The gold Captains pips I only added because someone was already using them and the pips were trying to be like mine, but looked horrible next to all the other perfectly good ones, so... not my fault, but I'll fix it anyway. What do you think of the updated Ronin NPC listing? :) Wasn't sure what to do with the Civies, but the rest were simple. -[[User:Jackford B. Kolk|Jackford B. == marine Ranks? ==
Hey Salak I just want to make a request that you and wolfie, and the gang look into this please.
Right now in Reality, the Marine Corps. belong to the Army, and have army ranks despite being involved with the Air Force and Navy! Now a good friend told me that SB:118 does not allow marine ranks. why not? aren't we suppose to make this as realistic as possible?
BFinfobase have the pip images and you can go on wiki, to see the comparative which is the following:
Ensign : [http://bfinfobase.org/images/4/45/Green-o-1.png 2nd Lieutenant] <br>
Lieutenant J.G. :[http://bfinfobase.org/images/f/f2/Green-o-2.png 1st Lieutenant] <br>
Lieutenant : [http://bfinfobase.org/images/d/de/Green-o-3.png Captain] <br>
Lieutenant Commander : [http://bfinfobase.org/images/e/ec/Green-o-4.png Major] <br>
Cmdr. : [http://bfinfobase.org/images/a/a9/Green-o-5.png Lieutenant-colonel] <br>
Capt. : [http://bfinfobase.org/images/3/3a/G-o6.png Colonel] <br>
Commodore : [http://bfinfobase.org/images/e/ed/Green-o-7.png Brigadier-General] <br>
Rear Admiral : [http://bfinfobase.org/images/a/a3/Green-o-8.png Major-General] <br>
Vice Admiral : [http://bfinfobase.org/images/a/a3/Green-o-8.png Lieutenant-general] <br>

Fleet Admiral : [http://bfinfobase.org/images/b/b2/Green-o-11.png Marshall] <br>
I think adding this to applicants form will also add a new dimension to our entire simming, and the department is known as "Marine Corpoarations of dettachment"
even Memory alpha have these ranks listed...
I hope you do accept this suggestion. :)
== Some considerations ==
Hello there. | |||
Salak, I've been talking with our good friend Zekyel about this.
Memory Alpha has a [http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Ranks_and_insignia_of_Starfleet#Miscellaneous Comparative Chart] for StarFleet Ranks and 21st Century Mil.
The discussion here is: Can a SIMMER use the 21st Rank structure for Marines and other Ground based military units on SB118?
As far as I know, StarFleet re-structured the entire military ranks, so the Marine Corps use the same structure.
Actually, Marine Corps are not officially listed as valid Post of Duty on SB118.
What do you think my friend?
Regards! | |||

== Ship Navs == | |||
I've been cruising the Help Section and familiarizing with what you, Varaan and Wolf have been doing and have a question: would it be easier for what remaining Fleet ships are left that do not have navs to create templates for the specific area (Active, Inactive, LoD) as was already done for the boiler templates? [[User:DCody|DCody]] 18:26, 4 January 2008 (CST)

== Hiding boilerplates ==
I don't know how it works. You should find an example on Wikipedia, look at it's template page, see how it works, and try it here :) I don't think it has anything to do with javascript or HTML -- I'm sure it's a function built into the wiki. --[[User:FltAdml. == SB118 Attached ==
I'm curious as to why you're listing the Constitution and Ronin as SB118 attached? Also, we can remove the Columbia, as that's really more just an Inactive ship. And I'd call these "Attached Sites" or "Attached Installations" or "Attached Outposts" or something similar, since they're not all ships. --[[User:FltAdml. Wolf|Wolf]] /[[User talk:FltAdml. I'm trying to get a drop shadow in behind, and one extension makes it solid, another leaves it as a drop shadow but puts an ugly colour in the background that isn't supposed to be there, etc. Each one looks fine in photo shop, and crap when I upload it here! -[[User:Varaan|Varaan]] 13:23, 29 January 2008 (CST)

