After graduating from High School, he embarked on a humanitarian trip to the occupation's devastated Bajor with his classmates in 2369 under the Humanitarians without Borders NGO. There, he found his purpose and fell in love with contractor work and humanitarian crisis management. His profound commitment to providing aid led him to travel to numerous planets over the course of twenty one years, where he wholeheartedly devoted himself to supporting communities in their most trying times. Subsequently, during this time, he distance-studied and successfully attained a bachelor's degree in this field from Kingston University in London.
After graduating from High School, he embarked on a humanitarian trip to the occupation's devastated Bajor with his classmates in 2369 under the Humanitarians without Borders NGO. There, he found his purpose and fell in love with contractor work and humanitarian crisis management, in which later even attained a bachelor's degree. What he did not know then, it would take twenty years and his adoptive mother passing away for him to return back home. But Earth he returned to was not the planet he left.

As Ollie journeyed from one crisis to another, his bond with his family on Earth began to weaken. The time between calls home grew longer, conversation topics became more superficial, and Ollie started to feel increasingly disconnected from the world that was once his beloved home and family. It seemed like there was always a new crisis, another planet in desperate need of help, or something else keeping him from wanting to deal with the calls from home and the difficult topics they brought up - Is he dating anyone? When he return to Earth to visit? How about grandchildern?

The year was 2388, and Ollie found himself deeply involved in the Romulan crisis, working tirelessly to help resolve the humanitarian catastrophes resulting from the destruction of Romulus and the collapse of Romulan Star Empire institutions. It was during this intense and demanding period that he received the heartbreaking news of his mother's passing, which had been delayed by three weeks. The emotional impact hit him like a tidal wave. The Earth he returned to was not the planet he left.

Despite living through the horrors of the Federation-Klingon War and the devastating times of the Dominion War, despite experiencing all the suffering while helping others in their worst moments, he found himself ill-equipped to face the relentless march of time. While he seemed to defy aging, his adoptive parents grew old—and not just them.

Ollie realized that despite being in his thirties, he appeared to others as a barely grown teenager. Those around him—people who were his peers at school and co-workers in an NGO—had aged unrecognizably and embarked on family life. His father, once full of life and cheer, had entered the twilight of his years, struggling to recognize his own son and often forgetting recent occurrences while effortlessly recalling stories from fifty or more years ago.

Ollie dedicated himself to caring for his adoptive father, tending to his every need and eagerly soaking up the wisdom contained in the stories his father shared about life, his late wife and Ollie's adoptive mother, and the profound life lessons and guidance words that his father never shared with him years ago and which still lingered within him. Ollie felt the weight of the passing decades during which he had distanced himself from those who were truly his family and soon realized that he had been given so much growing up under the Poulter roof, but had so little time to make up for the lost time and return that love. As his father eventually joined his mother in peaceful slumber a two years later, Ollie was left to grapple with the task of making amends.

After being promoted to Petty Officer, he finally fulfilled his dream of being accepted into Starfleet Starbees, a semi-elite unit among Starfleet Operations field engineers that traces its origins back to the ancient times of United Earth and their Seabees. They were known for being the first to respond, the first on the ground, and the first to help. Their motto summed it all up - "''Construimus, Batuimus''".

This newfound attention was not entirely to his liking, especially as he did not know what the reason was.

Ensign Olliver Kimmi Bergmen is currently serving as Operations Officer aboard the USS Artemis-A.

Appearance

  • Height: 185cm (6' 1”)
  • Hair: Brown
  • Eyes: Brown
  • Build: Athletic / Slender

Personality

Ollie strives to be friendly and helpful to everyone, even if it comes at his own expense.
His performance evaluation from USS Braveheart's boatswain and XO to the Academy within the enlisted-to-officer commissioning program described him as "cheerful" and "easygoing" with "sharp insight into his team members' abilities", while noted his reserved and shy nature in non-work social situations, and suggested further development of his leadership skills due to his tendency to "overthink when making split-second decisions" in high contrast to his commendatory administrative abilities.

