, with aspirations of expanding her knowledge the best she could.
It was there it was said she met a young Vulcan male by the name of Savek (who was undoubtedly Tarin's youngest son). Apparently, there was some history between the two. Although she's never confirmed any of the happenings vocally to anyone (other than Horne Makra before he departed for Qo'nos), it was said that the two bonded, upon the grace and encouragement of both Vulcan and Betazoid families. It was also about this time that her family was off near the Neutral Zone for diplomatic affairs with the Romulans (Alana was 16/17 at the time); needless to say, her parents and siblings were killed, along with a few ships in the massacre. Sufficient evidence was found in confirming the death of both parents and sister Arista. However, no such evidence was found in Galwyn's case; but, given the circumstances, officials deemed his fate as deceased. The news was unsettling, leaving a defenseless and emotional Alana in it's wake - she even learned the nerve pinch with ill matters in mind, but finally overcame the sadness with Tarin's help.
Though she rarely speaks about that, or any other part of her personal life, it has been said that she was never really into science. Savek gave her inspiration upon her entry. When word spread of her family's death, she grew closer to the Vulcans who took her little analytical mind in. Ultimately, even through promises, Savek (who became her genetic bondmate) ended the relationship with Devar when she was 17. With child at the time, he graduated the Science Academy in pursuit of Starfleet for more logical things; he felt unsatisfactory in his bondage to a Betazoid female, and did not feel the connection as strong as it should be. This tore Alana up (who eventually miscarried due to grief and medical ailments); she turned completely cold and calculating, dedicating her life to the sciences and finding a hidden love and gift for it. She graduated at the top 15% of her class with honors.
Entering Starfleet Academy
After her graduation from the Vulcan Science Academy, at the age of 19, she thought to go to Starfleet herself to make a difference...to sedate a love of traveling she's always had, and to become an official Federation Officer. She breezed through the science and counseling/psychology courses, but was poor in the Engineering department. It was where she had the assistance of her friend, Makal Kora. She had a bit of trouble, socially, in the Academy... being shy around crowds, she found herself attracted to her other friend, Horne Makra. However, she found personal affairs to be frivolous and decided to not pursue intimate affairs.
Starfleet Years
- 238008.01 Upon the mission concerning her disappearance to the Mirror Universe, Alana was confronted with many personal revelations: including the very facts of her family's death and whereabouts, and finding her father's dubious mirror as well as her own. This crackled something within her. She secretly went to Vulcan to purge her aching emotions... The change inside the tortured Betazoid only began.
- 2381 After coming to terms about many things in her life, Alana retreated back into the arms of her people's Goddess to seek salvation and hope. With counselor Rea, she was able to put some balance to both her Vulcan teachings and Betazoid passion.
- 238110.01 Finds out she is pregnant by her best friend's (Cmr. Idril Mar) twin brother, Halla Culemerwin.
- 238207.03 Gives birth to her son, Keiran, on Deep Space 17.

Family History
Alana comes from a long line of Betazoid royal bloods, dating back generations upon generations. Her affairs with Starfleet help get the house's name out to the stars and other cultures. After Sumein's marriage to Satya, she has received all her house's powers and fortune. The fact was announced to her in late 2382 and was bittersweet; the ceremony took place in 2384. She took on the responsibilties to restore her House's creditablity. Her title, following an elaborate Betazoid ceremony after her acceptance, has become Alana, The Divine Lady of Peace and Protection of the House Devar.
Family Members and Biographies
Devyn Devar
Husband of Arianna Sarrin-Devar and father to Alana and her three siblings (including half sister, Carmen Rogers). He was the elder son of 13th House Female Heiress, Katiya Devar who married a Betazoid artisan by the name of Sorin Gavel (he, of course, took her surname). His mother, being a highly respectable citizen and noble, was titled The Divine Lady of Peace and Protection. The title passes to each head of the 13th House.
Devyn grew up in a household with one younger sister by the name of Raina. As an adult, Devyn accepted the role of Divine Lord of Peace and Protection when Raina refused any connection to the house.
A delegate and Ambassador of the UFOP and Betazed, Devyn became an influential figure for male Betazoids and fellow delegates alike. Most men in Betazoid culture have often been perceived as the lesser sex, giving in to the influence of their female counterparts. Devyn became the exception when he took the reins of the 13th House, setting a definite marker and helping clear the way for equality of sexes.
He had an affair with Wilma (Carmen's mother), though his infidelity was not a reflection of how much the man loved his family. Wilma Rogers was a Terran woman, who worked closely as an Administrative Assistant in his circle. Though he cared for Wilma greatly, most believe his adultery to be a result of problems at home (i.e. the stress of having a daughter, Alana, that was sick with psionic noise).