==RE: Template:Susan Banks==
Hi Salak, I've been trying to get the menu on the left... period. Only have it on there. I finally figured a way to do it. I DID create a template. But when I put <nowiki>{{banks}}</nowiki> at the top of the main page it didn't show up. So I did the next best thing I could think of: I put the entire code in. And it worked, too. I really don't want anything complicated. Just the two pages.
Instructions are not for beginners. I've found that once I learn how to do it, then I can understand the instructions. I really do want to learn this. I'm reading the instructions over and over again. Somehow I'm missing something. [[User:Susan Banks|Susan Banks]] 10:01, 30 January 2008 (CST)
==RE: More about templates==
I did want the single name [banks]. I now have figured out how to do it with ease. Take a look at Carrington and Chen for me. Did I get it right this time? [[User:Susan Banks|Susan Banks]] 20:55, 2 February 2008 (CST)
==RE: Irrelevent pics==
As my character profile had stated, there are some classes of ships that are Federation standard that belong to the faction my character is associated with. I've posted some and pictures of his homeworld and some pictures of relative. If some seem irrelevant and would cost, I'll take away. No one ever told me there needs to be a limit. - [[User:Excalibur|Jacen]]
:I COULD put up an entirely seperate page about the faction my character originated from, but that might take time. Please tell me what CAN I do about writing and tell me directly again about the pictures. I'll mark the ones that are relavent and even write a page about them so when u click on the pictures in the gallery, you get a page of relavence about them. I got time to write specs on the ships of this faction. I'm a creative man.
:The first few is obviously what my character looks like. I picked Christian Bale cause he's a favorite actor of mind. I'll take a couple more off if the ones of him are bothing you. I'll take off a couple of the others as well. There really isnt much to work with here on my character and his faction. I thought it would be better to just compress all the information about him and his people in one page. If I am allowed another page to actually write my character's faction, then I'll think of something.
:The other pictures of people are my character's immediately family, his siblings in particular. I havent decided what his parents should look like as a reference. If you click on each picture, there is the page of them and a small description
:I dont know how to caption my pictures. I can explore around the buttons and see if i can work with, but just tell me how to make captions so u dont have to click on every picture for the more detailed page about them.
:What do you think I've done with my page so far. I am looking for feedback and advice. Ask me any questions and tell me things I should remove over what is relevant or not.

==Stellar Cart. vs Astromony==
''Technically'' they're not the same thing. Stellar Cartography is the '''geography''' of space, while astronomy is the scientific study of space and its contents (not all of which would be "geographic" in nature). If anything, Stellar Cartography should be a sub-category of Astronomy. -[[User:Varaan|Varaan]] 11:15, 18 March 2008 (EDT)

== We need an "OOC note" template ==
I think we need a way to show OOC data inline with the rest of an article. Any ideas? I was thinking a combination of sorts between something looking like the new cleanup template, and the SB118 ship nav template.
See [[Trinity Sector]] for how this would be used. --[[User:FltAdml. Wolf|Wolf]] /[[User talk:FltAdml. Wolf|talk page]] 02:04, 21 March 2008 (EDT)
: Yeah, I've given up on all the complicated stuff Wikipedia does with templates. There seems to be some coding in place on their installation that's not obvious to me and can't easily be done here.
: I'd like to segregate the OOC text a little more, just because I don't think the indent/italics is entirely obvious for noobs. Plus, I think it'll force people to include only OOCs which are logical. I think the stuff about positioning in Trinity Sector is a bit out of place, personally. --[[User:FltAdml. ==Stars==
I have been doing some reading... but am not sure what info I should try and add to the star listing under each system in the Trinity sector I have made... any suggestions? [[User:Canreb|Canreb]] 21:56, 16 April 2008 (EDT)
I was think about what you said... I think we could easily delete the separate page for each star in the Trinity sector... Instead just leave the info on the first page... the main system page... the one you go to when you click on the system name from the Trinity sector page... we should just leave the info at the top above the information regarding the location of the sector... that would require deleating the star from the template code for each star system... I'm not sure I want to start messing with the codes yet... copy and change sure... delete... not so sure... beside you told me deleting pages is for admin staff... I don't think we should delete the star info... and I hope that you find a way to include the star info for the other region undergoing rewrite... I think it is important to include the star info... it just doesn't need it's own page... What do you think? [[User:Canreb|Canreb]] 23:37, 16 April 2008 (EDT)
I deleted the star from the Template: {{Gamma Taboa system}}, the star page had not been created yet... I think this is what we should do with the other systems within the Trinity Sector... the star info is recorded first on the main page for the star system... [[User:Canreb|Canreb]] 01:18, 17 April 2008 (EDT)
:Having the star page separate '''IS''' important. It's a separate entity, just like each planet, whether inhabitable or not, is a separate entity. The star pages, unless something unusual happens to/with/because of the star, will be very short, yes. But the page should be there nonetheless.-[[User:Varaan|Varaan]] 15:14, 17 April 2008 (EDT)