Background

Early life and education

Ollie's life began at Chelmsford & Essex Hospital on Earth, where his mother left him as a newborn. Paramedic Bergmen discovered him there, cocooned in a warm blanket and seemingly healthy, yet lying abandoned in front of the emergency room door. Initial tests showed that he was abandoned shortly after birth, and based on his genetic profile, his species was identified as Gideon.

The hospital staff named him Olliver because it was a namesake day name on May 8th, and shortly after his discovery, he was released into the Federation Foster Care system. A year later, as the time required to adopt a child passed, Ollie was adopted into the loving family of Robert and Nicol Poulter, a childless artist couple living between their home in Essex and a southern winter retreat in Eilat.

As Ollie grew up, he received private education from tutors and later attended boarding school. His academic performance was consistently above average, though not exceptional. This wasn't due to a lack of ability; psychological tests revealed Ollie to be quite intelligent. The reason was simpler: Ollie was often bored during his education and never felt the need to excel.

Growing up in a Federation family on a core world and in a position of privilege. Ollie never experienced want or scarcity. He didn't develop the mindset that he needed to achieve academically to secure his future. Instead, he lived contentedly in his own world, and not feeling the need felling the need to strive for top marks or stand out academically.

Ollie felt the weight of the passing decades during which he had distanced himself from those who were truly his family and soon realized that he had been given so much growing up under the Poulter roof, but had so little time to make up for the lost time and return that love. As his father eventually joined his mother in peaceful slumber a two years later, Ollie was left to follow his father's wishes and applied to Starfleet Academy, hoping to forge his own path in the universe. Unfortunately, the outcome did not align with his aspirations. Despite his fervent hopes, Ollie received a rejection letter from the Academy. The decision stemmed from his prior academic performance, which did not meet the required standard, and from his entrance test results falling short of the threshold set by the Academy.

After a few days, the recruiting officer reached out to Ollie and presented him with a different opportunity.

"Not everyone has to be an officer. In Starfleet, there is a place for everyone."

Intrigued by this alternative, Ollie agreed to a meeting at the recruiting center. During their discussion, Ollie found himself drawn to the idea and made the decision to enlist before the day was over.

Enlistment and career in Starfleet

Ollie enlisted in late 2390, and after completing basic training, he was assigned to Starfleet Operations as a garrison engineer aboard the USS Vancouver. Over the course of the following six years, Ollie embarked on voyages across the entire Alpha Quadrant, visiting numerous planets and engaging in tasks such as constructing new Starfleet installations, providing following humanitarian aid, and assisting planetary forces in their undertakings as part of the Vancouver mission. After being promoted to Petty Officer, he finally fulfilled his ambition of being accepted into Starfleet Starbees, a semi-elite unit among Starfleet Operations field engineers that traces its origins back to the ancient times of United Earth and their Seabees. They were known for being the first to respond, the first on the ground, and the first to help. Their motto summed it all up - "Construimus, Batuimus".

Over the next two years, Ollie was in his prime, wholeheartedly seizing the chance to pursue his long-held aspirations. His field performance propelled him swiftly to the role of team leader while drawing the unit's command spotlight to his person. This newfound attention was not entirely to his liking, especially as he did not know what the reason was.

But that soon changed.

Ollie's long-gone and forgotten aspiration of becoming an officer was unexpectedly rekindled when the unit's commanding officer summoned him to his office and informed him that he had been nominated for promotion to officer status through the enlisted-to-officer commissioning program. The only thing standing in the way of Ollie's advancement was his willingness to say "yes".

And he did. Following two years of his life, Ollie dedicated himself to learning the ropes at Starfleet Academy, gaining a deep understanding of what it truly entailed to be an officer. He graduated at the lower end of the first quarter of his class.
