Deep Space 17 is a starbase located in the Ithassa Region close to Gorn and Tholian space, and nearby to a neutron star by the name of Eratis. The station was abandoned for several decades until the USS Wallace was assigned to restore the outpost to active service. It had been previously abandoned during the Dominion War, as Starfleet wanted to direct their efforts elsewhere.

The station has already been the site of dramas, with a deliberate attack on the Wallace occuring during the latters shore leave in mid 2382.

History

The Deep Space class was conceived late in the 23rd century as a small, well-armed space station capable of supporting 150 officers comfortably, with an emergency capacity of 950. Deep Space 17 was originally constructed as Space Station K-35 between 2309 and 2312 at the edge of the Ithassa region. It was originally intended to keep an eye on the Tzenkethi, but it was abandoned as too indefensible during the first Tzenkethi war and was decommissioned. It was occupied by the Tzenkethi between 2341 and 2343, until they, too, abandoned it.

With increased tensions in the Ithassa region, Starfleet recommissioned the station as Deep Space 17. Modern fleets now hopelessly outgun it, and a process of upgrading the weapons systems and shields is now in process. The landing pads, used for medium-sized ships of its era, are now useless for anything more than smaller vessels such as the Sabre class and shuttles. Defiant class, of course, do not have landing gear, so cannot land on the pads.