Checking the '''Star Trek Star Charts''' book the one from which the star maps have been copied for our use here at this wikki shows that both the Jenatris Cloud and Jenatris Corridor should be located 4 sectors directly east on the edge of Federation space... I have no problem doing the work to place it in the right location... heck I am even willing to fill in the data for the 3 space sectors inbetween... I have almost finished the Klingon Part of the Trinity Sector... and have some notes for the Romulan part which is smaller... which brings up the question... instead of putting all the systems in the side nav window... why not just leave them as they are... listed alphabetically by system and empire... only put races... empire and other info in the side nav window??? I am almost finished working on the Trinity Sector... just working on the Romulan systems now... I was thinking that we should delete the systems from the nav window... Also now that I was able to add a image of just the Trinity sector each system should have a brief 1 or 2 line description after a 1 line description of it's location on the Trinity Sector map... that way someone can scroll down and look at a system then scroll up to find it on the map... no need to flip back and forth between pages... == Tiger deck layout ==
One of the important parts of the deck layout that we always played on the Phoenix-C was the staircase behind the viewscreen leading down to the CO/FO quarters -- no way to access them directly via turbolift. You may also want to review the Phoenix deck layout to see how the "Bridge Module"/Port/Starboard deck layouts figure in. That table was setup to show how the unique deck layout separates areas that may be on the same deck. (i.e.- can't get to cargo bay 1 from cargo bay 4, without going down to deck 5 first.) Scrutinize [[:Image:Steam detail.gif|this image]] for more clarity on the subject. --[[User:FltAdml. Wolf|Wolf]] /[[User talk:FltAdml. Wolf|talk page]] 20:07, 5 May 2008 (EDT)
:I mis-spoke slightly. Bridge module has three levels, not four. The fourth deck would be right under the deck module and span about 3/4 of the width of the ship. Though, between the graphic I posted and the one you posted, there are noticeable differences. So, give-or-take -- but either way, keep in mind how the bridge module is separate from the other areas. --[[User:FltAdml. Wolf|Wolf]] /[[User talk:FltAdml. ==Planetary Names==
The way I've been doing it is this: if a planet has an indigenous sentient population, I'll name the planet page after whatever the people call it (ie. Earth as opposed to Sol III). Unlike our solar system, however, the other planets that DON'T have populations, will get named after their stellar positioning in the system (ie. Should be Sol I, not Mercury, Sol II, not Venus - though the naming would be mentioned/explained in the page write-up). Again...no real rule here, though maybe we want to make one and stick with it.-[[User:Varaan|Varaan]] 11:15, 3 June 2008 (EDT)
:What? Giving up so easily? ;) Okay, how about we do it this way then:
:#If there are people living on the planet, and they have given it a different name from what the stellar positioning would be, we title the page after the planet's "name." We still mention the stellar positioning in the description. We also make a redirect page from the stellar position name to the planet "name" page.
:#If there are no people living on the planet, we title the page after the stellar positioning, and mention the name given to the planet (if there is one) in the description. We also make a redirect page from the planet "name" page to the stellar position name.
:Ex. Sol system - each planet would be Sol, I, Sol, II, etc with the names "Mercury", "Venus" etc mentioned in the description. "Sol III" however would only be a redirect page to "Earth".
:Question: What if people didn't live there, then did? ie. Sol IV becomes inhabited (people living on Mars). Should the page name still be Sol IV, or should it be "Mars"? -[[User:Varaan|Varaan]] 11:33, 3 June 2008 (EDT) |

