Chronological History

Born on Earth in the large Canadian metropolis of Waterloo to James and Nancy Atwood, Blake grew up away from most of Starfleet, enjoying a more traditional upbringing on Earth. James was a private engineer, interested in a more free-form approach to his life rather than a structured and rigorous lifestyle as prescribed by Starfleet and the military. His mother, Nancy, was a successful psychologist, though her work was mostly restricted to humans as she was, largely, earthbound. Combined influences created an interesting childhood for Blake. His father, in his spare time, built and repaired old cars, as well as land speeders of various kinds. This is where he developed his enjoyment of being the "driver", which eventually led to an interest in one of his eventual Starfleet minor in helm and navigation. His mother instilled an interest in the mind, understanding people and reading their emotions, sometimes for their benefit, other times for his own. Eventually this resulted in counselling becoming his major in Starfleet.

Sharing a close relationship with his younger brother Joseph, they both competed casually with one another. However, when he seemed intent on attending Starfleet, Blake's career path took a dramatic turn with the death of his father in 2394, when Blake was on the verge of attending the academy at the age of 18. He became distant and uninterested in anything that involved hard work and his future. He spent much of his time travelling, and "enjoying" himself. His mother became concerned, and Blake, over time, became alienated from his brother Joseph, who two years later left for the academy. Many of Blake's personal problems were exacerbated when he met Carolyn Taylor in New Orleans on one of his many excursions who would briefly become his wife.

After a fortunate end to that relationship, Blake stumbled back into the lives of his family, and with his brother's encouragement, now as an Ensign and Starfleet engineer, enrolled into Starfleet Academy.