He was known for his passion on the written word and how his speeches rolled from his mouth with such fire and passion. It was from this commitment and dedication did Devyn become one of the most notable figures of StarFleet.
However, the man's life was cut short by negotiations held near the Nuetral Zone. Revelations in the Mirror Universe led Alana to the real reason of her father's death -- he was imprisoned and murdered by the Mirror Alliance members.
Arianna Sarrin-Devar
Arianna was the daughter of a Karawati Priestess and Betazoid nobleman, but did not belong to any distinguished House, therefore, when she married Devyn she took his surname and hyphenated it to her maiden. Arianna inherited her mother's exotic looks and the uncommon "blonde" tresses that are a rarity amongst her people. It was told to her at a young age that Karawati deemed the blonde Betazoids the keepers of the temples, although Arianna had much more decided for her life that veered her away from the religion -- that was school, where she eventually met Devyn and became a well known Geologist.
Arianna was a main stay in Alana's difficult child hood when she endured excessive treatments for her telepathy. She cried for the welfare of her young daughter, finding it hard to pick to lesser of two evils: The complete numbing effects of Vulcan training or the madness of her telepathy. She would often fix her youngest daugher Amathalea Tea to sooth her nerves. Alana named her son after Arianna's father, Keiran Sarrin.
Arianna was on Devyn's ship when it was captured and destroyed by Mirror Alliance members. Biosignatures of Devyn, Arianna and Arista were found in the proximity of the massacre, leading Star Fleet officials to originally conclude they were deceased. However, it has never been completely confirmed with bodily evidence. In the revelation with the Mirror Alliance, Mirror Devyn specifically said to Alana that the family she knew in her reality were killed by members of the Alliance, but that there could be chance that Galwyn could be alive...
Galwyn Devar
Galwyn is the youngest of three children by Devyn and Arianna, and is one year younger than Alana. At the age of the attack of his father's ship and escorts, that would make the Ambassador's only son at the age of fifteen.
Galwyn has only been seen as a child in Alana's flashbacks and dreams. They are often seen having small sibling arguments or playing along the 13th House Estate. The latter are more than likely dreams, as Alana's condition rarely kept her from actually enjoying a life outside the Betazoid mental institution.
It has come to Alana's attention during the mission that placed her face to face to the Mirror Universe that her brother could very well be still alive. The fact was later proved when he showed his presence during the marriage ceremony between Sumein and Satya.
The mission on the Independence that revealed the revelations of her family's fate also included a Romulan nemesis by the name of V'Teyr. After this man's capture from Starfleet, he underwent rehabiliation and counseling; after which he has since gone by the name Gal Teyr. It was also revealed that he had stolen the artifacts from the 13th House's possession which were later returned.
Arista Devar
Alana's eldest sister, Arista, was the prodigy child of her parents and was enrolled in honor schools. She had just entered the University of Betazed and completed her second semester when she took the infamous trip with her parents during leave time. A bright future was in store for this aspiring Biologist and artisan. Her paintings still hang in the walls of the 13th House.
There was an unspoken rivalry between Alana and Arista; Arista, Alana felt, was brighter and more beautiful than she could ever be. Even though it was confirmed of Arista's death by biosignature traces, she is most active in Alana's dreams. It usually comes forth during a stressful event passing in the darker-haired sister's life, when she feels most helpless and inferior. Even though Arista was the mediator through the childhood conflicts of Galwyn and Alana, the two sisters loved each other even if the rivalry pursued.
Sumein Devar
Well, here's something different: Sumein is ALIVE and has married into the 2nd House. Shrewd and cunning, Sumein is the definition of royalty and snobbery, though Alana seems to curb some of this young boy toy's personality when she visits. Sumein is praised for his work in Betazoid History and the ethics of religious sects.
Even with the disapproval of his mother, Raina, Sumein remains committed to his arranged marriage to Satya Ailyn, daughter of the Second House of Betazed.
Raina Devar
Raina is the younger sister of Devyn Devar and mother to the heir, Sumein. Raina mainly keeps to herself as an ancient philosphy researcher, who owns a shoppe in the heart of Mestara. She is currently alive and well, running the shoppe and working at the local museums. It has been said that she isn't half right in the head; being born with the abilities of telepathy and the inability to screen out empathic waves (much like a younger Alana), Raina has suffered irreversible damage to her psyche. She denies any connection to the 13th house and blames a lot of things on instances that have never happened; it has been said by some that she is a soothe seer.