Pips
Hey, Salak, look at the discussion here. -Varaan 08:00, 5 December 2007 (CST)
-Jackford B. Kolk 09:06, 5 December 2007 (CST)
marine Ranks?
Hey Salak I just want to make a request that you and wolfie, and the gang look into this please.
Right now in Reality, the Marine Corps. belong to the Army, and have army ranks despite being involved with the Air Force and Navy! Now a good friend told me that SB:118 does not allow marine ranks. why not? aren't we suppose to make this as realistic as possible?
BFinfobase have the pip images and you can go on wiki, to see the comparative which is the following:
Ensign : 2nd Lieutenant
Lieutenant J.G. :1st Lieutenant
Lieutenant : Captain
Lieutenant Commander : Major
Cmdr. : Lieutenant-colonel
Capt. : Colonel
Commodore : Brigadier-General
Rear Admiral : Major-General
Vice Admiral : Lieutenant-general
Admiral : General
Fleet Admiral : Marshall
I think adding this to applicants form will also add a new dimension to our entire simming, and the department is known as "Marine Corpoarations of dettachment"
even Memory alpha have these ranks listed...
I hope you do accept this suggestion. :)
Some considerations
Hello there.
Salak, I've been talking with our good friend Zekyel about this.
Memory Alpha has a Comparative Chart for StarFleet Ranks and 21st Century Mil.
Regards!
Jhen
No that was me! When I applied the character was called Jhan but I mistyped it as Jhen later on and it stuck. Hutch 04:55, 23 December 2007 (CST)
Boiler Templates
Whoops... forgot that *chuckle* DCody 08:29, 2 January 2008 (CST)
I've been cruising the Help Section and familiarizing with what you, Varaan and Wolf have been doing and have a question: would it be easier for what remaining Fleet ships are left that do not have navs to create templates for the specific area (Active, Inactive, LoD) as was already done for the boiler templates? Hiding boilerplates
I don't know how it works. You should find an example on Wikipedia, look at it's template page, see how it works, and try it here :) I don't think it has anything to do with javascript or HTML -- I'm sure it's a function built into the wiki. --Wolf /talk page 18:22, 14 January 2008 (CST)
SB118 Attached
I'm curious as to why you're listing the Constitution and Ronin as SB118 attached? Also, we can remove the Columbia, as that's really more just an Inactive ship. And I'd call these "Attached Sites" or "Attached Installations" or "Attached Outposts" or something similar, since they're not all ships. --Wolf /talk page 18:37, 14 January 2008 (CST)

