Team Leaders
So, you've been asked to lead a team - either for a Mission, during Shore Leave, or some other task the staff has entrusted to you, and you need to know what to do. Below are some basic guidelines to give you a basic framework to make some decisions and know what your CO, XO and other Department Heads are looking for you to take on.
- First and foremost, take a breath. No one is looking for perfection from you, It's going to be ok.
- You're there to answer questions about the task at hand. What does that mean? Generally you're going to be leading a specific task - part of a mission, or a shore leave plot, etc., so try to be prepared to answer questions about that mission, that scene, and so on. If you aren't sure you can run it up to a Department Head or the staff, but keep in mind we're having fun, so if the question is a plot question, the staff will likely back you up if you answer in the context of the mission, so feel free to answer and just let the staff know you took care of it.
- If it's a personnel question, just forward it along to the staff, don't sweat it! The staff can worry about things outside the purview of the Team, but do let them know about it!
- Help organize. If you're a Team Leader among other Team Leaders - common when leading a Team during a mission for instance, help reach out and coordinate. This doesn't need to be, and shouldn't be onerous, just reach out on Discord, the OOC groups, or whatever makes sense where it makes sense as teams are working toward a common goal.
- Finally, write! Write often, and write well. The members of your team are looking up to you as a de facto mentor, so be sure you are following all the guidelines set forth in the rest of this Manual, but especially, sim *full-time* whenever possible, and with good sim hygene.
Thank you volunteering for this very important post, it is very appreciated!
