Cardassian, Klingon, Romulan, Standard Hobbies Reading, Whittling Appearance Tall and physically fit, with broad shoulders and chest, Lukin sports a square jaw with thin lips and rounded nose. It is his eyes that are particularly striking - clear, crystalline, almost silver grey - they miss little around them. Long fingers are dextrous and he moves with a calm assurance. Personality Lukin has always been a confident person, even as a child. When he struggles with something, he refuses to give in, trying over and over again until he succeeds. Failure is not an option. He can be snarky and cynical, but little known to anyone besides those who are truly close to him, he cares greatly for his people and - strangely enough - others. At least, those whom he considers at least friendly acquaintances. He is a Cardassian who, though at first was doubtful, wants to see the good relations with Starfleet continue, seeing it as ultimately beneficial for his people, and will do what he can to protect that relationship. History Before Starfleet Born on Cardassia Prime, Lukin was an only child to Jiran and Sorka Zorkal. From early on, he was a stubborn and willful child, hesitant to let others help him, confident in his own abilities. When he was old enough, he joined the Cardassian military, and has served his people faithfully, though he harboured a resentment of Dukat and seethed at the idea of allying with the Dominion. When the tides turn, he was one of the most enthusiastic to fight against the Founders. It wasn’t until after the war that he found out his parents and all of his extended family had been wiped out - leaving him the last of his line. After The Dominion War After the war, Lukin continued to serve faithfully, even as a Security Officer on Deep Space 10 as a part of a joint venture with Starfleet. Through the years, he has carefully navigating between the two groups, careful to show his dedication to his people, but unwilling to let go of the idea that Starfleet is good for Cardassia. It was there he met Lidia Ivanova. Immediately taking a liking to her, Lukin might have pursued more than a mere working relationship, but nothing ever came of it, and he was eventually called back to Cardassia Prime. Back in Cardassia, Lukin continued to serve his people in a variety of assignments, including some intelligence. Most recently, he has been awarded some time to spend for leisure and has elected to visit one of Starfleet's most well known starbases - Starbase 118 - though not before he got an in person report on the mission involving the Nimitz, which had claimed victims in Cardassian territory. During the Gratitude Festival on Ops, Lukin found himself under the influence of drinks that had been spiked with a substance which encouraged emotions, particularly romantic or loving ones. This spurred him to declare that he was Sheila Bailey's vainúvah, and she his vainúvahim. Not long after, Lukin was appointed as Cardassian Ambassador and made visits to the three Cardassians who had been pulled from the remnants of the USS Nimitz. A short time later, all three suddenly died within moments of each other. Afterward, Lukin was ordered by the Cardassian government to remain on Ops as official Ambassador. He soon met Trovek Arys, a woman who immediately caught his attention and interest. When she was subsequently transferred to Ops, he began to sought her out, then officially court her. During that time, he assisted her when she had to deal with family matters, including tracking down a half brother and niece, Geleth A. Zantett, she didn't know she had. When he discovered her brother and his wife had died, leaving her niece orphaned, he paved the to make sure that if she decided to adopt the child, she would have as little resistance as possible. As he suspected, Arys couldn't leave Geleth in an orphanage, and together, the two adopted her. As time went on, Arys began to suffer hallucinations, though she managed to hide them from Lukin. After being hospitalised, he went to visit her in the hospital, and though she was ill, she also accused him of being the source of many of her problems. Unwilling to take such unfair accusations, Lukin walked out. When he returned, Arys thought he was a hallucination until an orderly came in and told him visiting hours were over. Their relationship deteriorated from there. A few weeks after the dissolution of the engagement, Lukin was given full custody of Geleth and Cardassia ordered him to take a position on Denali Station. Connections Family All of Lukin’s family was killed during the Dominion War. He is the last of his line. Friends Trovek Arys, Medical Officer Arys and Lukin met while Arys was at Starbase 118 Ops in transition between her graduation and waiting for her official assignment. He overheard an argument between two Bajorans and the newly minted Starfleet Officer, and the two launched into a philosophical discussion. She impressed him. He kept tabs on her, and they began to write back and forth. After Arys was transferred to Ops, they began to spend time together, and the friendship turned into romance. Unfortunately, after Arys began to blame Lukin for her struggles, their engagement was called off and he was given full custody of their adopted daughter, Geleth. Lidia Ivanova, Security Officer Lukin met Lidia after he was posted to Deep Space Ten. He quickly grew to respect - and yes, even like - the woman. He contemplated pursuing a romantic relationship with her, but before he could, he was called back to Cardassia Prime. He still thinks of her fondly.