RE: Template:Susan Banks
Hi Salak, I've been trying to get the menu on the left... period. Only have it on there. I finally figured a way to do it. I DID create a template. But when I put {{banks}} at the top of the main page it didn't show up.
Susan Banks 10:01, 30 January 2008 (CST)
RE: More about templates
I did want the single name [banks]. I now have figured out how to do it with ease. Take a look at Carrington and Chen for me. Did I get it right this time? Susan Banks 20:55, 2 February 2008 (CST)
RE: Irrelevent pics
As my character profile had stated, there are some classes of ships that are Federation standard that belong to the faction my character is associated with. I've posted some and pictures of his homeworld and some pictures of relative. If some seem irrelevant and would cost, I'll take away. No one ever told me there needs to be a limit. - Jacen
- I COULD put up an entirely seperate page about the faction my character originated from, but that might take time. Please tell me what CAN I do about writing and tell me directly again about the pictures. I'll mark the ones that are relavent and even write a page about them so when u click on the pictures in the gallery, you get a page of relavence about them. I got time to write specs on the ships of this faction. I'm a creative man.
- The first few is obviously what my character looks like.
- The other pictures of people are my character's immediately family, his siblings in particular. I havent decided what his parents should look like as a reference. If you click on each picture, there is the page of them and a small description
- I dont know how to caption my pictures. I can explore around the buttons and see if i can work with, but just tell me how to make captions so u dont have to click on every picture for the more detailed page about them.
- What do you think I've done with my page so far. I am looking for feedback and advice. Ask me any questions and tell me things I should remove over what is relevant or not.
- I am starting to write about the sections about Gaia first, I need to know how do i do a particular edit
- I'm using this page as a template, but I want to put a picture of Gaia on the right top side like the one in Memory Alpha and then under it, the general list of information. Can you tell me how do i do that?
H92o conversation with Salak
- first off thank you so much for all you do.
- The spinning globe is like 7-9 actual images placed on top of one another. so shrink I could do cause I have the original I could also cut the number of images as well. see [1] GNU Image Manipulation Program -- if you like I can convert any flat square image to a spinning globe when needed with Gimp.
- Just to let you know I have developed just the titles of new species in our Eagles science dept. - I think I might of gone a little to far with some but If you want to categorize the ones that you thing are promising - thanks in advance for the help.

Stellar Cart. vs Astromony
Technically they're not the same thing. Stellar Cartography is the geography of space, while astronomy is the scientific study of space and its contents (not all of which would be "geographic" in nature). If anything, Stellar Cartography should be a sub-category of Astronomy. -Varaan 11:15, 18 March 2008 (EDT)

We need an "OOC note" template
I think we need a way to show OOC data inline with the rest of an article. Any ideas? I was thinking a combination of sorts between something looking like the new cleanup template, and the SB118 ship nav template.
See Trinity Sector for how this would be used. --Wolf /talk page 02:04, 21 March 2008 (EDT)
- Yeah, I've given up on all the complicated stuff Wikipedia does with templates. There seems to be some coding in place on their installation that's not obvious to me and can't easily be done here.
- I'd like to segregate the OOC text a little more, just because I don't think the indent/italics is entirely obvious for noobs. Plus, I think it'll force people to include only OOCs which are logical. I think the stuff about positioning in Trinity Sector is a bit out of place, personally. --Wolf /talk page 02:36, 21 March 2008 (EDT)

- Yeah, looks like it is. One thing I did notice, however, is that we need to line up the title boxes. In the featured article box, the title is, say 5 px from the edge of the box, but in the "Browse 118 Wiki" box, the title is say, 10 px from the edge of the box. --Wolf /talk page 04:45, 21 March 2008 (EDT)

Stars
I have been doing some reading... but am not sure what info I should try and add to the star listing under each system in the Trinity sector I have made... any suggestions? Canreb 21:56, 16 April 2008 (EDT)
Canreb 23:37, 16 April 2008 (EDT)
I deleted the star from the Template:
Gamma Taboa system | Star ·Belt I · I · Belt II |
, the star page had not been created yet... I think this is what we should do with the other systems within the Trinity Sector... the star info is recorded first on the main page for the star system... Canreb 01:18, 17 April 2008 (EDT)
- Having the star page separate IS important. It's a separate entity, just like each planet, whether inhabitable or not, is a separate entity. The star pages, unless something unusual happens to/with/because of the star, will be very short, yes. But the page should be there nonetheless.-Varaan 15:14, 17 April 2008 (EDT)

- I know, which is why I haven't run roughshod over anything for either of those "regions". I have, however, instigated it for my Par'tha stuff, since my template sits at the top instead of the side (see "template:Par'tha"). I'd like to snaz it up a bit though, as well, but for now it serves its purpose.-Varaan 11:14, 18 April 2008 (EDT)

