Ensign Kuva is currently serving as an Engineer aboard the USS Artemis-A. A recent graduate of Starfleet Academy, the Vulcan ensign is still seeking to make his mark as a notable crewman aboard the ship. His father was a well regarded First Officer for a long time with Starfleet, killed in action aboard the USS Agrippa right as Kuva entered adolescence. The young Vulcan spend much of his time on earth after, taken care of by Sorev's long-time, Bolian ally, Sgaron Wono. That time was split between studying time-space mechanics in Sorev's honor, and helping Wono on the Bolian's farm, learning basic engineering and mechanical skills. Kuva is oddly ambitious for a Vulcan, but believes that he, logically, has much to prove to Starfleet. Background

The young Kuva finds himself constantly harassed by the unknown variables of his past, looming like vague shadows of improbability. His father Sorev - a Lieutenant serving aboard the USS Seleucus as a time-space researcher - took a year's shore leave after a decade in service without so much as a second of tardiness to stain his record. The mysterious, otherwise closed-off Sorev returned from that shore leave with the infant Kuva in his arms, only to speak of the mother: "she passed shortly after giving birth--I wish to go no further litigating this subject."

So it was that Kuva came to be, not on the home planet of his people, but surrounded by his father Sorev's ambitious peers in Starfleet. Not long after his fifth birthday, Kuva's father accepted a promotion--First Officer aboard the USS Agrippa; Sorev recruited long-time research partner Sgaron Wono on as Chief Engineer.

Not long after Kuva turned 12, the Agrippa was caught in a rogue ion storm that threatened to tear the ship in two. With the Captain killed in action, Sorev found himself promoted in the field--and otherwise unable to save the ship, personally evacuated the entire, remaining population of the Agrippa before he and the ship were lost in the storm. Even at his prepubescent age, Kuva could not accept that his father died a hero: "He did what any captain is supposed to do--saved the crew, went down with the ship, and he didn't permit himself to look back."

Taken into custody by Chief Wono and his wife, Sue, Kuva spent the next few years preparing himself to enter the Academy. He studied time-space science in a way of following in Sorev's footsteps, but Wono found the Vulcan quite handy with a hydrospanner--often putting the quick-learning boy to work on his apple orchard after having retired from the service upon surviving the Agrippa incident.

Kuva still struggles with the loss of his father, feeling as though he has little place in the world outside of a starship. Most of all, he struggles not knowing if he is 100% Vulcan--and if not, what percent of him is what else. In spite of his best efforts to be fully Vulcan, turning into a sapient machine of reason and logic, Kuva always wonders--what variable of my self am I missing, that which affects the data as I calculate it?

Not a great people person in his own right, Kuva found himself very fond of Terran extracurriculars--sports such as baseball and basketball, drama and theatre, even music and literary composition. Unable to comprehend his own, genetic sense of self, Kuva appropriated one from across the galactic scale of art and sport to create one for himself. This earned him many "teammates" and "collaborators", which in their own right became acquaintanceships and friendships in turn.