Carmen Rogers
Carmen is the half sister of Alana Devar, and has a spunkier, more zealous energy about her. Like Arista, Alana has pin-pointed qualities about Carmen that she both envies and marvels over. When she first found out Carmen was her long lost half sister from Tarin (who, consequentially, was studying the agenda for years), Alana was a bit resentful and curious as to why her father took a mistress while he was married to her mother, Arianna. However, after time and a mind-meld later, things became a bit more clearer: This was a blessing from the Goddess herself. She had a sister that was *alive*, and despite her father's adultry, this was the best gift she had for years. Once stationed on the Independence, Carmen has accepted a TOP secret unknown mission and only StarFleet Intelligence knows her location -- she is a liason of much importance.
Keiran Culemerwin Devar
The son of Alana Devar and Halla Culemerwin, born on stardate 238207.03 on Deep Space 17. He is half Trill and Betazoid. He was born one month premature, at 18 inches long and weighing in at six and half pounds. He was born, also, with a full head of pale blonde hair.
Being born a hybrid of two species, Keiran physically has the classic Trill spots lining either side of his body. As for having the gifts of empathy or telepathy, that is yet to be seen, though Alana swears that he stumbles innocently in her thoughts.
Avalon Culemerwin-Devar
The daughter of Alana Devar and Halla Culemerwin, born on stardate 238501.14, on Betazed. She is half Trill and Betazoid.
Love Life
See psychological profile for information on how these relationships have impacted her mentally.
Savek
This Vulcan was Alana's genetic bondmate, given upon the grace and encouragement of both Vulcan and Betazoid families. Her dedication, devotion and near marriage to him came in her later teen years, near the time her family headed towards the Neutral Zone for diplomatic affairs that ended tragically. Shortly after, Savek ended the relationship with Devar. Alana was with child at the time. Savek graduated the Science Academy in pursuit of Starfleet for more logical things; he felt unsatisfactory in his bondage to a Betazoid female. A grieving Alana would later miscarry due to profound sadness and medical ailments.
Savek is now married with children by a Vulcan woman named T'Panu. Savek is Tarin's (Alana's Mentor and Teacher) son.
Although they parted not on the best of terms, Alana never mentions Savek. The only individual that knows, beyond Tarin, would be Horne Makra. It is not a subject she cares to discuss.
Horne Dar Makra
Makra (a Bajoran and Klingon hybrid) and Alana met in the Academy during their first year. Even though they both had trouble adjusting socially, they found friendship in one another and another classmate, Makal Kora. Shortly after being posted to the same ship, Alana and Makra's relationship gradually became a more romantic one and was professed as such during their trip together on Bajor.
They shared numerous passionate encounters that was a lot more than just physical: but love for Alana. She had held an attraction for him for several years, but would not admit it fearing the incident with Savek might repeat itself. Enduring many trials (ie: Serpentai Mission, his family's death, her state of mind, et cetera), and after the wedding engagement of the two, Makra left to find a peace in himself at Qo'nos.
Having just confronted the testimonies of the true whereabouts and death of her family, Alana recoiled and slumped back into Vulcan mode where she ignored any connection with him. As time passed, Alana noted the error of her ways and sought help with Counselor T'Anya Rea, who was able to assist in melding both sides of Alana together into one. For a time she felt lost from him, and for a time he returned to her though their reunion was short lived. Having told him that she was to be his First Officer upon the transference of the Wallace, the two grew further apart. She used the term Imzadi in reference to Horne Makra, as he was the first to accept who she was and took her in full body and spirit.
Their relationship has since sizzled, but she will always hold a special place in her heart for her first actual love.
Daydan Taboo
The two have a love/hate relationship that feeds off of rivalry in scientific studies. Although Alana has never pursued Daydan romantically, their heated bouts often resembled a type of Betazoid flirting. Despite her reservations, Alana respects Daydan and, even if she denies it, is attracted to him.
Halla Culemerwin
Alana met this mysterious, handsome Trill man one trip back to Betazed. They shared hearty conversations and a mutual interest. Come to find out a little later, the man that she had dinner with and an enchanted walk under the blanket of Betazed stars, was the twin brother of her best friend, Idril Mar.
She did not realize the irony of the situation until she met him during Idril's ritual to connect with previous hosts back on Trill. It was there the two gave in to their mutual attraction. He is the father of Alana's child, Keiran, which was the product of that spur of the moment tryst.
Halla has a special place in the woman's heart. After the birth of their son, they have been sharing quarters and making a quasi-married life together.