Canreb 11:18, 27 April 2008 (EDT)
Checking the Star Trek Star Charts book the one from which the star maps have been copied for our use here at this wikki shows that both the Jenatris Cloud and Jenatris Corridor should be located 4 sectors directly east on the edge of Federation space... Also now that I was able to add a image of just the Trinity sector each system should have a brief 1 or 2 line description after a 1 line description of it's location on the Trinity Sector map... that way someone can scroll down and look at a system then scroll up to find it on the map... no need to flip back and forth between pages... Tiger deck layout
(i.e.- can't get to cargo bay 1 from cargo bay 4, without going down to deck 5 first.) Scrutinize this image for more clarity on the subject. --Wolf /talk page 20:07, 5 May 2008 (EDT)
- I mis-spoke slightly. --Wolf /talk page 22:17, 5 May 2008 (EDT)
Indy Registry
Thank you... on occasion I forget how many XXXXX are assigned/swapped out for additional letters. :P DCody 11:50, 6 May 2008 (EDT)
Indy Roster
Proof a second pair of eyes is useful. I had completely missed the # in the assigned sort order. DCody 11:05, 9 May 2008 (EDT)
- I may actually roll it back. As interesting as it is, editing purposes make this a bit more trouble than its worth. DCody 11:31, 9 May 2008 (EDT)
Tiger & Wallace Plaques

Ga'teran
OK... I finished the rewrite on the Ga'teran and their slave race... I also did both of their star systems... I only tweaked the Ga'teran homeworld... it looks like you were useing GURPS Space Builder to work out the details... was not sure how most of that info would fit into Star Trek so I left it for you... it was either that or I do a complete format change to make it look like what I have done in the Trinity Sector... was not sure if I should go that far... I hope that the Ga'teran and the Jeuws are acceptable...Canreb 14:44, 27 May 2008 (EDT)
Was vs Is
Sorry. A lot of my writing is in present tense, and a lot is in past tense, with no reason why. I think the past tense has come about because I view the wiki as being an archive of everything we've done, etc...and I envision someone in the future reading it as part of research - hence the past tense.-Varaan 08:17, 3 June 2008 (EDT)
- See the discussion page for Lonara Van.-Varaan 10:57, 3 June 2008 (EDT)
- I understand and agree. As I said, there isn't really rhyme nor reason for me switching back and forth. I will change the verb tense, because I know it will make you happy. ;) -Varaan 11:09, 3 June 2008 (EDT)
- Also, the planets in the Valcari system have indigenous names given to them, much like the Sol system, which is why even though they'd officially be Valcari I, Valcari II, etc, they also have the names given to them by the indigenous species of that system, the Valcarians (see Valcari III/Joma-I discussion page).-Varaan 11:05, 3 June 2008 (EDT)

Planetary Names
The way I've been doing it is this: if a planet has an indigenous sentient population, I'll name the planet page after whatever the people call it (ie. Earth as opposed to Sol III). Unlike our solar system, however, the other planets that DON'T have populations, will get named after their stellar positioning in the system (ie. Should be Sol I, not Mercury, Sol II, not Venus - though the naming would be mentioned/explained in the page write-up). Again...no real rule here, though maybe we want to make one and stick with it.-Varaan 11:15, 3 June 2008 (EDT)
- What? Giving up so easily? ;) Okay, how about we do it this way then:
- If there are people living on the planet, and they have given it a different name from what the stellar positioning would be, we title the page after the planet's "name." We still mention the stellar positioning in the description. We also make a redirect page from the stellar position name to the planet "name" page.
- If there are no people living on the planet, we title the page after the stellar positioning, and mention the name given to the planet (if there is one) in the description. We also make a redirect page from the planet "name" page to the stellar position name.
- Ex. Sol system - each planet would be Sol, I, Sol, II, etc with the names "Mercury", "Venus" etc mentioned in the description. "Sol III" however would only be a redirect page to "Earth".
- Question: What if people didn't live there, then did? ie. Sol IV becomes inhabited (people living on Mars). Should the page name still be Sol IV, or should it be "Mars"? -Varaan 11:33, 3 June 2008 (EDT)
