Roshanara Rahman
Dr. Roshanara Rahman is a 44-year-old project manager for the Starfleet Corps of Engineers and a Starfleet Academy instructor. She previously served aboard the starships Shanghai, Tempest, Pioneer, Mercury, and Garuda, the latter two as chief engineer. Born on SD 235612.15 on Moselina IV, a busy trade stop located near Krios Prime, the Kriosian homeworld, Roshanara's birth parents gave her up for adoption, and a human couple took her in, named her, and raised her back on Earth in the city of Lahore. Often mistaken for a Trill due to her Kriosian spots, she joined Starfleet because of her interest in starship design and engineering, an interest that has not come without a cost as she was gravely injured early in her career from a major accident that required lengthy rehabilitation.
Following a major breach of security and acts of sabotage that occurred on the Garuda on SD 239107, Roshanara was relieved of her post and placed under investigation to determine her involvement with what had happened. She was formally arrested on SD 239108.03 on charges of sabotage and treason. The results of the investigation ultimately resulted in the dropping of all charges against her on SD 239110.07.
However, the investigation also revealed her previously confidential status as a Kriosian empathic metamorph, which had been exploited by Harrison Ross to betray his shipmates and Starfleet. Because Roshanara had never learned how to control her empathic abilities (and in fact had only discovered that she was a metamorph one year prior), she was particularly susceptible to the influence of others around her. She was deemed a security risk and declared unfit for duty. She subsequently took a leave of absence, returning to Earth. On SD 239112.14, she accepted a civilian position as project manager for the SCE.
